How much is acceptable for a cash wedding gift?

I've been invited to my brother's wedding in a few weeks. The invitation has a poem requesting cash towards the honeymoon instead of a present. My own wedding is 2 month after his, so money is fairly tight at the moment. Really tight, actually.

How much will be ok as the gift? My DP, our 2 DC (preschooler and toddler) and I makes 4 of us invited. My brother and his wife to be are much better off than us (and they know this) so I don't want to give too little as I'd feel embarrassed but obviously I don't want to give too much Blush

I just don't know the etiquette regarding cash gifts, I haven't even mentioned gifts on my own wedding invitations because I'm clueless!

I would not give cash to my brother I would give a personalised gift.

My cousin is getting married next week and i have given £40. My mum has given £30 and my sister and aunt have given £50.

I am the most well off out of every single family member of mine but no way would i give £100 plus.

When i got married we barley got anything. We got a £25 argos voucher, and other very small things totalling no more than £100.

However everyone paid for their own meal after the wedding as at the time we werent earning alot and we got married, had a baby and kitted out a house all in one year!! The cost per head for the meal was £16 each. We had around 18 guests.

The problem with big wedddings is that they are very costly not only to the bride and groom but to the guests too. I am very heavily pregnant so have had to buy a maternity ocassion dress, dh has lost alot of weight so he needs to buy a new suit and i ve had to buy dd a nice ocassion dress.

They are also having the full event at a local place that charge stupid amounts for drinks so all this has to be factored in also.
