To not get the white car craze?

Everyone I know who has purchased a new car in recent years has chosen white, every other car on the road seems to be white!
Fashions come & go and each to their own I know but when you buy a new car you are shown a chart full of of amazing beautiful colours, why would anyone choose boring old white? They remind me of works vehicles/vans/salesmen cars!
And sorry but nothing (imo) looks as WAG-like as a white BMW/Mercedes/Range Rover!!

Oddly, I find black shows city-type dirt more than white.

BarbaraofSeville · 31/03/2017 16:11

Black cars never look clean and there are too many of them now so harder to find in car parks.

When I change my car later this year I know what model I'm getting and it's going to be bright blue. Both issues solved compared to my current black one.

Tinnie88 · 31/03/2017 16:21

I have a white car and I love it. It doesn't show the dirt as much as you'd think. I personally don't like coloured cars. Would only ever have white black or a dark grey.

Although certain colours do suit certain cars. Like the pastel fiats, cream minis or the bright blue a class Mercedes.

I also love ready salted crisps 😂

happypoobum · 31/03/2017 16:22

A year or so ago everyone had white cars but now, in my area (southeast) everyone buying new cars is getting blue.

White is so last year darling!!

shovetheholly · 31/03/2017 16:31

My car is bright green! There are a growing number of them around too.

9GreenBottles · 31/03/2017 16:41

White cars make me think of the 80's and now I just think they are a fashion waiting to die out again.

I do agree that different cars suit different colours though (but whilst white might suit some cars, I wouldn't have one for love nor money).

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 31/03/2017 16:45

I miss the variety of colours from the 90s, greens, purples, golds, as well as the more usual reds, blues, whites and blacks. My dad got to choose what he liked on his company car and there was an extensive colour chart. We went for a lovely metallic red wine type colour.

White is boring. Less boring than black which is ultra boring, hard to see and permanently filthy. I have owned two slightly boring silver cars in the default colour for their model as I got them second hand. As much as I love my current car, it's a popular model and it's hard to find in a car park... or at least it was until I lost a couple of hubcaps giving it a much more distinctive look Grin

mrssmith79 · 31/03/2017 16:52

Mines white, and it's an Audi Grin

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 31/03/2017 16:58

My white cars have looked much less grubby generally than my current black one.

I think cars should only be black, white or grey.

ASDismynormality · 31/03/2017 16:59

I was talking about this with my DDs and one of their friends today. We all agreed that we really don't like white cars, any other colour is fine just not white!

ASDismynormality · 31/03/2017 17:00

Even though I don't like white cars parking next to them in dimly lit car parks in much easier than parking n xt to a dark or silver car.

Snugglepalace · 31/03/2017 17:04

I do get the visibility thing though, many times I've almost pulled out in front of grey/green/bluey coloured cars because they've blended into the background Shock

White is such a fashionable colour for Range Rovers that some dealers buy up used cars in 'country' colours (eg dark green, grey) and re-spray them refrigerator white. They then add a blingy body kit and sell the car at a profit to townie Essex types.

Auit · 31/03/2017 19:05

White cars are the cheapest when leasing, as others have said, hence the number of them on the road.

I have Metallic black but I actually own the car.

foxyloxy78 · 31/03/2017 19:09

It is a cheap colour

PossumInAPearTree · 31/03/2017 19:12

I know someone who's husband got her a white Range Rover as a surprise present. She wasn't happy and made him take it back and exchange it for a black one as she wasn't going to be seen in a "hairdressers car".

TwatteryFlowers · 31/03/2017 19:17

Ours is bright red. We chose that because we didn't want to pay extra for a different colour. The thing is, there are hundreds of bright red hatchbacks and finding it in the car park is going to be a nightmare if you're as forgetful as I am!

I agree though op, I don't much like white but I prefer that to those matte black cars that make me want to draw all over them with chalk!

Asmoto · 31/03/2017 19:21

We bought a new car last year, of the budget variety where practically everything was an 'extra' - any colour or finish other than white was at an additional cost. I ask nothing of a car other than that it functions, so the colour is immaterial - if 'standard' colour had been lime green with purple stripes, I'd have taken it Grin.

emilybrontescorset · 31/03/2017 19:36

My car is white.
I didn't particularly want white but it was the make and model i wanted and i got a good deal.
It looks amazing when I've washed it.

I don't like the new brown or grey colours.

Interestingly, if you buy a new house you have to pay extra for white paint rather than magnolia.

FunkinEll · 31/03/2017 19:39

White is the cheapest colour for VW, you have to pay for any other colours. Maybe It's the same for other manufacturers and people don't want to pay more?!

MaximaDeWit · 31/03/2017 19:42

I don't get the trend either, but I think they're less naff now and more chavvy. DH says it's not the same white it used to be - it's a better paint and depth of colour (or something) so it's much nicer. I think it's faddy but if someone likes it and they can afford to choose then good for them!

FunkinEll · 31/03/2017 19:43

Also, I find you get different colours in different places. For example at the gym/ golf course you only get black/ grey/ navy/ silver cars. In the general population here you'd get more of a mix but very rarely more than red/ bright blue.

user1486076969 · 31/03/2017 19:44

White is the default colour i.e 'included in the price', you pay extra for any other colour. SimplesGrin

Derlei · 31/03/2017 19:46

I read an article that said white cars retain their value to a greater extent than other colours (well as much as a car can retain its value anyway)

OddBoots · 31/03/2017 19:49

I couldn't give a stuff about fashion but I like white as a car colour as it is easier to notice - much better than the generally road coloured silver/grey.
