To have developed a crush on Jacob Rees Mogg?

I'm not talking about his politics. I mean him.

I first started to like him when I saw him in that BBC documentary a few years ago, "Inside the Commons". I liked his artful filibustering.

Then I thought he came across well in that Channel 5 documentary about MPs in their constituencies Behind Closed Doors.

he's just so deliciously of a type.

BigChocFrenzy

It was never his wifes home. It also hasn't been his mother in laws home since she was 13 and her father died and it was sold off.

I do wish people would get their facts correct before regurgitating mems peppers with alternative facts

Thank you Still. Mumsnet isn't immune to Fake News then.

Eugh.

I wish I was as stupid as JRM. He started investing on the stock market at 12 and has made about £150m.

But hey, he's a Tory so it's cool to be disparaging how about him.

specialsubject · 19/03/2017 15:52

artful filibustering - talking out bills by playing parliamentary silly buggers. He is the reason we are all in the dark Nov to mar because he talked out the lighter later bill.

But he is in London so doesn't care, and clearly has a good night time hobby . ... He is the antidote to democracy and a typical 'food comes from waitrose' type. His religion means he cannot see past his nose.

If wifey is happy with him as the extra kid ( he is proud of having no domestic skills at all) then good luck to her. The money is good.

SoupDragon · 19/03/2017 16:12

I think the reason some people are "in the dark" is geography and the natural world.

GraceGrape · 19/03/2017 16:17

I think you must be subconsciously attracted to his money. I genuinely can't conceive of there being anything else that could be considered appealing about him. Also, his whiny, nasally voice is so off-putting.

annandale · 19/03/2017 16:26

I'm sure he's lovely to chat to, but why is it surprising that an English nationalist and a Scottish nationalist are friends? Just because Nicola Sturgeon is smart and populist?

PoundlandUK · 19/03/2017 16:33

He is stomach-turningly unattractive. I think it's because for all his wealth, he lacks humility. Something I can't quite put my finger on but I don't classify him as a real man Confused

Andrewofgg · 19/03/2017 16:34

I believe you can get help. There are support groups. My name's Orlando and I fancy complete tossers.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 16:37

YABVU. I went to the same Oxford college as him and saw him strutting along in the 3 piece suit he always wore. He was a figure of some amusement to the other students. I seem to remember that the JCR clubbed together to buy him a pair of jeans

I would admire him for that alone. Jeans are boring, everywhere and look good on almost no one.

BabychamSocialist · 19/03/2017 16:39

Yep, YABU. I can't separate him from his politics. He's erudite and witty sure, but so was Ted Bundy.

He's an utter, utter twat and so right-wing that he's actually fallen off the cliff. He doesn't live in the real world at all.

Plus, this is how it starts. We keep normalising idiots like JRM and Boris, and then they end up in positions of power and you see how much of a twat they really are.

Remember how people used to have little jokes about Theresa May and her fabulous taste in shoes and fashion? Well, we made her seem human and now we have Maggie 2.0 as our unelected PM kicking disabled people and pushing for the hardest Brexit ever.

badabeedabom · 19/03/2017 16:40

In fairness Wentworth Woodhouse has not belonged to his wife's family for some time, although they are still in the board of trustees IIRC.

It's owned by someone else now and is of immense historical importance to the nation.

The family's 'scandals' and divisions are fascinating if you want to delve into them.

He's a bit of a dick but the Wentworth Woodhouse grant has in no way financially benefited his wife, Helena de Chair, personally not that she needs it anyway.

I agree, let's not give him too much credit GrinGrin

Hmm. He didn't look admirable, he looked like a twat. And obviously not everyone actually wore jeans all the time. That was my shorthand for casual dress. But nobody except Jacob wore 3 piece suits. He looked like he thought he was a breed apart. There's nothing wrong with formal attire when appropriate, but a 3 piece suit for just wandering around college is pretty weird.

SpitSpot · 19/03/2017 16:45

He is my MP and while I didn't vote for him and I think he lives a life completely removed from most of his constituents, we do regularly see him wandering along the local High St or in the park just having a chat to people so I do begrudgingly respect him for that.

Eolian · 19/03/2017 16:46

I seriously doubt that he is remotely dim though, whatever his taste in clothes and his pride in being undomesticated.

n0ne · 19/03/2017 16:51

I can't abide his politics but he does have a certain something, I dunno. But I seem to have a slight thing for overly posh men with speech impediments (eg the antiques expert Charles Hanson). I bet he's filthy.

How very intolerant you are.

What is "inappropriate" about wearing a formal suit around college?

It would be inappropriate to say wear one for playing a sport/climbing a mountain/deep sea trawler fishing/ working on a refuse collection lorry - but going to college ?

You appear to be confusing not wanting to look like the (scruffy) herd with being inappropriate and weird.

LassWiTheDelicateAir

Are you his wife - Helena the Chair, or whatever her name is?

If you can't see wearing a three piece suit at university makes you look like a bit of a twat, then I wonder about you. It's not inappropriate, no, but it is incredibly stupid and naive.

Suit or no, that photo shows that he did look a twat whilst at university.
