To not get the white car craze?

Everyone I know who has purchased a new car in recent years has chosen white, every other car on the road seems to be white!
Fashions come & go and each to their own I know but when you buy a new car you are shown a chart full of of amazing beautiful colours, why would anyone choose boring old white? They remind me of works vehicles/vans/salesmen cars!
And sorry but nothing (imo) looks as WAG-like as a white BMW/Mercedes/Range Rover!!

And yeah why would you want a car that's more associated with vans, or police cars and ambulances?!
Ironically white became so unpopular at one point that even the Police were buying in "resale silver"
I don't care about the van association as I'm not a daft snob.

RaeSkywalker · 31/03/2017 13:43

^ that should be "care less" not "car either" 😂😂😂

HateSummer · 31/03/2017 13:43

I remember when it was cool to have a red car in the 80's. Before that it was a horrible beige colour in the 70's. I hate the colour white for a car.

Katedotness1963 · 31/03/2017 13:44

Years ago someone, who owned a white car, told me that better off people bought white cars because they could afford to take them to the case wash more often!

NotMeNoNo · 31/03/2017 13:46

It's just a phase. Everything was silver until a few years ago. I used to have a 1986 white Mk2 Golf. I loved that car! Next car may very well be white just from nostalgia.

Slabsofmeat · 31/03/2017 13:46

I shouted at a woman in a white Range Rover and made her cry Blush

Had a white escort (back in '92, showing my age now) hated it, felt like I was in a police car, vowed never to have one again.
I have a red Mini (she does have a white roof and wheels though eek!)

I bought a brand new car in 2012 in white and it wasn't a free colour - exactly the same price as all the other colours!

I have another car now, still white.

I don't like coloured cars, I would only ever buy white, black or grey - that's my own personal preference Smile

Snugglepalace · 31/03/2017 13:48

And perhaps there are more white cars in my area because I live in Essex!!

Loads of white cars on the school run. Lots of white super cars ie brand new audis and mercs. I just assumed they were cheaper!

RebootYourEngine · 31/03/2017 13:50

I have just bought a car. A lot of places have white as standard and to get any other colour it could be as much a £500 extra for any other colour.

When dealers/car companies stop this then thete would be more of a variety of colours around.

Fluffy40 · 31/03/2017 13:53

Our white car always looks dirty , won't have white again.

Secretariat · 31/03/2017 13:54

I've never owned a white car, though I did test drive a white audi A3 once. Didn't like it.

All may cars have been blue or black. Current one is a big black merc 4x4, wide wheels, limo tint...my tonker toy. People laugh at me, I'm no WAG or gangster Grin but I love it.

Fluffy40 · 31/03/2017 13:54

Another Essex resident!

EpoxyResin · 31/03/2017 13:54

Brand new company cars are often free in black, white and maybe some sort of silver and virtually no-one pays extra to upgrade their company car. I'm lucky to have a fancy "racing green" one these days, but I don't get half as many looks as I did in the white ones; sometimes I miss the white!

HopefullyAnonymous · 31/03/2017 13:54

I love the burnt orange BMW colour, due to trade in my navy 1 series in a few months and this was the colour I wanted 😂

LtGreggs · 31/03/2017 14:01

We've just bought a (nearly new) car - it's a fancyish model (to us - we're talking £22k) and a Big Purchase. We found were fairly fussy on model spec and there were only white ones available. I hate the colour! Looks like a big molar.

wonkylegs · 31/03/2017 14:06

Grey was £625 extra, some of the metallic colours were over £1200 more so I can understand why some people would go for the free 'white' ones

myomy · 31/03/2017 14:09

Not all white paint is free btw. My old white car was free but had to pay extra for it this time as this one isn't a solid white.
I chose white because it doesn't show the dirt as much as you think. It doesn't show 'swirl' marks like other colours.
Silver is the best colour all round but I have had so many of them I have fell out with that colour.
Red fades after a couple of years and darker colours like black and dark greys never look clean (I say that as dh drives a black car) unless washed that day.

bruffin · 31/03/2017 14:11

I have a pearl white car (iridescent) but we only ended up with that colour because the dealer gave us no choice really, they wanted to get sales in for end of march and only had white available.
I work for a delearship and one of our brands has 7 different shades of white

museumum · 31/03/2017 14:11

White cars are safest / most visible.

MOISTOWLETT · 31/03/2017 14:12

My mum has an orange car, I'd rather it was white! Confused

KinkyAfro · 31/03/2017 14:13

I got a white car for the first time but only because it was in the garage at the time, was the only one there and it looked ok. I've always had black/grey cars before and I should've stuck with that, mine is permanently filthy

wasonthelist · 31/03/2017 14:13

I think you'll find that's yellow :)
