PFB confessions...

Just filled in PFB's "All about me" booklet for starting preschool in five weeks. It has a double-page spread for family photos - comfortably fits about four. I've painstakingly wedged in eleven. PFB grinning. PFB dancing. PFB shoveling food in his face. Then there're sections for writing about what PFB loves, hates, and is good at, word clouds to circle about his personality, tick boxes for how he learns/explores, all that kind of thing. Overall, I have pored over every question and written a carefully considered thesis. The staff going to take one leaf through this and make some (probably fairly accurate) conclusions. And yet, I cannot stop myself. In fact, I am ready to burst into tears at the very thought of taking him in on his first day with his little book all about him clutched in his hands.

Please cheer me up and tell me I'm not the only one who has done/is doing stuff like this. What's your most OTT PFB moment?

(PS. We have twins on the way so I imagine three years from now I'll be howling with laughter at my current self.)

When he started nursery I went into the baby room with 5mo DS and sat playing with him on a mat and holding him for over an hour before even leaving the room. Over the next few sessions I spent 6+ hours in the parents' room anxiously scanning the CCTV and popping in to check on him every half hour.

I remember telling my husband in a very concerned way that the nursery room was '23.5 degrees' and wondering if we should take some action on that.

Just came across this article had a giggle at some of them like wet wipe warmer and baby knee pads and thought it was a perfect one to share here

It's only after reading this thread that I've realised I don't 'have' to give DS a clean babygrow, vest and gro bag every night. I just thought everyone did that til now Blush.

Tortycat · 21/03/2017 09:52

I kept pfb's umbilical cord, and other bits that fell out eg eyelashes, hair from the cot, even big bogeys! Dh thinks it's revolting but somehow I wanted to keep a selection. Doing it now for dc2 so he doesn't think we don't care when he's older...!

Soubriquet · 21/03/2017 09:52

I don't see clean vest and onesie a PFB thing tbh. It's just basic hygiene. Especially if they have a bath before bed

LickingTheButterKnife · 21/03/2017 10:10

I think that if they are wearing a vest underneath it's fine to change the vest but make the babygrow last a bit longer.

I shower daily but I don't change my PJs every night.

I think it's more of a personal choice, as long as the clothes are not dirty/stained etc.

LickingTheButterKnife · 21/03/2017 10:13

I mean sleepsuit, not babygrow! The one with sleeves and long legs.

I need more sleep!

LoveDeathPrizes · 21/03/2017 10:36

Tortycat What will you do with the bogeys?! Grin

mrss1983 · 21/03/2017 11:19

I think I'm missing the pfb gene! I didnt even know it was a thing until I read this. The bath is usually roughly 38 degrees ish, formula is thrown away after 2 hrs (when I remember to look at a clock), we're using cold remedies before 3 months because we need to sleep etc. I did cry once because he was coughing and it made me sad.
As someone who suffers with anxiety and ocd though, most of these things seem perfectly ok if they make you feel better.
DH is much worse than me. He thought a snuffly nose was going to be fatal! It probably come from me being a teacher and witnessing how well children bounce! Grin

Mamadothehump · 21/03/2017 11:30

I'm missing the PFB gene too! Never had a thermometer for the bath or bedroom, never recorded feeds or anything else for that matter and certainly didn't warm baby wipes or try knocking myself out!!
I'm sure some parents think I'm "that mother" at birthday parties etc though as at age 10, DD1 won't touch juice/squash/fizzy drinks or any kind of sweets (she does like chocolate though.) That's nothing to do with me, just her preference!

Passthesalt1 · 21/03/2017 12:23

My spectacular pfb moment was ds being 3 weeks old, I laid him down on his soft plushie blanket so he could have nappy off kick about time.

I used to rub olive oil into his precious skin and make sure he never got rashes, red akin blah blah blah

Well this time he did a wee and it did a loop up and then into his face, he started crying, I screamed, called 999!! Said he had urine in his face and to hurry with an ambulance.

One the operator had calmed me down and then properly told me off, I called the hv who told me off and ds was perfectly fine.

The ironic thing is, I now work for the emergency services and get calls like this (not exactly but wasteful all the same).

