or at some point this month?

And I know there is a EU board tucked away somewhere but I'm interested in everyone's views.

I've never had a job with a paid lunch break, certainly. I'm in the office for 42 hours but paid for 37 of them. However in my job I have the freedom to get up and make myself a cuppa on work's time whenever I want and drink it while working.

Me neither. Sitting here now wondering if paid lunch breaks are only for EU nationals rather than UK nationals??

Devilishpyjamas · 13/03/2017 22:30

Pennypickle - I have a severely disabled son who needs 24 hour 2:1 care. A weak economy will make his life very much worse. He is also currently protected by EU laws - I have used them several times in arguments with SS.

My business has died a death thanks to Brexit (I work for universities). So it's already made life worse here.

Repeat my story across the country and we have a rather major problem.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 13/03/2017 22:31

Government guidlines say nothing about getting paid as i posted above

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 13/03/2017 22:32

British laws

Yay for British sovereignty

Cant be bothered to google employment law in spain Grin

Should have put this sodding machine down hours ago

IvorHughJarrs · 13/03/2017 22:32

KillDora Well said.
For too long successive governments have been happy to under-educate the British lower classes then sideline them on the grounds of stupidity/laziness paying them just enough in benefits to keep them bumping along the bottom while importing cheaper, better-educated workers. We need to start educating and training our own young people

Someone posted this upthread
I do know many finance and other professionals who are very confident that Brexit will turn out to be a good thing and that the EU is corrupt and past it; that it has not done anything good for hundreds of thousands of people in Greece or Spain or southern Italy, and that we are well off out of it.

DH and I also know many senior professionals who think this and who think the economic risks of remaining in Europe if the Euro collapses will be greater than the risks of leaving

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 13/03/2017 22:34

The Lords have, as expected, passed the Bill.

TheJWoman · 13/03/2017 22:37

I am extremely worried. I think that the EU is the lesser of two evils - it wasn't perfect, but better than going solo.

I haven't seen or read anything about what this means for us that isn't some kind of conjecture. I have an inkling that the poorest and most vulnerable will shoulder a lot in the coming years now, which includess my DGrandparents, DSIL, DSisters, and MIL. I can only hope that I am wrong and that my anxiety is making mountains of molehills.

PennyPickle · 13/03/2017 22:39

Rufus you are correct. UK Government guidelines do not state people should be paid for breaks. It seems UK nationals accept that.

Devilish I have sympathy for your situation but have no idea why you quoted me there. I have no influence on Parliamentary decisions. I have enough crosses to bear of my own thanks

D1az · 13/03/2017 22:39

Put simply, I'm extremely unhappy.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 13/03/2017 22:52

Who is going to harvest the vegetables and the flowers in Cornwall? Certainly not the Cornish, who voted FOR Brexit.

littlemissangrypants · 13/03/2017 22:59

I am just bloody sad about brexit. I came over from Germany as a 14 year old. I have spent 20 years here and have 2 almost adult kids who are also German as their father didn't want to marry me. Tonight I am so worried about going back to Germany where I have no ties that frankly killing myself seems the only way out. I left Germany as I was raped and abused and the thought of going back is worse than death. My kids don't even speak German and have never held a passport or even left England. It's all just shit but I guess there will be people celebrating tonight

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 13/03/2017 23:02

Sorry littlemiss

Thanks
LauderSyme · 13/03/2017 23:13

I despair. We are going to get much poorer and many of us are pretty darned poor already. Nationalism on the rise across the world can surely only lead to conflict.
I feel like my country is shrinking in so many ways Sad

HelenaDove · 13/03/2017 23:13

littlemiss Thanks

My DM is Italian and neither i or DB speak it.

Zone2mum · 13/03/2017 23:54

The UK govt is making a huge mistake in cutting us off from the single market. It is so depressing. Cameron, Osborne, Corbyn and May have a lot to answer for. Putin must be delighted.

Devilishpyjamas · 14/03/2017 01:39

Pennypickle I quoted you because you asked me to 'please impart what I knew to be true' when I said that of course things could get worse than they are now.

notangelinajolie · 14/03/2017 01:53

I'm almost ready to breathe a great sigh of relief but won't do that until A50 is finally served. Feeling very excited for the future and thinking that the UK will continue to be the best country in the world to live in.

RortyCrankle · 14/03/2017 02:07

So many Chicken Lickens Grin

Exactly Notangelinajolie - I have a bottle of champagne in the fridge for A50 triggering day - it has been a hell of a wait but so close now. Don't let the doom 'n' gloomers spoil the occasion Smile

Egoanono · 14/03/2017 03:28

Those who voted Brexit and are celebrating kicking out good, innocent people who have lived here peacefully for many years, shame on you for celebrating this. It's like bloody nazi Getmany. Have a word with yourselves.

damnedgrubble · 14/03/2017 03:42

Much as I dislike the current government and much as I agree about Cameron et al, the people who voted for Brexit also need to take responsibility as without the referendum result this wouldn't be happening.

Have you ever actually lived and worked anywhere else? Or is this a case of what do they know of England who only England know?

Lalelou · 14/03/2017 06:59

LittleMiss Thanks Thanks

To me this lack of empathy and ability to see the bigger picture is monstrous. Inhumane. Where have these individual left their humanity? Shock Shock

DevelopingDetritus · 14/03/2017 07:06

LouKout · 14/03/2017 07:15

Lake Louise I agree. It makes it worse when the Leavers are gloating and insensitive.
