So, was watching a cooking show last night that really put me in the mood for a nice rare steak. Told DH I wanted to pick up some big rib-eyes at the supermarket with him.

He told me he would be embarrassed as it is apparently steak and BJ day today (valentines for men) and we will look like twats if we go into Tesco to buy steak today.

We have compromised by agreeing to use the self service till.

Is he BU? I am going to serve with crab with home made mayo and crusty bread as a starter, and baked potatoes with Philly and crispy bacon, and a green salad as a side.

I managed to keep this day from my DP (he's not very social media savvy) but unfortunately this year he caught sight of a meme relating to it so now he is aware, although hasn't mentioned it since.

Maybe I'm just uptight but I resent the notion that partners should feel obliged to give a sexual favour, regardless of whether they want to or not, or that men are entitled to a blow job just because it's a certain day.

The whole idea of it is just a massive turn off for me.

Steak & BJ is made up by some saddo who thinks men needs to think they are macho by having to have manly things.

chippie - your 14:35 comment where you said it was about husbands saying thank you for their valentines gifts. Given the husband gets the steak and the BJ I'm not sure where the thanks for the wife comes in. You've posted several times which is why I specified the time this time.

I think it depends.

In some cultures only one person in a relationship receives a gift/anything. So the other person gives them a thank you gift the next month...

But yes, it may be meant to imply that "all that romantic crap" is something the boyfriend/husband has no interest in and that he therefore deserves a reward... Which is a "bit" eh...

Which was my initial contribution to this thread. Because I've never heard of the macho variant called steak and BJ day.

I'm taking my son out for steak tonight for passing his driving test. What sort of looks am I going to get in Cau?

If my husband seriously asked for a BJ because someone somewhere decided it was BJ day I would be most disappointed in him.

However, if he knows it is today and felt embarrassed about buying a steak incase other people think he is 'celebrating' the day I would not think he was a twat like some earlier posters claimed about OPs husband.

I would feel a bit silly about buying steak today myself because I wouldn't want anyone to think I was the kind of person who goes for steak and BJ day.

I've always known couples to exhange presents on Valentine's Day or go for a meal or whatever, not for it to be exclusively for women.

If DH wasn't on ights tonight we would be doing Steak and BJ Day I prefer it to Valentine's, it speaks to the glutton in me as I would rather a steak than a sad bunch of flowers any day!