Passthesalt1 · 21/03/2017 12:25

I've kept bits as well, like u,biblical cord, ds first scab, hair, nail clipping etc. I have a problem I think

KatharinaRosalie · 21/03/2017 12:32

Grin OK at least I have not yet called an ambulance because there's some pee on my PFB

Tortycat · 21/03/2017 13:11

Pass the salt - glad I'm not the only one! I can't imagine they'll want to look at their nail clippings when they're older but the lovely long eyelashes are sellotaped into a journal for posterity Smile (not the bogeys though!)

shirleycartersaidso · 21/03/2017 13:18

My mum used to anti-bac my poor dog's feet when he came in from a walk if she was around incase he brought germs in - this is when DTs were still immobile so not going to come into contact with anywhere he had walked.

She also used to warm baby wipes on the radiator.

I on the other hand though she was mad, god knows what she was like when i was her PFB!

BoredOnMatLeave · 21/03/2017 13:30

I'm not too bad although I change sleepsuit and vest every night (thought that was normal), and if we have a long journey and DD isn't napping I do sit in the back of the car.

However I have 2 friends, that don't think the are PFB but I was shocked when:
Friend 1 - Baby had first cold and she couldn't use snuffle babe because its suitable from 3 months and he was only 2 months 28 days!
Friend 2 - Purchased a new build property then called the sales office to complain every day when she moved in because builders started work at 9am on the estate and it was waking the baby up. They shouldn't start before 10.30! Grin

Brightsmoke · 21/03/2017 13:54

My baby hasn't even arrived yet (hurry up final 6 weeks, urgh!), and I can already see I'm going to be a neurotic parent of PFB! I've already purchased a seat liner to put baby in the baby seats in trollies after seeing one looking hard and uncomfortable.

And I can already agree with some of these things being totally normal and acceptable poor baby is doomed Grin

KayTee87 · 21/03/2017 13:58

brightsmoke I still haven't put my 7.5mo pfb in one of the supermarket seats, or on a communal change mat germs

I still sit in the back with him and record all his milk/food & naps Blush

CircleofWillis · 21/03/2017 14:05

I didn't sit in the front seat of the car until DD was 18 months old.
I warmed baby wipes on various body parts before they touched her skin.
On sunny days I pushed the pram in awkward angles so that my shadow fell over her face.
I once asked a restaurant to turn down their music as DD had fallen asleep.
I am most ashamed of asking a woman on a bus not to lean over the pram in case the bus halted suddenly and she fell on my DD - If you are reading the extremely polite and kind but slightly bemused woman who obliged me - I'm sorry!

CircleofWillis · 21/03/2017 14:07

Brightsmoke and Kaytee you have just reminded me - I always pack a blanket to pad out those hard cold shopping trolly seats.

alltouchedout · 21/03/2017 14:10

Ds1 went to the gp more times in his first 18 months of life than ds2 and 3 have been in their entire lives combined.
Ironic really, seeing as ds1 has never had anything seriously wrong with him and both ds2&3 have been taken to A&E by ambulance (blue lights and sirens, the whole shebang) once each.

MamaHanji · 21/03/2017 14:30

Does that work? The sauerkraut and probiotics in breast milk? This is my first breast fed baby and for some stupid reason, I worry my breastmilk might just be like dish water or something!

I'm trying to think of any precious things I did/do with my babies but I can't think of any. That must mean I'm still a nutcake.

Stripeymug · 21/03/2017 14:39

I thought that I had no PFB moments but reading this I so do! the obsessive turning the TV down if anyone is arguing, I still use a baby monitor now and DD is starting school this year.

I found the jabs so hard that I will make DH attend appointments if we get a PSB. When DD changed rooms at Nursery I insisted that I had to hand her over to someone, rather than let her walk in on her own.

I also had issues breast feeding, only lasted 8 weeks and had to use formula, for at least 6 months would only use pre made up Aptimul as that's what I had seen them use in the maternity unit, cost a fortune.

Stripeymug · 21/03/2017 14:47

Oh crap I just remembered another, I used to always smile at new born DD, always. My face hurt but still I plastered a smile on in the middle of the night as I didn't want her to think that I was cross with her for waking me up...I suspect this went on several weeks, I remember catching DH looking at me oddly.

SisyphusDad · 21/03/2017 14:56

Not a real thing, but...

DC swallows a coin.

DC1: go to A&E
DC2: Phone 111
DC3: Deduct from pocket money.
