Just been browsing the topshop website... AIBU and maybe getting old to think that these clothes are really ugly?

I actually love those jeans, Sparklingbrook! Blushwhere are they from??

Itisnoteasybeingdifferent · 02/04/2017 08:36

I can't stand the latest fashion for big exposed zips... esepcially the gold ones on the back of a very pretty of elegent dress..

It may have been some fashionistas idea of a bold statement on the catwalk... .it has become a way to cheapen manufacturing costs.

I am partial to Topshop but these are breathtaking and not in a good way

"I actually love those jeans, Sparklingbrook!"

Me too-I've got something similar.

RebelandaStunner · 02/04/2017 08:56

Eek! I hope there's some good stuff. I'm due a shopping trip soon. I hate ruffles, gingham, crap denim, bright colours, high waists....
I'm quite liking the metallics got a fab pair of jeans a couple of months ago which I've worn loads.

Huldra · 02/04/2017 09:02

I went shopping yesterday and couldn't find anything.

I am tempted by the fluffy sliders Grin in the summer I often wear sliders around the house and going into the garden. We have hard flooring and large sliding doors to the patio, fluffy sliders would do the job.

I had a trip to town to look for some stuff for spring. All my usual places were full of 80's re-hash crap. I have photos wearing jeans and crop tops taken in the actual 80's. They were grim them and they're still grim now. The Mom jean, off the shoulder, crop tops, nnasty neon colours are vile. Places where I usually manage to get a few bits, like Mango, Zara, Topshop I found nothing. For the first time in years I ventured into Fat Face and actually came out with a flattering pair of chinos and a shirt. These are weird times what with furry slippers and frumpy oddly cut jeans and mad sleeves.

chemenger · 02/04/2017 09:15

Looking for work clothes I went in to Laura Ashley with student dd. It was like entering a portal into 1978. Ruffles, bows, puffy sleeves. She loved it but I had worn it all first time round and to me it looks unbelievably dated. There was a dress with what I can only describe as bell bottomed sleeves in a shiny green floral fabric that was identical to one my mum wore to dinner dances in the '70s, quite a nostalgic moment actually.

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2017 09:22

The hideous jeans are from Next Leicester.

thetemptationofchocolate · 02/04/2017 09:40

Sparklingbrook's jeans on page 1 reminded me of the Bay City Rollers

It's the footwear that ruins all these looks,. It's exactly the sort of footwear not to wear with those outfits. And don't even get me started in socks and heels

Isn't it really nice when you're old enough to feel able to judge something as hideous and wear something you really like? I felt a bit sad in my 20s when I rejected horrible fashions but in my 30s I'm just relieved I don't feel the pressure.

noeffingidea · 02/04/2017 09:50

You're not wrong, Chocolate. I was a teenager in the 70's and I thought most of these things were crap then. I especially hated the full sleeves.Luckily we still had the option of buying plain t-shirts, ordinary jeans and simple A - line skirts.
Yeah I feel some of the designers are taking the piss somewhat. If even the models look 'plain' in the clothes then what is the average customer going to look like in them?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 02/04/2017 09:50

Ledkr would you have put her in proper slippers?

Dillite2 · 02/04/2017 10:06

I swear fashion world is trolling us all. They are the ones that are laughing all the way to the bank.

Destinysdaughter · 02/04/2017 10:15

Bloody loving this thread, it's given me a right old laugh! I'm Shock at the hideousness of some of these clothes, they were bad enough the first time round

Wordsalad · 02/04/2017 10:16

The cropped wide leg jeans are great if they also have a long version (vs a petite version) as they are just the right length that you can then wear them with absolutely flat trainers/plimsolls for summer and they dont trail along dusty pavements or through puddles. I have too many bad memories of long flares and wrap around skirts wicking mucky water up from puddles until soaking wet up to the knee and soaking right through my shoes. (The very short wide ones are however perhaps a bit bay city rollery)

DevelopingDetritus · 02/04/2017 10:17

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2017 10:21

This outfit seems to incorporate lots of awful in one go.

Destinysdaughter · 02/04/2017 10:35

Hahaha.I'd laugh my head off if I saw someone walking down the street in that!

boolifooli · 02/04/2017 10:52

So much nope. And why do the models have to pull such ridiculous faces and poses?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 02/04/2017 10:56

I quite like a cold shoulder but fluffy feet? No thanks Hmm Also seeing a lot of pom poms everywhere. I'm not 5 yo fgs.

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2017 10:58

YY pom poms are very in.

From a practical point of view I don't think the cold shoulder jacket serves it's purpose very well.
