I was surprised to read that 90% of adults eat pizza at least once a week. AIBU

Im missing out...cant remember when we last had pizza..maybe last year. Now i want some!!

Cantseethewoods · 13/03/2017 09:36

End of the say, it's just a cheese and tomato sandwich, innit?

IAmNotAUserNumber · 13/03/2017 09:41

I remember when Pizza Express was thought of as sophisticated, a cut above Pizza Hut which itself was a cut above Pizza Land. Now it's owned by some monstrous equity capital firm and has the atmosphere to match.
Good pizza is an absolute delight. We have an independent pizza restaurant that makes the best pizza I have ever eaten (and I've eaten pizza in Naples Grin )

IAmNotAUserNumber · 13/03/2017 09:42

When I say "we have" I mean - we have in our locality. I don't actually own it, sadly. Smile

MrsTarzan1 · 13/03/2017 09:43

Probably once a month here

tinytemper66 · 13/03/2017 09:43

I am one of the 10%. May eat pizza once every 3-6 months.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 13/03/2017 09:45

At least once a week.

Normally a freezer job, rarely homemade, occasionally takeaway.

It's quick and easy after my boys get home from Beavers.

MrsRhubarb · 13/03/2017 09:45

I don't think we have it once a week, but it depends on the week. We always did when I was a teenager though as there was one day a week when DM had a meeting and would be home from work much later than usual so we stuck a pizza in the oven ready to eat when she got home. It's so handy to know if everything has gone wrong with the day you can just grab one from the freezer amd be eating in 15 minutes.

Crumbs1 · 13/03/2017 09:45

We don't. But then nearest pizza takeaway is 11miles and if we go out to eat, it would not be for pizza. Ready to cook ones are a bit like chewing cardboard. Naples is the place to eat pizza!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/03/2017 09:50

I could eat the giant chocolate chip cookie from Papa John's once a week . . .but sadly I don't Sad

BarbaraofSeville · 13/03/2017 09:55

We have at least two fabulous ones in our city - one's a bar that does loads of interesting draft beers and fresh pizzas in a wood fired oven and the other is a music venue that also has a pizza counter where you can buy it by the slice.

I've never been to Italy, but the food in Gozo is heavily influenced by the Italians (it is about 80 miles from Scicily) and they have amazing pizza. We had it at least four times in a week when we were on holiday last year - we didn't answer any pizza eating surveys though.

Shadowboy · 13/03/2017 10:00

We don't as my husband is gluten free AND lactose free so unless I hand make them we don't get. To eat them. However, I find pizzas a fab way to get my toddler to eat 3 portions of veg - tomato purée and sliced tomato with sweet corn and peppers with a little bit of low fat cheese. She loves it. She probably has a weekly pizza- usually on a Friday evening.

I really want one now!

Offler · 13/03/2017 10:00

Tuesday night is pizza night in the Offler household! (Pasta on Mondays 😉)

DP and I share a 10" Asda spicy pizza many varieties) children have a small cheese and ham one each, and we have salad and cheesy garlic bread.

BeyondThePage · 13/03/2017 10:02

Don't get the "pizza is bad" thing - if we called it cheese on toast with tomatoes, peppers, onions and chicken does that make it better?

We have ours with a big bowl of salad - does that make it better?

and much wine which does not make it better except to meeeeee

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 13/03/2017 10:03

Well, pizza is very delicious, isn't it?

I like it without cheese but with aubergines on it :)

But once a week is maybe a bit much.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/03/2017 10:04

I've never understood the love for the supermarket pizza counter pizzas - people always say the Asda one is nice and Morrisons and Sainsbury's have a similar offering. The bases are awful and about as far away from real pizza as you can get.

Some frozen pizzas are much nicer, and usually a lot cheaper.

iseenodust · 13/03/2017 10:04

Another fan of the ASDA pick your own toppings counter. They'll even do meat feast one half and veggie the other. Once a week with some salad not a problem IMO.

Goldenhandshake · 13/03/2017 10:05

We don't, eldest DC hates it, DH diabetic and I have IBS so for us pizza is pretty catastrophic, only youngest likes it so we get her a mini one occasionally.

crapfatbanana · 13/03/2017 10:08

We go through phases. Sometimes we have it once a week (always pepperoni as the kids choose), but saying that we haven't had pizza for a few months. I do have cheese on toast a lot though, which is almost the same, and last night I had a garlic and coriander naan with cheese, onions and mushrooms on - so you could say that's a pizza too.

The pizza DH and I always used to have as a Friday treat when we had tiny babies was Pizza Express Sloppy Giuseppe. I loved them.

MaryMorpho · 13/03/2017 10:08

I'm totally baffled over why pizza is meant to be so terrible. We have it once a week, a plain, thin base one from the supermarket that we add lots of veg to. Me and DS share it and save a slice for lunch the next day. It's bread, tomato sauce (good for you), cheese (OK if not excessive), veg (good for you). So no different from a sandwich and people don't seem to have conniptions over those.

Yes eating a whole, massive, thick based, fat-laden, cheese crust takeaway pizza is going to be too many calories - but since you can get pizza in the supermarket and share it, "eating pizza once a week" doesn't really tell us anything about the healthiness of eating habits.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 13/03/2017 10:08

Or just homemade vegetable pizza with a little bit of favlour intense grated cheese.

I don't think pizza is bad?

Sure, my favourite is just dough witht tomatoe sauce, lots of oil and a few aubergines. (not really balanced/healthy)

But I also love it with peppers, sugo, onions, ruccola, mushrooms, and little cheese flakes. DH makes this rather often. I think we could have that more often, tbh. Once a week doesn't seem too bad, does it?

iseenodust · 13/03/2017 10:09

Barbaraof In Asda there is a choice of 4 bases. I tend to go stonebaked. No it's not quite as good as a decent Italian restaurant but certainly not worse than frozen & at £4 for 2 value for money. Definitely more veg/meat as topping.

Potentialpoochowner · 13/03/2017 10:09

Beyond

Yup, it's basically a sandwich isn't it. Not that they're particularly healthy either but people don't clutch their pearls if you say you have a cheese and tomato sandwich once a week.

user1487175389 · 13/03/2017 10:11

Yabu.its such a quick, easy meal (as long as you're not making your own dough) we have it exactly once a week.

Dancergirl · 13/03/2017 10:11

Love pizza, we probably have a takeaway one about once a month.

I'd like to try home-made, is it difficult to make the dough? Can I mix it in the kenwood with the dough hook?
