AIBU to think Katie Hopkins is straying closer and closer to the line that separates legitimate "right wing" politics, and unacceptable "far right" extremism?

I find this article a) utterly incoherent in its argument and b) utterly abhorrent in its content....

Yesterday's attack is deeply deeply saddening- we live in London and we're heartbroken that this has happened again- but I actually find Katie's bile almost as saddening and troubling- as I fear these are views held by many many more people... sure these are just words, and yesterday saw vile, violent actions... but those actions would have begun with words of hate and anger too...

Aaaaand, we never had an open door policy. There's that little thing called the Channel and the agreement with France et al that they wouldn't let undocumented people travel.

And the attacker was British born.

F

Please try harder.

BillSykesDog · 23/03/2017 12:05

Why do you think it can never be stopped? Islam has been around for centuries but this type of terrorism is quite recent

Mmmm, well this exact type yes. But an Islam which seeks to spread by violent means has been around since the beginning and never gone away.

squishysquirmy · 23/03/2017 12:07

So how does KH propose we stop it then?
By escalating the violence further?

calli335 · 23/03/2017 12:08

Why do you think it can never be stopped? Do you think it can? How? The extremists want a caliphate so how do you make them change their minds?

Peregrina · 23/03/2017 12:08

The news is now reporting he was a British born Muslim from Birmingham.

So how does curbing immigration help, both from the EU and the rest of the world, as one poster suggested it had done?

BillSykesDog · 23/03/2017 12:09

Xenophile that reminds me. Has anybody seen that fucking ridiculous post doing the rounds on FB demanding that a wall is built around the UK borders to stop migrants getting in. It's. Called. The. Fucking. Sea.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 12:11

This is an isolated act of violence carried out by one violent disaffected individual. He wanted to make some deranged political / religious point by attacking individuals outside the House of Parliament - he should not be rewarded by being given any significance as part of an organised terrorist co-ordinated attack on the west/ liberal democracy

This. Very much.

But Lweji - There IS a difference between serial killers and people motivated by religious and political ideology to kill civilians, though. It's daft to pretend that there's isn't.

See above.
It's daft to pretend he's more than a deranged individual, whatever his inner motivations. His ultimate motivation was hate and death.

Keeley71 · 23/03/2017 12:11

And the attacker was British born

That's even worse for me. Just goes to show that some people will never embrace our way of life no matter how long they've lived here.
Multicultural epic fail.

calli335 · 23/03/2017 12:12

Changes to immigration will make no difference at all. The extremists are British born young men who have been brainwashed.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 12:12

Grin

Not a "moat", then? Maybe they meant Scotland. Oh, wait...

allegretto · 23/03/2017 12:13

Do you think it can? How?

Yes. Obviously I don't know how exactly but I am not a terrorism expert. I think we can safely say it is not by giving in to knee-jerk reactions and racism. If you look at what the experts are saying, it is going to be a long and complicated process - involving how we react to terrorism, foreign policy decisions and grassroot action. Katie Hopkins would like us to think there is one simple answer and that is to get rid of "them". She doesn't explain how this works though, especially in the light of the news that the terrorist was British.

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 12:13

Just goes to show that some people will never embrace our way of life no matter how long they've lived here

Just like other people who are born in the UK and commit acts of violence against people just trying to live their life.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 12:13

I'll post this again:

Well, yes, we could ask David Copeland that.

Or Harold Shipman, Joanna Dennehy, Stephen Port, Stephen Griffiths.

Derrick Bird, anyone remember him? Responsible for the Cumbria shootings of random people?

Thomas Hamilton of the Dunblane massacre?

Good thing they were not muslim.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 12:14

Individual white people killing - mad - blame mental health services or just be sad

Individual Muslim people killing - terrorism - blame the entire community

southall · 23/03/2017 12:16

Why is PC a bad thing?

The authorities are deluded and think a politically correct soft approach will work with these people.

Anyone who speaks out against this political correctness risks getting fired.
So everyone just goes along with it.

This has happened in Sweden to the point where they are welcoming back ISIS fighters with open arms.

They give them housing, benefits etc.

www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...-a7371266.html

The UK will end up like this unless more people like Katie speak up.

Although the UK, especially London, may be a lost cause already.

SuperFlyHigh · 23/03/2017 12:16

I live in suburbs of London and will work from next week in central government in Holborn.

I lived and worked in London round the time of both the 9/11 and 7/7 bombings. I actually worked a street away from the Brick Lane Mosque, used to see them going to attend prayers and though it was quite peaceful I didn't quite know whether the Muslims attending that mosque really actually hated the white British people or were just indifferent/liked us.

egosumquisum1 · 23/03/2017 12:16

I notice Trump hasn't said much - because he has no idea how to prevent such attacks.

He might reflect if his views on Islam and Muslims help the situation.

Lweji · 23/03/2017 12:18

Well the truth to say that our current 'open door' policy on immigration sadly means that there will be more of these incidents.

OK, fact check:

a) the UK doesn't have an open door policy on immigration
b) this man (and 3 of the july 7 bombers) was born in the UK
c) he didn't need outside help

So, what is the truth, again?

Lweji · 23/03/2017 12:19

This has happened in Sweden to the point where they are welcoming back ISIS fighters with open arms.

They give them housing, benefits etc

When they conduct a terrorist attack in Sweden, then let us know.

SuperFlyHigh · 23/03/2017 12:19

After the Tunisian attacks I recall being in the car going on a long journey and hearing LBC on radio about it. The presenter made a valid point about the fact that no one apart from the attendees and preachers actually know what is being preached in British mosques, eg hate incitation, jihad etc. I agree with him.

oldmum22 · 23/03/2017 12:19

Katie Hopkins does not speak for me. I saw the emergency services response on TV, to this atrocity and I do not see us as a broken country. I saw this country as strong, united in their grief and horror at what had happened. We will overcome these extremists ,we just all need to stand together. BTW, KH how do you know if the people in Brussels have forgiven the terrorists for last year? Just because people chose to make heart shapes with their hands ,says more about the people who were lost ,than the assailants.

squishysquirmy · 23/03/2017 12:21

Summary of the vile far right opportunistic responses to the attacks:

"Britain First, within a few hours they had posted a Facebook event, a March Against Terrorism. No words of condolence for the victims, or their families, they just saw an opportunity to cause more problems in a city that will still be reeling from yesterdays events. More policing needed, at a time when the resources will be stretched already"

"Tommeh Robinson with his new BFF and videographer could not resist making it all about himself, and how he alone has been correct all these years. He then just descended into rants, retweets and self promotion, yet, never once showed any empathy for the victims or their families."

"He (Nigel Farage) used the event to appear on Fox News, promoting Trump’s travel ban ... No mention whatsoever of the victims."

The link below has pictures of the injured receiving care, but nothing too graphic and the faces of the injured are not visible.

This is the worry...

TedEriksen · 23/03/2017 12:21

Well the truth to say that our current 'open door' policy on immigration sadly means that there will be more of these incidents.

Can you read the details of what happened yesterday, and then explain what immigration has to do with this incident, please?
