Favourite Sandwich/Baguette fillings?

FairytalesAreBullshit · 02/04/2017 03:24

This is a random one but wondered what your favourite filling is? Hoping to see something pregnancy craving odd Grin

I got the bits to make a sandwich, but left half to share so others could taste the best sandwich in the world. Well to me anyway, will have to wait for further votes.

It started off with M&S in house granary bread, smallish loaf, apply mayo instead of butter, half an onion (that's always precut in a tub) apple smoked Wiltshire ham, bit more mayo, then peppery salad leaves.

You could add mustard if you're a fan, the mayo did it for me. Was going to leave 3/4 of it so everyone had their fair share. DD will pick out the onion, or DH will for her.

To buy it I think you'd be looking at £2/3 in an artisan food shop.

Loaf £0.99
Red Onions £0.80 a big bag
Peppery Leaves £1.50
Ham £2.00
Mayo £0.79

All from M&S, will do about 6 lunches if not more. Plus I got a cucumber for £0.50. There's loads of leaves left, we get our red onions from day Sainsbury's they're always on their way to onion heaven, but these were perfect & a big bag. £6 including cucumber, so £1 a lunch with left overs.

I know for most men bacon is a must. Something in male DNA unless practising Jewish or Muslim or Veggie.

Bliss.

Lamb with mint sauce in a crisp baguette.

Or jamon with olive oil in a boccadillo.

Also thickly sliced cheddar cheese with sliced tomatoes and black pepper mayo.

BLT on thick granny bread.

Chicken bacon club sandwich on toasted white bloomer.

Soft boiled egg and loads of butter, again on white toast.

Roast beef with prawn cocktail on a poppy seed bagel.

Prawn mayo on oatmeal bread.

Freshly roast chicken in a still warm crusty roll.

Roll n scone in Glasgow.

Scampi, bacon, salad, thousand island dressing on a hoagie in the Toon.

Bacon and Brie croissant. With red onion marmalade.

Chicken, salad cream and peanuts in the late 1970s.

Roll n pie in Paisley.'

I could do this for a while.

Coarse pate, salted butter and cornichons between two hot toasted crumpets.

Fried chocolate sandwich made with square cut cornbread and olive oil chocolate in Madrid.

Thin sliced rare steak with crispy black pudding and butter on squashy white loaf.

Blue cheese, apple, walnut and passion fruit just outside Barcelona.

Sausage sandwich on toasted plain loaf, with sliced onions and ketchup, made by my mum.

Tandoori king prawn jalfrezi and butter chicken between leftover paratha.

Felafel, avocado, honey and basil on a granary roll.

Ahh.

Really wish I hadn't read that awesome list at 4.30am Sad

ColouringMandalas · 02/04/2017 07:49

Bacon sarnie made with two potato waffles instead of bread. (Waffles also really good with Xmas dinner leftovers as filling).

ShowMePotatoSalad · 02/04/2017 07:58

I am a bit obsessed with the following:

Toasted ciabatta or bagel
Mayonnaise
Lettuce
Tomatoes (seasoned with pepper, and garlic salt)
A little bit of finely chopped raw onion
Ham
Finely grated cheese

Bloody heavenly

I have also always been a fan of prawn marie rose sandwiches, on brown bread, cut in to triangles. Grin

PatMullins · 02/04/2017 08:02

ColouringMandalas I am salivating at that list! Shock

RitaMills · 02/04/2017 08:03

I love chicken mayo and cheese in a crispy baguette, my favourite shop bought is Pret chicken ceasar and bacon, I could eat those all day every day.

I love tuna and rocket or Ayrshire ham with branston, Mayo and lettuce on a sandwich with a side of salted Kettle crisps.

Egg mayo on a soft sub roll.

Chicken breast goujons, mayo and salad in a bagel or wrap.

BlueChairs · 02/04/2017 12:41

I'm a weirdo ... in Subway my go to is double American cheese toasted on hearty Italian bread and covered in black olives, gherkins, jalapeños and mayo. It's amazing and I don't know why.

