new Smile

This thread made me pop out the front door and check the small green outside our house

Luckily its still full of daffs

We helped plant those years ago

ShatnersBassoon · 27/03/2017 18:43

Why is dad a cheap skate?

Grin Grin

Oh, you're not joking. Encouraging your children to nick flowers from a civic display when you could buy a bunch for £1 is not disgraceful thieving behaviour to you? Sure Hmm

PlayOnWurtz · 27/03/2017 18:45

If someone helped themselves to my tulips or roses I'd smack them one

Notso · 27/03/2017 18:50

Twenty seven is a lot of daffodils and I assume they were caught in the act so would have picked more.
Also was it the kids Mum in the car? Hardly a Mothers a Day treat for her.

user1490634864 · 27/03/2017 18:50

The police are BU to waste time doing this when their attention and resources are desperately needed elsewhere. It must've been a quiet area/time, I recently had to wait an hour and a half for the police to remove my stalker ex.

Peonyfan · 27/03/2017 18:52

No they are not. She was driving past. There is also evidence to show that being quite hardline on minor crime has a delayed effect on preventing more major ones.

originalbiglymavis · 27/03/2017 18:53

Can you imagine how you'd feel if your child presented you with a bunch of free range daffs? You would know that they'd been pinched from a park or verge. Oh the shame!

Especially if the kids start telling you about the bad police officer who tries to stop daddy, the the filming, the rowing... The mace, handcuffs and community service (I wish).

Ah well, since he has gone to the meeda I suspect that the death threats will start rolling in (what a world...)

mycavitiesareempty · 27/03/2017 18:55

Gosh. Can you imagine being married to him?? What an effing bellend. Mansplaining, patronising, entitled, mean .... he's a real catch!

ShatnersBassoon · 27/03/2017 18:55

I think the police were passing. It wouldn't have been a 999 call given top priority. I doubt they stopped en route to an urgent call out. Sometimes there will be short periods when police on patrol have a break in calls. Obviously.

paxillin · 27/03/2017 18:56

It appears to be an annual sad face though. There was one last year. Maybe they are posed by actors so the rest of us get the "don't steal the daffodils" message every year.

MistressMerryWeather · 27/03/2017 18:56

Children can still enjoy flowers. My boys pick lovely bunches of daisies, buttercups, dandelions etc all the time.

But they know that the daffodils are there for everyone to enjoy and that you never steal flowers from other people's gardens.

StaggerLeee · 27/03/2017 18:57

What an absolute idiot the father is. How embarrassing. The policewoman handled it very well - so calm.

Goldfishshoals · 27/03/2017 18:58

He makes a right twat of himself in that video, doesn't he? Doesn't have the brain power to follow simple logic like 'if everyone let their kids take 30 flowers there would be any'.

I've always thought you must have the patience of a saint to be a police officer. Having to constantly rise above entitled arseholes like this. I honestly don't know how they do it (and am so very glad they do).

"go catch real criminals" ffs, it's not like she was arresting his five year old. Just telling them not to pick them.

ReginaGeorgeinSheepsClothing · 27/03/2017 19:00

I hope Caitlin Moran leaves open access to her garden then! It's a free (flowers) for all!!

previously1474etc · 27/03/2017 19:04

Maybe he took them to a cemetary afterwards to get some more flowers.

mycavitiesareempty · 27/03/2017 19:05

I bet the lady in the car is not the mother of his children. If she has any sense the girls' mother will have kicked him to the kerb ages ago :)

Goldfishshoals · 27/03/2017 19:11

The police are BU to waste time doing this when their attention and resources are desperately needed elsewhere.

So if a police officer in passing saw someone committing a minor crime against you (stealing something inexpensive from your house or bag for example) you'd expect them to just ignore it because there's other crimes needing their attention more? Because I'd expect them to do what this officer does, take a minute or two to give a proportional response (in this case, explain to someone they are doing something wrong and taking the item away, and when they kicked off like a twat giving them a warning).

I'm sure that wasn't the only thing the officer did all day!

megletthesecond · 27/03/2017 19:12

Dad is an entitled twat.

Peonyfan · 27/03/2017 19:14

It's the broken windows effect. Deal with minor crime, zero tolerance, pioneered in NYC.

pigsDOfly · 27/03/2017 19:16

Think I'll pop into the council offices tomorrow, I need some pens and I could really use a new laptop, 'cause, you know, I pay for them, don't I? I'm entitled to go and help myself, aren't I?

We have an organisation in my town that, every spring, puts planters full of beautiful flowers all over the town. It look glorious.

Not sure who funds it tbh, but the people who do the work are volunteers who work hard to make the display possible.

Never seen anyone picking them, and given that the planters always look full, I assume no one ever does.

It adds so much to the appearance of the town and always makes me smile when I pass one.

I'd be bloody furious if I saw someone stealing them.

Of course the police officer was right to take them from the children. They were not theirs to pick something their stupid father needs to understand.

pigsDOfly · 27/03/2017 19:23

Just watched the video. Well, he doesn't do himself any favours.

However, the police officer? I think she's great.

TheJiminyConjecture · 27/03/2017 19:24

Dad's an absolute bell end.

isadoradancing123 · 27/03/2017 19:28

Dad 100%

user1490634864 · 27/03/2017 19:57

Goldfish, yes I'd expect them to help if I was being mugged but I wouldn't expect them to stop someone picking my flowers.

originalbiglymavis · 27/03/2017 20:03

If the police walked by and ignored what is a crime, then there would be complaints!

Just like a doctor can't pick and choose who/what they want to treat (just a rash? Come back when you've got cancer), the police would get gip for walking by a minor crime.

If the idiot dad had just stopped his kids when asked (or didn't let m then in the first place) then this would be a non issue. Him being a self centered gobshites of the mememe generation made it out to something larger than it ought. Hope he gets charged for wasting police time.
