To lock her on the balcony? With a bag of haribo?

DH has an old uni friend visiting. She runs a juice bar in the city she lives in and is a self-styled "detox queen". DH joked before she arrived that we should wallpaper our flat with printouts of Jay Rayner's column debunking the whole detox industry. So I was expecting a certain degree of guff to flow from her mouth, but DEAR GOD.

  1. "oh my god, I'm so sleepy after that lunch, it's all the sugar." It's hummus, falafel and chopped salad, love, calm down.
  2. How can you feed your child liver, it causes cancer?!
  3. Cold water is bad for you, it causes fatty deposits in your liver and damages your spine!
  4. Your children are in disposable nappies? Why didn't you make your own? Don't you know how easy it is?
  5. Consuming dairy when breastfeeding will ensure your DC get cancer.

All these gems in just under 90 minutes. But at least she brought me a gift to say congratulations on your new baby! Weight loss tea! Hmm

DH has been brilliant, openly laughing at some of the nonsense, challenging all the little digs at my parenting (none of these helpful tips have been directed at him, naturally). But she's pushing my hospitality to its fragile limit.

So yeah, not at all unreasonable to tell her there's a great view from the balcony and lock her out there, right?

Poo into a tupperware container and then ask her opinion on it

I am just baffled as to how the human race has survived all these millenia if cold water causes spine and liver problems?

Surely we'd have died out within minutes?

What cancer does liver cause?

Gingernaut · 04/04/2017 22:55

That statement is bizarre, Aimeeandbaby1

Even the Dr Mercola website (utter quack. Total pseudoscience) praises the health benefits of eating liver.

LIVESTRONG's only warning is "While moderate consumption of liver can be beneficial owing to its nutrient profile, excessive consumption can be harmful due to its cholesterol content. Doctors advise pregnant women to avoid liver and liver products because a high vitamin A intake can harm the unborn baby. Liver and offal are also high in purines, which can aggravate gout and kidney stones. If you have exotic tastes, eating polar bear liver can cause very high levels of vitamin A, which leads to dizziness, nausea, headaches, joint pain and, in severe cases, death."

Cancer Research reckon there's no problem with milk or dairy products in moderation.

Although scientists are working on the theory that a plant based diet is better for you overall, the cancer update telling you to avoid milk as it definitely causes cancer from John Hopkin's is a hoax.

this might be my new fave thread (nothing useful to add sorry)

Vimto :o :o :o

Xavier Mertz died from eating too much dog liver. Polar besr liver tends to kill you with trichinosis before the vitamin A kills you (viz. Salomon Andree). However - neither of them died of cancer... she sounds like a twit

Missing the point of the thread entirely (perhaps because I am lightheaded with hunger), giving up processed food entirely does actually make you feel bloody amazing. I think Gwyneth is an idiot btw, only gave everything up as am on an allergy exclusion diet for DS.

as you were...
