AIBU to think Katie Hopkins is straying closer and closer to the line that separates legitimate "right wing" politics, and unacceptable "far right" extremism?

I find this article a) utterly incoherent in its argument and b) utterly abhorrent in its content....

Yesterday's attack is deeply deeply saddening- we live in London and we're heartbroken that this has happened again- but I actually find Katie's bile almost as saddening and troubling- as I fear these are views held by many many more people... sure these are just words, and yesterday saw vile, violent actions... but those actions would have begun with words of hate and anger too...

hanna exactly! I think some posters would benefit from reading some of Majid Nawaaz's ideas (a former Islamic extremist). The regressive left show bigotry of low expectations. The Islamist minorities are not expected to behave in a civilised way, which equates to a form of prejudice in itself. It is hypocrisy of the highest order: they (the regressives) refuse to accept and confront bigotry shown by some minorities for the sake of political correctness. Other groups/religions are expected to show more restraint.

It really is ok to say there is a problem with Islamist ideology in this country without resorting to whataboutery

I am an atheist; I do not like organised religion but some are worse than others. Right now Islamism poses the biggest threat to our society.

Dan Snow's exchange with KH on Twitter this afternoon was amusing

Why are we going on about other religions. Its the same every time there's a muslim act of terror.

Because many people don't seem to be able to tell the difference between the worldwide Muslim population and ISIS.

Because the White House is being guided by somebody who thinks there will be an inevitable clash of civilisations between Muslims and Jews and Christians.

Because ISIS really, really wants all Muslims to feel alienated because they also want war.

The most threatening thing to all these people is the idea that Muslims and Christians and Jews and atheists and Hindus and Buddhists etc. etc. can all get along together.

MI5 shares intel with the US, so yesterdays terrorist was already banned from travelling to the US. You can bet on that

You do know that in the US, people on no fly lists still have the right to buy guns if they are American?

ShamefulDodger · 23/03/2017 19:25

Bloody hell, did you see how many 'likes' there were?

Nearly 12,000 on some of the comments!

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 19:27

southall

Do you think people who have come to the attention of the security services because they might be extremists should be arrested and detained without trial?

Maybe sent to an internment camp?

Lweji · 23/03/2017 19:31

I wish Katie was our PM she would be our female version of President Trump.

I've said it before. Be careful what you wish for.
I almost wish she was. And then you'd have to live in a country run by her. Grin

What I meant was that they should ban all UK passport holders. Just in case.

How many UK born have already committed or tried to commit terrorist acts? Very dangerous.

derxa · 23/03/2017 19:33

And you equate it with CoE and Cos only? Yes I'm that parochial, small minded and ignorant.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 19:35

And you equate it with CoE and Cos only? Yes I'm that parochial, small minded and ignorant.
If you say so.

SuperSheepdog · 23/03/2017 19:36

I do agree with KH on the Facebook rubbish. Let's all change our picture and hold candles bs. Better intelligence and arming more police would help, not silly profile pictures.

hannashanoi · 23/03/2017 19:36

It was a muslim act of terror, as is the majority world wide. Lets stick to that.

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 19:38

Imagine the uproar. British people all being assumed to be dangerous because a few of them had commited terrorist acts.

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 19:39

It was a muslim act of terror, as is the majority world wide. Lets stick to that

It was also a male act of violence.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 19:40

Or an act of terror by a UK Muslim black man. Which is the worst bit? UK, Muslim, black or man?
Was it a male act of terror? Yes.
A UK act of terror? As well, yes.

Eliza22 · 23/03/2017 19:43

But...we can't take the fact that it was a Muslim (rooted in an ideology/a religious viewpoint) act of violence, out of the equation. That's not racist or bigotry. It's truth.

hannashanoi · 23/03/2017 19:45

Not a typical "male" sort of crime committed in London on a day to day basis. It was a muslim act of terror, as is the majority world wide. For goodness sake.

derxa · 23/03/2017 19:47

If you say so. I do Grin

merrymouse · 23/03/2017 19:48

Are most acts of terror carried out by Muslims? The world is quite a big place. Define terrorist. Is there much Islamic terrorism in South America? Africa? India?

Lweji · 23/03/2017 19:48

So, you think it was a typical Muslim crime committed day to day?

The other day it was a drunk male driver that hit people.
Look at most rampage killers. Virtually all men. Not all Muslim.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 19:49

But...we can't take the fact that it was a Muslim (rooted in an ideology/a religious viewpoint) act of violence, out of the equation.

But why did you take the UK born and the male out of the equation?

Alfieisnoisy · 23/03/2017 19:50

It was a an act of terror...the rest is immaterial.

It was a man....most terrorism is male led. Gender is a big issue.

Am surprised by his age...was expecting a younger man,

He could just as easily have been a far right nutter like Thomas Mair.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 19:53

ISIS seems to have claimed responsibility. So, we could say that it was an ISIS terror act.
In the same way that anything carried out by a mad Christian sect wouldn't be considered a Christian act, but a "insert sect name" act.

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 19:54

Not a typical "male" sort of crime committed in London on a day to day basis

When was the last time a Muslim carried out this crime in London?

derxa · 23/03/2017 19:54

I'm just watching Brendan Cox on Ch4 News talking eloquently about his experience. The terrorists want us to turn on each other. We should fight extremism. He's trying to bring communities together. Let's end pointless bickering.
