I'm not talking about his politics. I mean him.

I first started to like him when I saw him in that BBC documentary a few years ago, "Inside the Commons". I liked his artful filibustering.

Then I thought he came across well in that Channel 5 documentary about MPs in their constituencies Behind Closed Doors.

he's just so deliciously of a type.

I think you will find TM IS elected - were are not in the USA ffs.

derxa · 19/03/2017 17:01

I think he's hilarious and a good sport.

CaliforniaHorcrux · 19/03/2017 17:04

Regardless of anyone's physical appearance I couldn't get past their politics which may say more about me than them but people who think it's ok to shit on the sick, disabled and poor are not nice people imo.

Filibustering isn't artful it's been downright heinous sometimes

I think you'll find that when we voted in 2015 we voted for who we did knowing that David Cameron/Ed Miliband/Nick Clegg/Nigel Farage/Caroline Lucas etc would become our PM. Nobody voted for the Tories with TM as leader. In that regard, she is unelected. Nobody voted for her mandate.

And after she spent 3 years having a go at Gordon Brown for doing the same thing, I think she's a total hypocrite. (No surprise there - she's a Tory!)

CactusFred · 19/03/2017 17:10

Bleurgh!

roarityroar · 19/03/2017 17:12

YANBU

I love him. Have met many times. He's a beauty, so polite, so intelligent.

Are you his wife - Helena the Chair, or whatever her name is?

If you can't see wearing a three piece suit at university makes you look like a bit of a twat, then I wonder about you. It's not inappropriate, no, but it is incredibly stupid and naive

No I'm not.

You however are making ridiculous comments which show you to be judgemental and intolerant. What is naive and incredibly stupid about dressing how he wanted to?

Oh and by the way nobody in the U.K has ever voted for a Prime Minister. Our system does not work like that.

caroldecker · 19/03/2017 17:15

The money to Wentworth is also a partial payment for the damage caused by the coal board in the post war period. This was an deliberate plan to damage the house, even the local NUM disagreed with the mining so close to the house which caused structural problems.

emwithme · 19/03/2017 17:19

Orlando YABVVVVVU. Everyone DH knows that JRM is my crush. If we lived where DH did growing up, he would be our MP. We are not allowed to move across Somerset for that reason Grin

He's just so bloody clever, and dry, and witty and cares about history (and vellum!) and no, it's not physical at all but I bet he's FILTHY when it comes down to nookie. not that I've thought much about it. Oh no

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 17:19

Suit or no, that photo shows that he did look a twat whilst at university

Does it ? What does a "twat" look like?

Looks like a bloke in a well cut suit to me.

Bue · 19/03/2017 17:21

Thanks for the laugh, OP!

Florrick · 19/03/2017 17:23

BabychamSocialist UK Politics doesn't work like that ,of which you know- but nice try.

Florrick · 19/03/2017 17:29

I bet he's FILTHY when it comes down to nookie Absolutely!, and he does have FIVE children......

Knifegrinder · 19/03/2017 17:29

But hey, he's a Tory so it's cool to be disparaging how about him.

Yeah, it would obviously be completely unreasonable to disparage someone for belonging to a party which sets social justice aside for a morally-bankrupt, ineffective programme of big business, austerity, deregulation and privatisation, and which thinks inequality is just fine and dandy, and that politics is played by the elite, and watched by the rest of us.

Obviously, JRM's eleven-piece suits, neat parting, and habit of canvassing with his nanny make up for the fact that he's fine with zero hours contracts, argued for the Tories to ally themselves with UKIP, opposes same-sex marriage, is a Trump supporter, and has advocated policies aimed at repatriating immigrants to their homelands.

Florrick · 19/03/2017 17:32

yes, but Knife politics aside, theres nothing wrong with a bit of toff

Dawndonnaagain · 19/03/2017 17:33

I think he's hilarious and a good sport.
Hmm.
Voted for: VAT increase.
Pushing through £30.00 per week ESA cut.
Bedroom Tax.
Reducing corporation tax.
Voted against:
Mansion tax.

Fucking hilarious!

SauvignonBlanche · 19/03/2017 17:41

I find his political views morally repugnant but I can't help having a soft spot for him. Blush

DH wildly takes the piss out of me. Can't stick Boris though.

TheWoodlander · 19/03/2017 17:53

I cannot stand that man. When I saw him on HIGNIFY I almost, almost softened (v slightly) towards him for about 10 seconds. Then I came to my senses.

He gets away with being an utter monster by speaking in clipped tones, having that sort of "Eton" humour, and being slightly quirky.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 19/03/2017 17:55

DicktoPhone those clippings are hilarious! 😂

BabychamSocialist · 19/03/2017 18:26

No, but most people vote for their MP knowing their leader will get to be PM if they have enough seats. It's why I never voted for our Labour MP, lovely as he is, when Tony Blair was leader. Many people are the same way.

Hell, if you voted for Greens at the last election, you were voting for Natalie whatsherface to be PM because she wasn't even standing in a seat.

TM is the very definition of unelected. Nobody voted for the Tories with her manifesto. If she wants to strengthen her position, she should hold a G.E, but she won't because she knows people hate her.

BabychamSocialist · 19/03/2017 18:29

I'm with you Knifegrinder - he also thinks same-sex marriage is "nothing to be proud of" because he thinks it goes against his religion and the 'traditional' (read: homophobic) Tory voter base.

But it's fine, because he's posh and talks funny, so he can do whatever he wants.

poshme · 19/03/2017 18:35

He's very charming, funny & easy to talk to in RL.
Had lunch with him once.
Didn't fancy him though.

Emphasise · 19/03/2017 18:41

I do think he's attractive, did you see him on HIGNFY when Victoria Coren Mitchell was host, he had her all of a flutter!

I enjoy listening to him as a kind of comedy character, which I'm sure that's what he is. Surely no one can be that "nice" but so nasty in their politics, so thick but so articulate and successful? It must all be an act

whoputthecatout · 19/03/2017 18:59

I love the description of him I heard on the telly - can't remember who said it though.

JRM - the MP for the 18th century.

Mind you OP you were giving a hostage to fortune liking any Conservative among the virtue signalling MNetters.

To be fair he is almost as unreal as Jeremy Corbyn, but not quite.

caroldecker · 19/03/2017 19:30

Babycham
A GE tomorrow would return a Conservative landslide. The reason she doesn't do it is the Fixed term Parliament act, which requires either the Tories vote 'no confidence' in themselves or get a 66% majority vote in the House. They will not get this as Labour MP's are not that stupid.
They are also awaiting the changes by the Boundary Commission which will remove the Labour bias in seats.
