Favourite Sandwich/Baguette fillings?

This is a random one but wondered what your favourite filling is? Hoping to see something pregnancy craving odd Grin

I got the bits to make a sandwich, but left half to share so others could taste the best sandwich in the world. Well to me anyway, will have to wait for further votes.

It started off with M&S in house granary bread, smallish loaf, apply mayo instead of butter, half an onion (that's always precut in a tub) apple smoked Wiltshire ham, bit more mayo, then peppery salad leaves.

You could add mustard if you're a fan, the mayo did it for me. Was going to leave 3/4 of it so everyone had their fair share. DD will pick out the onion, or DH will for her.

To buy it I think you'd be looking at £2/3 in an artisan food shop.

Loaf £0.99
Red Onions £0.80 a big bag
Peppery Leaves £1.50
Ham £2.00
Mayo £0.79

All from M&S, will do about 6 lunches if not more. Plus I got a cucumber for £0.50. There's loads of leaves left, we get our red onions from day Sainsbury's they're always on their way to onion heaven, but these were perfect & a big bag. £6 including cucumber, so £1 a lunch with left overs.

I know for most men bacon is a must. Something in male DNA unless practising Jewish or Muslim or Veggie.

Bliss.

Flamin' hot monster munch and dairy Lee on white. With butter. Sorry! You did ask....

Tippytappytoes · 02/04/2017 13:11

Some of my favourite fillings;

Crunchy peanut butter and mature cheddar

Egg mayo, cress and salt and vinegar crisps

Fried eggs!

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/04/2017 13:12

I love sandwich threads!

Cheddar cheese and coleslaw

Brie, tomato and basil in a baguette

Cheddar, cucumber and Nando's perinaise

Cream cheese and garlicky mushrooms

Falafel, grated carrot and cheddar

Fried egg (with runny yolk) sandwiched between two bits of fried bread Grin

I'm not that adventurous really. I'm not sure anything beats a decent cheddar.

PutThatPomBearBack · 02/04/2017 13:53

Stilton and broccoli panini🙌🏻

Doodlebug5 · 02/04/2017 14:18

Very obsessed with

Baguette
Medium sliced beef
Rocket
Hot horseradish

RainbowChasing · 02/04/2017 15:02

I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant and since 5 weeks pregnant I have had an obsession with ham, cheddar, rocket and cheesy coleslaw sandwiches. I've eaten it nearly every day. When not pregnant I'm not fussed about sandwiches, I rarely eat ham and I don't like cheese.

Footle · 02/04/2017 15:14

Hummus and sliced dill pickles (cucumber) on sourdough.

FairytalesAreBullshit · 02/04/2017 15:22

Ooh they've got black olives in a jar from M&S near the olives section for £0.99 which is amazing value for what you get. Even the small selection in a tub had stones in, I can't recall if these do.

If I had a subway it would be chicken, lettuce, cucumber, onion, cheese & ketchup, melted in the oveny thing. Ooh on a herby roll, but not fussy about which roll.

I've always been a fan of ham salad since I was little, but I don't like tomatoes in sandwiches/baguettes, I'm funny about wanting the mayo/salad cream on my bread to protect it from going soggy.

These are the olives that were £0.99

My brother used to love cheese & tomato ketchup sandwiches. I was a marmite fan. If my Nan was treating me it would always be ham salad.

But I'm really funny about ham, I think it's from the cheap ham my parents bought for us. So if I'm going to have ham I check the packets to make sure it looks ok and isn't going dark in colour. Always preferred smoked or honey roast.

We have a sandwich thing, so a quick snack is a soft baguette usually on offer at the end of the day, with cheese & Branston pickle in.

My favourite from when I used to grab lunch at work, was a mix of chicken, mayo, red onion, green & red cubed peppers. I think they cooked actual chickens then flaked the meat, so it was soft and fresh.

Saucisson (or any other spicy salami type) cheese, butter with tomato, raw spinach and red onion.

Derlei · 02/04/2017 15:42

It's got to be

  • Soft white medium bread, mayo instead of margerine
  • 4 fishfingers
  • grated cheese (must be on top of the fishfingers and whilst they are hot so that the cheese can start to melt)
  • layer of rocket or other leafy salad
  • thin squirt of ketchup
  • cut in half

Heaven

TillyTheTiger · 02/04/2017 15:42

Ham, double gloucester cheese and mango chutney on a sunflower seed roll. Or sausage, bacon and brown sauce on buttered soft white roll. Now I'm starving...

AmserGwin · 02/04/2017 15:45

We make mustard mayo where I work which is half mayo/half American mustard, to go on sour dough toasties - yum

HarrietSchulenberg · 02/04/2017 15:47

The best summer sandwich is fresh, very ripe tomatoes, sliced thickly and layered on wholemeal bread spread with cream cheese. Salt and black pepper and a handful of torn basil leaves too. With plain crisps.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 02/04/2017 16:51

Simplicity is key, perfectly ripe, sliced, beef tomatoes, drizzled with balsamic vinegar, with plenty of freshly ground black pepper and coarse rock salt. All in a fresh granary baguette.

Although as a student the little baguette place round the corner used to do a mean coronation chicken baguette with lettuce and mango chutney.

melonribena · 02/04/2017 17:03

Soft white cob, buttered, egg mayo and chunks of gammon

TowerRose · 02/04/2017 17:27

Boiled ham and smoked beetroot is gorgeous!

Mysteriouscurle · 02/04/2017 17:55

Watching this thread with interest as my packed lunches for work are VERY boring. I do like brie and cranberry with salad leaves and tomato on a baguette though

BaffledMummy · 02/04/2017 18:03

derlei that sounds delicious. Off to make it now!

pollypomegranate · 02/04/2017 18:07

Baguette with Philadelphia and salt and vinegar Walkers crisps. Total heaven! Makes my mouth water thinking about it!

hollie11 · 02/04/2017 18:22

Toasted white bread with butter, marmite and 2/3rds of a packet of salt and vinegar squares..... Remaining 1/3rd of packet of crisps to be eaten for afters!
Or egg mayonnaise and cold (cooked then left to go cold) bacon sandwich.
Or left over roast dinner sandwich Grin

nokidshere · 02/04/2017 18:36

For everyday I like salmon spread on thick white bread! Or cheddar with crisps and salad.

But heaven for me would be hot salt beef on rye bread with mustard - it's years since I had one but when I lived in London they were a very regular occurrence and I would pay handsomely for one right now!

Pallisers · 02/04/2017 19:02

I LOVE these threads.

My faves are classic blt on toasted white granary bread with good mayo, no butter and really nice bacon/toms etc.

Love tuna on a soft white roll with apple and cucumber

Add taytos to these and perfection!

Loved my late mum's egg salad sandwiches. Can't eat them unless they are hers :(

I also do a great grilled cheese using Delia's recipe - it is lovely.

going to try the lamb and mint sauce one upthread.

casualobserver · 02/04/2017 19:25

Crusty white baguette, lots of freshly cooked salmon (either warm or cold), plenty of mayo and rocket. Yum

Elledouble · 02/04/2017 19:45

Goat's cheese, tomato and salad on herby bread - I had one from a railway station in Germany (where they have actual bakeries with nice sandwiches at all their stations, apparently!) and it was delicious.

Runny fried egg on a white roll with lots of butter

The M&S egg, tomato and salad cream one is pretty tasty too (improved still further by the addition of salt and vinegar crisps).