BlueChairs · 02/04/2017 12:41

Or Vietnamese bahn mi ( insanely good and about 60p a unit in vietnam :( )

roses2 · 02/04/2017 12:42

Wafer thin honey roast ham, lots of butter and ready salted Tyrells crisps. Yum!

MundayCakes85 · 02/04/2017 12:44

Ham, lettuce, mayo and salted crisps sarnie. Mmmm

roses2 · 02/04/2017 12:45

Artisan sandwiches round here cost around £6!

LockedOutOfMN · 02/04/2017 12:46

Tuna with red onions on wholemeal bread or in a bagel.

Smoked salmon, cucumber, capers and cream cheese that's not Philadelphia on wholemeal bread or a bagel.

Egg mayo with cress, on sliced wholemeal bread. Touch of cracked black pepper.

Prawn Marie rose on sliced wholemeal, must have crisps on the side.

LockedOutOfMN · 02/04/2017 12:47

Oh and the latest sandwich crush is Boots chicken and stuffing. Comes on malted granary bread with a touch of mayo. Live abroad so get to eat one (or two Blush ) every six months or so at the airport.

WorraLiberty · 02/04/2017 12:47

Egg and bacon

Liversausage, lettuce and onion.

Ham salad with mayo and onion.

Truckingalong · 02/04/2017 12:48

Brie and cranberry on a white baguette.

RochelleGoyle · 02/04/2017 12:48

Blue that sounds gooooooood...

Ladyvird135 · 02/04/2017 12:51

Fried egg and a very generous amount of crispy bacon on a hot buttered baguette. No veg involved. Mmmmm

MistyMinge · 02/04/2017 12:53

Mature cheddar with nice vine ripened tomato seasoned with salt and pepper on granary

Corned beef, English mayo and tomato

Cheese, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion and salad cream

A good coronation chicken in a crusty baguette

I could go on and on

Grilledaubergines · 02/04/2017 12:53

I love a fancy sandwich but in all honestly the best for me are

Extra strong cheddar with branston on white tiger bread

Extra strong cheddar and onion

Extra strong cheddar, sliced raw mushrooms, mayo

M&S egg and tomato (made with salad cream.

MistyMinge · 02/04/2017 12:53

English mustard not mayo!

Grilledaubergines · 02/04/2017 12:55

For extra strong cheddar, it's got up to be a 5 strength or upwards. Cornish cruncher with salt crystals is a winner.

LockedOutOfMN · 02/04/2017 12:58

Grilled aubergines Are they salt crystals or calcium?

Singyourheartout · 02/04/2017 13:01

Mmmmmm subway! Hearty Italian bread toasted with cheese (pepper jack for a kick)
Beef or turkey, ham and bacon.
Lettuce
Extra gerkins! I mean loads!!!!
Ranch dressing! Gallons of it!
Or
Roasted belly pork. Homemade tangy coleslaw. Melted goats cheese!!!! It's amazing!
Or
Roasted veg, peppers, onion carrot strips, Dutch cheese mayo(melted emmental and other things it's amazing) in a wrap.
Or
Chicken tiki filling mixed with homemade tangy coleslaw. With all the mayonnaisey goodness!!! Salad in a bap.
Or
A bap with roast parsnips, roast pork, apple and sage stuffing and salad and a sause of your choice garlic mayo

Grilledaubergines · 02/04/2017 13:01

locked erm I assumed salt crystals? Could be wrong. Possibly am. I just assumed they were lovely lumpy salt crystals. So delicious though.

Ginkypig · 02/04/2017 13:04

It's a little lot trashy but Dp introduced me to crisps and coleslaw sandwiches on Friday night Blush

Really nice seeded bread, a layer or coleslaw then a whole packet of crisps, any flavour (we happened to still have golden wonder haggis flavour in the cupboard)

It's was really really nice! When he suggested it I sort of looked at him with an unconvinced expression.
