To not care what colour my passport is?

Apparently one of the great things about Brexit is we'll be getting blue passports back (personally don't remember blue passports but whatever). AIBU to really not give a shit? Quote from the article:

Conservative MP Andrew Rosindell, chairman of the Flags and Heraldry Committee, told the paper: “It’s a matter of identity. Having the pink European passports has been a source of humiliation. It merged us into one European identity, which isn’t what we are

Humiliating? Really? ^

The pretty patterned pages are a security measure to prevent fake passports... jesus wept. Hmm Do some people live in caves?

honeylulu · 02/04/2017 12:29

Were they blue? I remember the old ones being black. Or were they blue before black?

Megatherium · 02/04/2017 12:30

Definitely always navy blue.

Megatherium · 02/04/2017 12:32

sobeyond, I assume the UK passports only queues would be at UK airports?

I must say, I'm looking forward to the outrage of leavers forced to join the endless non EU queues in EU countries.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 12:34

Blue

I still have mine

HardcoreLadyType · 02/04/2017 12:34

SoupDragon · 02/04/2017 12:35

They are very very dark blue, almost black. If you saw it by itself and not against a black background you would probably think it was black.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2017 12:37

If not why do you imagine that we are going to have UK passports only queue?

Perhaps the fact that there is already a "EU only" queue? When we are not in the EU, this will become irrelevant (unless they retain free movement)

LorraLorraLlama · 02/04/2017 12:41

Wont they just phase out the EU passports as they expire rather thsn say from x dsyer 2019 everyone must deluge our now already stretched fewer uk passport offices with a nations worth of applucations gor renewals?

Cant recall the blue passports but do remember the visitors passports as a kid.

Perhaps we could have designer passports at an extra cost for those so inclined. British designers only mindWink

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 02/04/2017 12:43

Hardcore that can't be right, I don't see pink listed as an acceptable colour for passports. Grin

But it could be, erm, blue.

HardcoreLadyType · 02/04/2017 12:44

New passports should be a different colour once we have left the EU, as it will make it easier to have a UK passport only queue at airports assuming that we have them.

I'm not British, and I have a blue passport. There's about 190 countries in the world. Some doubling up is inevitable.

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 02/04/2017 12:44

I don't see how our politicians can guarantee that we can carry on using our EU passports until they expire? Surely the EU will have something to say about us retaining the right to travel as EU citizens after Brexit?

HardcoreLadyType · 02/04/2017 12:46

Blue, you say, Metal? Nah. No one would go for that. They certainly wouldn't vote to leave the worlds biggest trading bloc, and most successful peace project for such a silly reason, would they? Would they?

Orlantina · 02/04/2017 12:46

£500 million.

That's nothing when we convert back to feet, inches, pounds and stones.....

You'd think some people want the good old days of the Empire back.

RortyCrankle · 02/04/2017 12:47

The current contract expires in 2019, the year the UK is set to leave the EU and the passport is routinely redesigned every five years to guard against counterfeiting apparently so it's no big deal.

Universitychallenging · 02/04/2017 12:48

It's burgundy not pink Confused

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 02/04/2017 12:52

Is that £500 million in pre-decimalisation pounds?

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 02/04/2017 12:52

Is he trying to say that having an EU passport is humiliating? Or is it humiliating because it's pink?

Also, shouldn't someone who is chairman of the Flags and Heraldry Committee be able to tell the difference between burgandy and pink?

SingingSilver · 02/04/2017 12:52

Great! Our country may sink into financial ruin and obscurity, but who gives a shit? The passports we won't be able to afford to use will be navy blue once more!!

ShowMePotatoSalad · 02/04/2017 12:54

That sounds £500m that could have been used on the NHS but is instead being used in a vanity project.

How marvellous.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 02/04/2017 12:55

Forgot the Hmm at the end of my message there!

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 02/04/2017 12:57

There's no need to worry about the NHS Potato - we're going to have an extra £350 million a day to fund it!

I mean, that has to be true. They wrote it on a bus and everything.

Orlantina · 02/04/2017 12:58

We can't spend money on schools but we can discuss passport colours.

sonlypuppyfat · 02/04/2017 12:58

I can remember my dad's old passport being a nice chunky blue

EweAreHere · 02/04/2017 12:59

It will royally suck if you have to go through the longer, slower immigration lines and pay to visit each country through visas. And plan months in advance to do so.. And have to buy better travel health insurance for Europe ...

It will just royally suck.
