I'm not talking about his politics. I mean him.

I first started to like him when I saw him in that BBC documentary a few years ago, "Inside the Commons". I liked his artful filibustering.

Then I thought he came across well in that Channel 5 documentary about MPs in their constituencies Behind Closed Doors.

he's just so deliciously of a type.

Hell, if you voted for Greens at the last election, you were voting for Natalie whatsherface to be PM because she wasn't even standing in a seat

Holborn and St Pancras, won by Keir Starmer for Labour

Ontopofthesunset · 19/03/2017 19:54

Such a repulsive man. It's the old English class system at its best - he genuinely believes that some people are just born to rule which is why his politics are so reprehensible. But he is also physically unpleasant because his body and face are distorted by his smug sense of righteousness and inherent worth. I do think we have enormous problems in this country because of philosophy of 'the rich man in his castle and the poor man at his gate'.

SquireOfGreenway · 19/03/2017 19:55

Jacob Rees Mogg is a gentleman; and he can be perfectly down-to-earth when he meets everyday people - as he frequently does.

He's one of my favourite MPs, I've had "maximum respect" for him ever since his Ali G interview in 1999:

Ontopofthesunset · 19/03/2017 19:57

But you see even that word 'gentleman' is so riddled with class assumption and patronage. I know you probably didn't mean it like that. What would the equivalent be for a woman? She's such a lady?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 20:03

Hell, if you voted for Greens at the last election, you were voting for Natalie whatsherface to be PM because she wasn't even standing in a seat.

You really have no idea what you are talking about.

Her name is Natalie Bennet. She was leader of the Green Party 2010 to 2016. She actually came 3rd increasing the Green vote by 10%.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 20:07

If she wants to strengthen her position, she should hold a G.E, but she won't because she knows people hate her

Missed this. What planet are you on? She would have a landslide if she called an election tomorrow.

Knifegrinder · 19/03/2017 20:08

Mind you OP you were giving a hostage to fortune liking any Conservative among the virtue signalling MNetters.

Ah, virtue signalling, that go-to phrase of the 'shy Tory' keyboard warrior. So, which of JR-M's nasty charmingly eccentric positions do you agree with?

Nothing whimsical there, folks. That is naked Tory self-interest at work.

Emphasise · 19/03/2017 20:15

I am actually guffawing at the idea that TM won't call a GE because she's scared she'd lose. It would be a massive tory landslide.

BabychamSocialist · 19/03/2017 20:20

LassWiTheDelicateAir

Hmm, my mistake. I was convinced she hadn't stood to be elected as an MP. Even so, you can actually be PM without ever being an MP - it used to be the practice years ago.

BabychamSocialist · 19/03/2017 20:24

LassWiTheDelicateAir

Also, I doubt there'd be a Tory landslide. People might not like Corbyn, and Labour wouldn't win, but I think you'd see a hung parliament with the Lib Dems doing well and UKIP picking up a lot of votes because Eurosceptic Tories don't think she's getting on with Brexit quick enough.

You seem to be on a different planet if you think Theresa May is well liked! Horrid woman. Her actions as home secretary, like the "Go Home" billboards around minority ethnic areas, as well as the snooper's charter, which she finally has passed on the quiet, were disgusting.

carrie74 · 19/03/2017 20:31

I have no doubt of his immense intellect, and his probable charm, but as he represents me in Parliament I can't get past his odious politics (nor the fact his reply to a letter I'd written him was along the lines of 'no need to worry your pretty little head about matters of national importance dear'). Despite the fact he lives in the next village, I rarely see him, and have never seen him campaigning. I have heard nice things locally about his wife (but interesting school gossip from a friend who was at school with her, which is best not repeated).

Emphasise · 19/03/2017 20:37

But the majority seem to like those actions Babysham. Ukip couldn't organise the proverbial p-up in a brewery atm and the last coalition did for the libdems.

I honestly don't know how id vote atm, but those who like this nasty right wing position are firm in their view and there are lots of them

BabychamSocialist · 19/03/2017 20:51

You really think people like the govt. keeping a record of all the websites we visit, that they can access whenever they fancy? They don't. There's widespread opposition to it. The only reason it happened is because she did it on the quiet whilst people were distracted about something else.

Anyone who thinks Theresa May is a good PM needs to seriously think. She has no respect for civil liberties, or freedom. She hates the disabled, especially those with mental health issues. She continues to push austerity, which isn't needed, focusing all the cuts on the sick, disabled and vulnerable.

Anybody who votes Tory has enabled this.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 21:02

I honestly don't know how id vote atm, but those who like this nasty right wing position are firm in their view and there are lots of them

I'd vote Conservative. Would be the first time ever in a Westmonster election. You can thank Sturgeon for that.

ForalltheSaints · 19/03/2017 21:04

Probably you are not alone, I am sure.

kittybiscuits · 19/03/2017 21:05

Orlando you are sick. You might be beyond help. He's revolting.

Emphasise · 19/03/2017 21:05

And that is exactly why it would be a landslide. People who really object to voting Tory are finding themselves with no reasonable alternative.

SherbrookeFosterer · 19/03/2017 21:10

I think the advice you are getting today is all floccinaucinihilipilification.

(I am hoping you understand the reference!)

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 21:33

I'd vote Conservative. Would be the first time ever in a Westmonster election. You can thank Sturgeon for that

Or even a Westminster election.

BabychamSocialist · 19/03/2017 22:09

LassWiTheDelicateAir

How could you vote Conservative? Does the continued persecution of disabled, sick and poor people not bother you? I'm guessing not.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 22:13

Labour is in disarray and the SNP is set on destroying my country.

Florrick · 19/03/2017 22:42

You really think people like the govt. keeping a record of all the websites we visit What...MumsNet????

GruffaloPants · 19/03/2017 23:02

He is a soulless void, and looks as though he has excessively bushy unkempt pubes. So YABU.

Bejazzled · 19/03/2017 23:05

Not unreasonable at all.

squishysquirmy · 20/03/2017 09:03

Thankyou for that information knifegrinder - he may be a charming, polite, man but his voting record shows who he really is.

I think it's perfectly possible to be talented at playing the stock market, yet stupid in many other respects. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with having money, but this notion of "the richer somone is, the smarter they are!" that seems to be so popular at the moment is misguided. Look where it got America
