To think this is my job, not dh's mates.

Dh has been faffing about what he wants to do for his birthday on Saturday for weeks. Yesterday he finally decided he just wanted to go down the local.

He's a bit disappointed because half the pub had already made plans to go to a boxing match, so once he was asleep I sent out a fb invite to loads of our friends saying I knew it was short notice but if they could make it that's where we'd be.

Then I got the following messages from dh's best mate. Who is a twat

Hi ya
As far as Saturday goes we're on the same page
I thought also that xxx would want people to pop in n see him for his birthday so I did the same
Assuming you would be by his side and so he didn't find out I didn't tell you
Hope that's not too imposing ? But just wanted you guys to turn up and people be out for him
Iv sorted a little cake balloons banners but also put a little gentle twist on his decor too
Really hope you don't mind and glad we're both on the same page or wave length x

Is it me or is that overstepping the boundaries a bit?

OOPs, I missed the backstory bit.

Shoot... yeah that's. Not great

pollymere · 17/03/2017 19:59

Yes, it's annoying. But he's actually running it past you and apologising so he is trying to square it with you. A lesser man would just have turned up with the cake etc and not told you so be grateful for that at least.

Polly85 · 17/03/2017 20:01

he sounds nice, i like him xx maybe should have mentioned it to you, but its no big deal

Polly85 · 17/03/2017 20:07

Read the rest of the thread, changed my mind. He sounds annoying. My DH doesn't have any possessive 'lad' mates, but I would definitely find it super annoying if he did.

lougle · 17/03/2017 20:23

Your DH still knows nothing about this, from anyone? Wow.

Lovelymess · 17/03/2017 20:38

Ah how lovely!! He's a keeper of a friend lol x

CherieBabySpliffUp · 17/03/2017 20:41

Cheeky placemark in case you come back to tell us how it all goes Grin

DoJo · 17/03/2017 21:32

He does sound like a dick, but I can kind of see why he didn't invite you - if your husband told him that he had decided to go down to the pub then it would be reasonable to assume that you and he had discussed it and you would be going with him.
If he had sent you a Facebook invite, that would have been even more weirdly presumptuous, that you needed him to invite you to your own husband's birthday do. That said, it wouldn't have been an issue if he hadn't taken it upon himself to act as 'host' for the night!

DoJo · 17/03/2017 21:32

had not had FFS!

CatThiefKeith · 17/03/2017 21:58

Jux! How the hell are you? I haven't 'seen' you in ages. Grin

I have a screen shot from the other invite group, urging people to buy dh a '40th' birthday card 'because it will be funny' except it won't, because he is 32. Prick on the other hand is 39 this year, so maybe he's feeling old. Dunno. The whole thing is odd but I promise to update tomorrow night. I am guessing the twist on the decor is 40th banners and balloons. I predict that dh will have a Confused face, but not my circus and definitely not my monkeys. I am 43 btw

BorrowedHeart · 17/03/2017 22:02

You clearly don't like him, so I'm guessing anything he does will be bad in your eyes. The crowdfunding story is weird and not sure if like someone like bat either. The birthday invite or rather his response to yours seems fine though and quite a nice thing to do. You didn't have anything planned until last minute so surely you're just as bad? I'd relax knowing it was all taken care of, and if you really like, if it goes wrong you can feel happy about it, I guess.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 17/03/2017 22:23

And another one who doesn't read the thread

Catthief - I'm finding the whole 40th birthday thing really weird, especially as Prick seems to be nearing that event himself - wonder if he's sort of hijacking your DH's birthday to showcase his own, iyswim? Or perhaps he's hoping that your DH or someone else will do the same for him when it's his actual birthday? Either way, it's creepy, weird and really stupid. Would be more "amusing" (or at least understandable!) if your DH were in the latter half of his 30s, but at 32, it's just ridiculous!

ChangelingToday · 18/03/2017 00:27

I find it odd that he organised it without telling you first. I also think dinner first just the two of you sounds good. I hope you have a good night 🎂🍾

TooSleepyToCare · 18/03/2017 01:16

Oooo, creepy "friend".
Placemarking for an update on Sunday.
Good luck Keith hope you manage to keep your cool.

CatThiefKeith · 18/03/2017 02:10

Gah. Will be veryhungover tomorrow. Sleeping with the goats tonight!

CatThiefKeith · 18/03/2017 02:31

Apparently goats don't like sleeping indoors. Sad

The 40th 'joke' is brain blisteringly unfunny. How on earth do you arrange your face when confronted with 'humour' like that?

ohfourfoxache · 18/03/2017 10:02

What a monumental tool Confused

The irrational and hormonal part of me is saying that it's him trying to have a dig at you because you're older than dh. But I am very irrational atm Blush

Greenfingeredfun · 18/03/2017 10:04

He sounds a really top mate Smile

ShootFruit · 18/03/2017 10:32

I hope you had a good laugh at the Prick and when his birthday swings around send in a 50th birthday card, because, you know, it's so hilarious Wink

Bleurghghghgh · 18/03/2017 10:55

I'm sorry OP but I am excited about the impending tales of weirdness from tonight. Happy birthday to your DH!

Mustang27 · 18/03/2017 11:09

It's a lovely gesture but he should have included you in plans, that wasn't so nice.

CatThiefKeith · 18/03/2017 11:18

foxache it had crossed my mind.

I will update live from the pub, it will distract me nicely from Prick trying to edge me out of any conversation with dh.

OP posts:
Mustang27 · 18/03/2017 11:37

Ok I read the whole thread now. I'm with you OP he is a weirdo. What a twat on the age thing it's not even funny, was this guy dropped on his head at some point?

CatThiefKeith · 18/03/2017 11:42

Predictably, he has posted happy 40th birthday on dh's FB wall. By the time we get to the pub the joke will have worn a bit thin I hope. Grin
