Knicker bows

FedglingFTB · 17/03/2017 19:11

Not exactly a pressing question, but why must all grown women's basic underwear be covered in these childish little bows?

I've got no issues with a nice set of lacies, but WTF are these doing on my sensible Bridget's? AIBU? They infuriate me, and they're on bras too! Why on earth is the purpose of a bow between my boobs... on a t-shirt bra?

Toadinthehole · 18/03/2017 07:38

The South African flag would look great on a pair of Y fronts.

DevelopingDetritus · 18/03/2017 07:50

It would. Grin

FedglingFTB · 18/03/2017 07:57

They're not pretty though Developing they look cheap and in the way.

The thought of everyone rifling through their smalls drawer to check last night has made me Grin this morning.

Bows for girls makes perfect sense, I'm all for educational knick knocks! But I'm early thirties, I can put my knickers on the right way most days

I avoid them. I'm a grown woman not a small child! Nothing feminine about a bow on an adult to me.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 18/03/2017 08:12

Primark knickers have a little bow on the front AND the back For some reason, that really disturbs me. I can cope with a front bow, but the thought of one on the back makes me feel irrationally nervous.

olliegarchy99 · 18/03/2017 08:24

ecclesiastices
I only discovered that care labels are always on the left about 5 years ago - having had mega-difficulty with ensuring the label (sometimes missing) on garments was correctly at the back.
Then I asked myself - why? is it another right-handed conspiracy but no matter it is extremely helpful if the back label cannot be there to tell you
Re - bows on pants and bras - un-necessary if other labels are present and too girly for my taste (just IMO of course) Smile

CrohnicallyPregnant · 18/03/2017 10:22

But I found a pair of knickers with the care label on the right! (I checked as I hung the laundry out this morning)

Luckily they're DD's so have a handy picture on the front. On a side note, have you ever seen a small child trying to ensure a side label goes on the back when they put their knickers on?

AnoiseAnnoysanOyster · 19/03/2017 07:20

My knickers don't have bows on and I somehow manage to put my them on the right way round everyday.

Aridane · 19/03/2017 17:53

There was a v similar thread a few months ago about bows on thr front of bras

StripyHorse · 19/03/2017 22:44

I ignore them now, but they are pointless and I dislike them.

I made lots of holes in my underwear as a teenager from cutting them off (but not carefully).

OK for little ones who are learning which way round they go (and who don't have a huge difference between front and back like my enormous pants!).

Janey50 · 21/03/2017 01:46

My DD asked me a couple of years ago what the point of bows on knickers were, and I said so you can tell which side is the front, and also to tell the inside from the outside. I always assumed that this was common knowledge. Apparently not!

RiverdaleJughead · 21/03/2017 02:21

Pre-elastic knickers used to tie together in the front in a bow ... it's just a relic

RiverdaleJughead · 21/03/2017 02:22

Also expensive bras don't have bows and neither do my fave pants from GAP

LittleGwyneth · 21/03/2017 13:19

apparently it's a hangover from when they were draw string so tied at the front.

Doglikeafox · 21/03/2017 14:30

I have just looked down at my beautiful M & S bra to discover that not only does it have a bow, but it is lopsided and one half is far larger than the other ConfusedShock
It is also black, on a beautiful lavender coloured lace bra.
I will never unsee it now.
Sad

minipie · 21/03/2017 14:43

I buy Gap basic pants (low rise bikini) they don't have bows. And are the only pants which don't get eaten by my bottom.

Wrcgirl · 21/03/2017 16:35

Half of mine have no bows half do. For girls they help with potty training 😀

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/03/2017 18:21

No bows on today's pants or bra, both Superdry.
Sporty underwear is less bowy, not that I mind the bows.

MrsDoylesladder · 21/03/2017 18:28

Isn't it to help you when half asleep, trying to get dressed at 5.45 for work, then take dd to childminder having both eaten a sensible breakfast. No? Just us, then.

MarklahMarklah · 21/03/2017 20:17

I thought the bow was to indicate the front.
I got some new knickers at Christmas. I hadn't worn them until a few weeks ago. I grabbed them quickly out of the drawer, noticed a bow, and assumed that was the front. Half an hour later, and very uncomfortable, I discovered that they had a bow at the back too. And I was wearing the back at the front!

Closedenv · 21/03/2017 23:00

Please don't moan about the bows, they will stop attaching them and charge us more!

FedglingFTB · 22/03/2017 12:56

Surely no bow = less material + less labour closer?
I would love to see a MN campaign take down the dastardly knicker bow Grin

DS needs some bows on his pants. He still hasn't worked out that if he's got a wedgie up the back and a saggy front, they're the wrong way round.
