AIBU to think Katie Hopkins is straying closer and closer to the line that separates legitimate "right wing" politics, and unacceptable "far right" extremism?

I find this article a) utterly incoherent in its argument and b) utterly abhorrent in its content....

Yesterday's attack is deeply deeply saddening- we live in London and we're heartbroken that this has happened again- but I actually find Katie's bile almost as saddening and troubling- as I fear these are views held by many many more people... sure these are just words, and yesterday saw vile, violent actions... but those actions would have begun with words of hate and anger too...

1) Attack is reported. Everyone pretends they don't know the perpetrator is an Islamist.
2) Regressive left prays it's a white supremacist/Christian/insert other
3) Fake shock as it's reported it could be the result of Islamist terrorist.
4) Outpouring of grief for the victims.
5) Frenzied detachment from Islam: it's a religion of peace, nothing to do with Muslims etc.
6) Remind people that Islamophobia is the most important threat here.
7) Desperately search for anything bad that a Christian had ever done.
7) Remind people that terrorism is part of living in a big city.
8) Wait until the next non-Islamist terror attack and repeat.

Stick a flag on facebook

That is terrible but it really made me laugh.

Count2three · 23/03/2017 21:16

But no solutions. Because sniping is easy to do. Criticising is easy. Blaming is easy.

Absolutely. But let's lift the veil (excuse the pun); hold the Islamists to account, stop the whataboutery and start acknowledging that we don't need to pander to those hell bent on destroying our free society. It is patronising and bigoted to not expect the Islamist minorities to live up to the same standards we expect of others.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 21:18

People who don't respect others are held to the same standards.

Count2three · 23/03/2017 21:21

Lweji What's with the race card? Islamism is a political ideology linked with Islam, not a race.

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 21:21

Can you give some examples of the standards that you expect others to live up to?

And how this will stop terrorist attacks happening?

merrymouse · 23/03/2017 21:26

count, it's quite true that Corbyn et al have allied themselves with dodgy Muslim extremists and are happy to forgive Muslim homophobia and sexism.

However, pragmatically, the point of Muslim terrorism in the west is to create general anti Muslim feeling and alienate 'westernised' Muslims.

The only way to defeat Extremist Islamic terrorism is if the 'us' part of 'them and us' includes Muslims.

ISIS love Katie Hopkins. The thing that really threatens them is the fact that Sadiq Khan can be mayor of London.

So yes, Islam can be a religion of peace. Gay people can be Muslims. Muslim women can do whatever they want. In London.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 21:27

I didn't say that anyone was racist. I said that certain people would specifically say they weren't racist before going on to blame all Muslims for the acts of a few.

See previous posts on racism about gingers.

Count2three · 23/03/2017 21:28

ego Yes, we could start with not killing innocent people on Westminster bridge.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 21:31

Yes, we could start with not killing innocent people on Westminster bridge.
Who's we? Because deranged and dangerous individuals will always exist. In the name of whatever they fancy.

nikelarsedstirgin · 23/03/2017 21:32

I really like khan. I wish he could be leader instead of Corbyn. I might even have voted for him (only if they got rid of abbot-she is a waffler). Instead I've only got May because it really is not an option to vote for corbs.

merrymouse · 23/03/2017 21:36

Muslims arent allowed to kill people on Westminster bridge or anywhere else (assuming they are civilians and not e.g. Police).

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 21:37

ego Yes, we could start with not killing innocent people on Westminster bridge

Terrorism is a problem. How do you stop people doing that?

Count2three · 23/03/2017 21:38

Yes, merry, with Muslims. Of course with Muslims. Most Muslims are peaceful followers of their religion. I'm as frustrated and confused at a lack of solution as anyone else. But when people cannot even bring themselves to acknowledge there is a very dangerous minority who are solely to blame, we're doomed. A fuck head murdered innocent people in London yesterday. The fuck head was an Islamist. Islamism is a big problem right now. It was once Christianity, now it's Islamism. We need to unite (Christians, Muslims, Athiests etc) against Islamism not against Muslims.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 21:39

Imagine going to any Muslim person and telling them: don't kill people on Westminster Bridge.
Erm, I wasn't planning on...
Hmm

Deadsouls · 23/03/2017 21:40

I admit I have not read through all 27 pages. So this question may have been answered.
I scanned briefly through the Hopkins article. I'm not sure why Sadiq Khan or his father's occupation comes into it. What has he got to do with this?

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 23/03/2017 21:41

I just need to put this here ...

Katie Hopkins
Lweji · 23/03/2017 21:42

Ok, what are we all supposed to do about dangerous Islamists?

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 21:43

Islamism is a big problem right now

Yes. It is. Terrorism inspired by ISIS is a big problem. You have identified the problem. Well done. People are against terrorism inspired by ISIS.

Now what...

Deadsouls · 23/03/2017 21:44

Okay I re-read the article, because he is Muslim. Anyway it's still irrelevant to the premise of the article.

London has a long history of migrant settlement, and immigrant populations being the centre of global trading. Immigration is hardly a new thing in London.

areyoubeingserviced · 23/03/2017 21:44

The worst thing about her is that I am not sure if she believes the crap that she writes. She revels in her notoriety.
She will push too far and fall flat on her face.
I cannot wait.

Deadsouls · 23/03/2017 21:46

Yes I think she believes what she writes.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 21:46

Borrowed shamelessly stolen from another thread.

This is what we do.

Katie Hopkins
egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 21:46

But when people cannot even bring themselves to acknowledge there is a very dangerous minority who are solely to blame, we're doomed

I think that people on here are aware that there is a very dangerous group out there who have inspired people in the UK and elsewhere to carry out such acts.

But you're right - it is hard to find a solution. It's very easy to write columns, appear on Fox and tweet about the problem. Much harder to solve it.

Deadsouls · 23/03/2017 21:48

It was either in 'the god delusion' by Dawkins or 'god is not great'
By Hitchins where the Muslim religion is discussed and an argument proposed as to why there is much conflict and turmult within it, at this time in our history

Deadsouls · 23/03/2017 21:49

lweji I love it
