AIBU to think Katie Hopkins is straying closer and closer to the line that separates legitimate "right wing" politics, and unacceptable "far right" extremism?

I find this article a) utterly incoherent in its argument and b) utterly abhorrent in its content....

Yesterday's attack is deeply deeply saddening- we live in London and we're heartbroken that this has happened again- but I actually find Katie's bile almost as saddening and troubling- as I fear these are views held by many many more people... sure these are just words, and yesterday saw vile, violent actions... but those actions would have begun with words of hate and anger too...

Yes end radicalisation- on the right as well

Agree. :)

25bottles · 23/03/2017 13:02

"They" are living amongst "us".
I'm guessing you are putting all the muslims on the they side.
As a Muslim woman, I am not responsible for every act of terror that a fellow Muslim commits.
I will not apologise for something that has nothing to do with me or how I live my life.
This Muslim community that you speak of does not exist. Everyone is just getting on with their life.
I don't know what my Muslim neighbor does or thinks.
Islam is a spectrum of beliefs.

Zippydoodah · 23/03/2017 13:02

*We haven't had a major terrorist attack in this country for nearly 12 years. Two days ago, Martin McGuinness died. He was directly, or indirectly, responsible for the deaths of dozens, if not hundreds of people in the Northern Ireland Troubles. Think back to the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. There were bombs and atrocities carried out on a monthly basis, even weekly sometimes, and McGuinness was behind some of those. McGuinness was as radicalised as anyone in ISIS, or the absolute fucker who carried out yesterday's attack. Let's keep a perspective on terrorism - it is the action of fanatics, not a failure of our society.

Back in the 80s, did you ever hear of anyone in the national media calling for the banning of Catholicism? Or demanding that Irish people were all responsible for the IRA's brutality? Or demanding that Irish people be deported, or had constant surveillance? Or demanding that Catholic churches be closed down? Of course you didn't. Because it would be a stupid thing to say.* I agree. Our memories are so short. My mother is from NI, though, and she was frequently on the receiving end of such bigoted comments way back then. Her standard response was 'well, I didn't do it.' The same would apply to any other person of the muslim faith. They didn't do it either.

Phnut · 23/03/2017 13:02

BillSykesDog - I'm willing to bet that the reason why so many radicalised Muslims are being watched by the security services, and why so many plots have been foiled, is because the security services are informed by people within the Muslim community.

nikelarsedstirgin · 23/03/2017 13:03

The preachers that inspire these people are not "home grown" usually.

They need to be tough on that.

TisMeTheLadFromTheBar · 23/03/2017 13:03

She is a complete troll. She is hungry for fame and she does what she has to do to get it.

Farage: Anti-Travel Ban Protesters Need to Reflect on London Terror Attack

Any chance of banning Farage from travelling?

I'd ban cars, actually. And knives.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/03/2017 13:05

I really cant stand farage

He is such a piece of pond scum

Eliza22 · 23/03/2017 13:05

I remember the father of one of the Bethnal Green schoolgirls appealing for her safe return. I watched and felt genuine sympathy for his plight and could only imagine the family's nightmare to lose their daughter to ISIS. Then I saw footage of him from 2012, when he was actively demonstrating, burning flags and joining in a vicious street scene proclaiming hatred against the west. If this father openly preached his hatred at home, as his family were growing up, is it any wonder their allegiance is to terrorism? It's just one example but really, we've no idea of what people really think. No idea.

nikelarsedstirgin · 23/03/2017 13:06

Yes most Muslims do not want this to happen. They are happy to report.

You can not expect them to publicly condone. They are often concerned about repurcussions for them from their family and friends.

The shop owner in glasgow died recently for speaking about loving his christIan country. People drove a long way to kill him.

I just hope Muslims keep reporting.

Cooroo · 23/03/2017 13:06

(No time to RTFT so sorrry if this has been said)
It needs to stop.
Of course it does. But it is in the news precisely because it is a pretty rare thing. Three women a week murdered by their partners or ex-partners is so commin it is rarely reported.
There are a lot of things that need to stop. But I don't see how hatred, intolerance and lumping people together (men/Muslims) helps.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 13:07

The preachers that inspire these people are not "home grown" usually.

Perhaps it's more useful to look at why these people get "inspired".

And white supremacists too.

But there will always be vulnerable people, as well as people with hate and violence tendencies that see such "preaching" as an excuse to act on such tendencies.

Eliza22 · 23/03/2017 13:07

Yes, Farage is scum. BNP, BritainFirst. I agree. Hatred under a different banner.

BeMorePanda · 23/03/2017 13:08

Farage is spectacularly thick - this attacker was British born. But haters don't let facts like that get in the way of their bilge.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/03/2017 13:08

zippy

I remember getting nasty comments in the playground in the late 70's and early 80's

BeMorePanda · 23/03/2017 13:09

or more likely Farage thinks knows the people who "follow" him are thick.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/03/2017 13:10

Any chance of banning Farage from travelling?

Any chance of banning Farage from doing anything apart from eating, shitting and sleeping. Or maybe we should prevent him from doing these things too........ could we do the same with this troll as well?? Silly woman.

SolomanDaisy · 23/03/2017 13:11

Years ago Hopkins would have had a 'no dogs, no Irish' sign. Extremist terrorists have always existed, so have racists using them as an excuse to display their racism.

Charlieismydarlin · 23/03/2017 13:11

How do mosques, when instructing children, deal with the violent and anti-gay passages in their writings? You are not meant to interpret this wording so we need to know what is being said to children.

This is key to ensuring that cultures can live together peacefully.

southall · 23/03/2017 13:12

Katie's interview on fox last night:

Lweji · 23/03/2017 13:13

Mummyoflittledragon

Maybe put him in the Big Brother house and turn off the cameras.

I was going to suggest with Abu Hamza, but he's in jail now.

Maybe KH could join him, instead.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 13:15

How do mosques, when instructing children, deal with the violent and anti-gay passages in their writings?

I expect the same as Christian schools deal with Sodom and Gomorrah.
And other parts that talk about stoning people.

Megatherium · 23/03/2017 13:19

Anyone who speaks out against this political correctness risks getting fired.

What nonsense. Do you seriously believe Hopkins is going to get fired for this? She might get fired for writing lies and incurring hefty libel damages for her employers, but not for this article.

I get really irritated by the way right-wingers go round constantly claiming persecution, against all the evidence. Three months ago there were several going round claiming that political correctness had abolished Christmas, yet I could see no signs of it as I went round the shops full of Christmas stuff and the churches holding Christmas services and watched Christmas being celebrated all over our national broadcaster.

BillSykesDog · 23/03/2017 13:23

Except, Lweji, those bits are in the Old Testament and are superseded and effectively annulled by the New. Nor does Christianity have the culture that the entire bible is the infallible unquestionable word of God.
