I was surprised to read that 90% of adults eat pizza at least once a week. AIBU

I'm not surprised. Some families will eat pizza maybe 2 or 3 times - maybe for the kids but then they will all eat it.

Just me and DH here - we ate out at Pizza Express at the weekend- but will probably not have pizza again for some time. If we ever have it at home then it's a home made affair - not a quick freezer to table job.

I don't think it is always unhealthy unless it's the deep pan greasy, cheese laden Pizza Hut type. A wholemeal thin base with lots of veggies on top is reasonable - served with a good half plateful of salad.

malificent7 · 13/03/2017 08:50

Pizza is delicious. Id eat it all the time if it wasnt so fattening!

ShotsFired · 13/03/2017 08:53

I love a dirty Dominoes. And they keep insisting on sending me ridiculous special offers. And I'll eat a whole one to myself too.

PaulaBBB · 13/03/2017 08:54

We have pizza pretty much every Saturday night. A mixture of home made, shop bought and take away. It's pizza and movie night on a Saturday for us, the one night we don't have anything on so just all chill, pizza is easy to make so means I chill too :)

ShotsFired · 13/03/2017 08:54

Hey @malificent, fancy pizza later? We'll split it.

By split it I mean get two and have one each.

mrsm43s · 13/03/2017 09:00

We have it about once a week, it's our quick easy cheap meal for a day we're in a rush because if working hours and kids extra curricular activities. We use bog standard frozen pizza, but I don't think it's that unhealthy, if a little carb heavy. We have one small/ normal size pizza and one garlic baguette split between 4, served with a huge salad. Can be on the table within about 20 mins of getting home, no prep required bar cutting up a salad, and minimal pots to do.

Applebite · 13/03/2017 09:03

I used to. Post GD it's more like once or twice a year Sad (we need a sobbing emoji).

So far DD has been given tiny bits to try and doesn't like it. Or bread or potatoes, come to that. I'm not sure she's really mine!! Grin

Trifleorbust · 13/03/2017 09:06

We eat a vegetarian supermarket pizza about once a week. I am not remotely worried about our consumption of some bread, cheese, tomato, peppers, mushrooms, sweetcorn etc. Not one bit.

gamerwidow · 13/03/2017 09:06

Why is this a problem? Takeaway pizza once a week is excessive but half a shop bought one with some salad once a week isn't going to do any harm.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/03/2017 09:13

PIIIIIIIIIZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

HenniePennie · 13/03/2017 09:14

I am one of that 90% - although Pizza Express in Teddington needs to up its ante as recently it's been terrible.

user1484394242 · 13/03/2017 09:15

We started having pizza once a week recently. The kids have genius gluten free base. I add carrots (rainbow if available), corguette, cauliflower, brocolli and beetroot to their tomato paste. 1 has Lactofree cheese, the other dairy/soya free (violife) cheese.

The base for DH and me is grated carrots (rainbow) and corguette with egg and a spoon of coconut oil. Same tomato paste as kids then as much vege as we can pile on top. And then cheese.

We try to eat a rainbow everyday

90% eat pizza at least once a week
Rafflesway · 13/03/2017 09:16

Ugh! Definitely part of the 10% here. Looks like vomit on a pastry base and smells even worse. 🤧(world's fussiest eater here!)

BikeRunSki · 13/03/2017 09:17

We do, usually on Fridays after a long week. Hangover from when either DH or I was travelling to see each other on Friday evenings. Now it's nice not to have to cook once a week.

stevie69 · 13/03/2017 09:17

Well, I'm with the 10% . I love pizza but I also love having a body to die for Blush ......... so it's an occasional treat.

Lots of protein, lots of vegetables, carbs on training days.

However .......it's birthday week, so I might just treat myself Smile

Not so much here - takeaways are expensive and a rip off and the supermarket ones are a bit meh. Its okay for a quick meal, if we are out and i dont want to cook much when we get home, but that is once every few months if that really. Never go out to eat at a chain pizza place anymore.

smileygrapefruit · 13/03/2017 09:23

My 1 and 3 year olds have pizza probably once a week. Always makes me laugh when people think pizza is so unhealthy...I bet most of those would happily feed a cheese and tomato sandwich! It's literally the same thing, just cooked (when I make them with just blended tin tomatoes, more sugar if shop bought but no harm once a week!)

BarbaraofSeville · 13/03/2017 09:23

Pizza once a week is fine but preferably it should be a small amount with salad, rather than a whole large and/or deep pan takeaway pizza.

Different people's idea of pizza will be very different from a health perspective. Some people will have half a smallish frozen pizza with salad and have a meal that is about 500 calories, while others will have a whole large takeaway pizza, which could be over 2000.

There's also the processed meat aspect, which is another health concern. I wanted to buy a pizza in the supermarket the other day, but nearly all of them that weren't plain cheese and tomato were laden with pepperoni or other processed meat.

I love pizza but I don't like chicken on pizza and I don't like any pepperoni or similar processed meat. A bit of ham is OK, but I generally like either tuna, onion and olives or mederteranen veg like peppers, onions, mushrooms and olives.

I wasn't in the mood to start cutting up veg to put on a plain one so didn't bother in the end.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 13/03/2017 09:23

I don't know whether or not to be surprised.
We don't have it once a week, more like once a month, because also GF and rather than buy the GF bases, I make the dough. I also can't eat tomato so have to make my own sauce - but my family LOVE pizza night, so yes, it's usually at least once a month.

bringonyourwreckingball · 13/03/2017 09:24

Probably once a month in our house. Pizza and a film on a Saturday night. Dcs have it once in a 3 week school dinners cycle I think. Maybe twice. We make our own if the kids have friends over

RachelRagged · 13/03/2017 09:25

10% here too .. Not overkeen and if I DO have a slice its usually my sons and meat feast .

AnneTwacky · 13/03/2017 09:25

Where's the statistic from?

I wouldn't give it too much weight. Do love pizza though. 🍕😋

RachelRagged · 13/03/2017 09:26

User , your pizza looks lovely though . I'd have a slice of that

AuntieStella · 13/03/2017 09:26

We used to have pizza probably weekly (certainly frequently).

That was at the time when I was persistently overweight.

It's probably monthly these days.

There's an independent pizzeria near us, where at least some of the staff are Italian, and we get them from there.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 13/03/2017 09:26

I really want pizza now.
