To still go to GP with 18 yo and book her appointments?

Just that really. Really cba to go out today (my only day off!) and DD has doctors. I booked the appointment at her request and she wants me to go. AIBU to say she can go on her own. Now I think about it, it's probably a bit u that I still do those things!

Goodness why does she need you there? To say I've got x wrong with me? Unless She so ill she likely flake out without support. I'd leave her to it. She has to start alone at some point.

Meh my husband still asks me to book his appts and go with him. He hates medical stuff! Up to you i guess but i always go cos i dont want him to avoid going to docs when one day it might be really important.

If you said you'd go then yes, YABU to now tell her you won't. If it really is a problem for you to go I'm the future then tell her this is the last time you'll go with her.

For what it's worth, if any of my DC wanted me to go to a doctors appointment with them i would. It doesn't hurt to be supportive does it, no matter the age.

I don't still do that for my 18 year old. Nor did I for my now 21 year old. I am pretty sure my 14 year old would also now prefer to go on her own.

No, I would send her on her own. She has to get used to it at some point.

When my kids lived at home they had to give permission for me to book appointments once they were 18. I didn't go with them. In fact I don't think I went with them once they were 16, tbh.

At some point she needs to manage this on her own. Yanbu to push her to do this at 18 years old.

It depends what it is for. Some people get very nervous in medical situations and especially if it might be for something she has been worried about. So she might want you there for moral support.

if she wants you there then why not?
accompany her and may be wait in waiting room.

My mum came with me to a hospital appointment recently for moral support. I'm 34!

If it's just for transport then no, YANBU.
if it's for emotional support then YANBU but I'd go just because she needs the support and it's not the whole day.

Think the last time I went with my dd's was when they were about 14.
She needs to learn to do it all herself. What happens when she moves out, or if your not available for any reason?

I still go sometimes with my DD she is 19!!!
She goes on her own most of the time though, since she could drive.
There are some things she wants me there for though.
As a single parent since she was 11 we are now very close and she likes having me there! As long as it's not in my working hours I'll happily go along.

Something worrying or more serious, I can understand her wanting you there too. I'm 23 and my Ma came with me to several appointments lately.

Lol my mum actually books my appointments and comes with me (she waits in reception though, although she does think this is very unfair). I'm in my early 30's and I don't Iive with her but she wants to still do things for me and to be honest I don't have the heart to say no.

I'm perfectly capable/able to sort out my own arrangements etc but she genuinely does insist on doing it but I think it's because she wants to feel that I still need her for everything now that I'm an adult.

I don't mind at all because it makes her happy and that's the most important thing for me, her happiness. If you can go with your daughter then why not? Although you aren't obliged to do so at her age.

DS22 has been quite unwell recently. I've booked appointments for him and come to them with him when he's asked me to.

In fact, thank you for reminding me - I promised him I'd call the surgery and book an appointment for him today, actually. Off to do it now.

The issue here is that your dd wants you to be there.
I would go with her nit also ask her what it is that is worrying her about it and that it's OK to go wo you.

I'm surprised that a 15yo can on their own, I though that at tha gem they still needed an adult to be present.

I have phoned for appointments for dds because our surgery has a triage phone back system so if they are at college/wonk she cant have a call back but i dont go havn't since 15/16 I would if they wanted support , sounds like you have not broke the habit of going yet break it

I think it depends on what the appointment is for but I do believe that she is old enough and able to book and attend the appointment with out your support.

I am now 25 and I think the last time my mum booked and attended a GP appointment with me was when I was 14 years old. Our local surgery was a ten minute walk and easy to get too, I never had a problem with going on my own neither did my brother or sister?

DD often asks either of us to go with her - she's 19. However, I think it's more to do with coughing up 23€ for the appointment than anything else.

My eldest Ds who is 18 went on his own for the first time this week, he hasn't been since he was about 14 when I went with him. I remember the Doctor addressed all the questions to him at this age and my presence was merely one of support. He did ring me after to ask how to get his prescription!!!

I agree with peppers .It's not a question of whether or not 19 year olds in general are old enought to do this by themselves (most are, i'd've thought) but that your DD particularly wants you there.
Why wouldn't you support her if she wants you to and you can?
