I was surprised to read that 90% of adults eat pizza at least once a week. AIBU

Saturday night is pizza night here too. Except for ds who, inexplicably, doesn't seem to like it.

*Goodfellas do a decent gluten free pizza. Our local Tesco sells it :)

WorraLiberty · 12/03/2017 23:42

Apologies to the sleeping husbands Grin

Silentplikebath · 12/03/2017 23:44

I'm in the 90% who eat it every week. I suspect most of those who eat pizza regularly wouldn't dream of making it themselves otherwise supermarkets wouldn't have so many shelves of pizza in stock and there would be fewer takeaways. It's never even occurred to me to make a pizza!

80sMum · 12/03/2017 23:45

YANBU to be surprised, OP. I am equally as surprised that so many people eat it so frequently.

I suppose because I don't eat pizza very often (maybe 6 or 7 times a year) I don't stop to think that other people do!

dowhatnow · 12/03/2017 23:46

Not that often. I don't see it as a proper meal, I see it as a sitting in front of the telly Saturday night tea, or just lunch. But I feel a bit of guilt that I've not fed the family a decent meal.

mysteryfairy · 12/03/2017 23:46

There is no single evening meal I eat once every week and I'm not even an adventurous eater. Must be very predictable in a lot of households....

Bantanddec · 12/03/2017 23:46

Tbf I've eaten it twice today

Lynnm63 · 12/03/2017 23:48

I guess we're in the 10%. Adults probably have pizza once a month, dc maybe once a fortnight on average, generally shop bought as it's a quick dinner if I'm feeling vile. I've never bought a delivered one as the thought of paying £15 for glorified cheese on toast would make me very sad.

OneSecondAfter · 12/03/2017 23:50

What's your source, OP?

I don't think it's surprising that many people eat it at least once a week. It's bloody delicious, for one thing. And it's not like we don't eat lots of other food multiple times per week (most people have the same breakfast and lunch almost every day, for example).

90% is pretty high though. I'd have guessed around 75%.

Lynnm63 · 12/03/2017 23:51

My dc like pizza quesadilla basically tortillas, tomato sauce, herbs and cheese in a frying pan. Super quick and cheap. Nutrition wise no worst than a cheese sandwich.

MrsMulder · 12/03/2017 23:51

We have pizza Fridays because I want an easy tea on a Friday. Used to be fish fingers until ds started school and they give them fish for lunch, therefore ruining my easy tea

OneSecondAfter · 12/03/2017 23:52

If you realised how much better home-made pizza is than a crappy supermarket job, you'd probably eat it 3 or 4 times a week Grin

PrimalLass · 12/03/2017 23:53

You've got gluten free people, coeliacs

Who can eat gf pizza. We either make them (normally use wraps for speed but am going to try that yogurt recipe - thanks) or the shop-bought are getting better.

nokidshere · 12/03/2017 23:56

I don't like pizza but my teenage son eats it more than once a week! He assures me that it covers all the food groups so is perfectly healthy Grin

KickAssAngel · 13/03/2017 00:00

We're probably just under that. about 50% of it home made.

but we live in the US where pizza is given out at every kids thing - even healthy kids activities quite often. DD only eats it without sauce, so constantly sits and watches other kids eating stuff while she's hungry.

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/03/2017 00:12

I don't like pizza.

gluteustothemaximus · 13/03/2017 00:17

Always homemade, always fri or sat night is pizza night. Knocks the spots of Pizza Hut and pizza express and costs £4 to feed all 5 of us a big pizza each.

Took me a while, but finally mastered the art of an awesome pizza 🍕

nicetoseeyoutoseeyounice · 13/03/2017 00:20

We have homemade pizza once a week! Randomly bought Sainsbury's pizza this week and kids wouldn't touch it, only like my home made one. Who doesn't love bread and cheese?!

AYankinSpanx · 13/03/2017 00:27

Same here. A decent pizza stone, a blindingly hot oven and a pizza peel were key for me. Jeff Varasano is my pizza guru - he has a great website that I'm somehow incapable of linking to.

I'm a pretty good cook, and always dismissed pizza as 'boring' until I tried to make it. Then I became really determined to learn how to get it right!

limitedperiodonly · 13/03/2017 08:31

Everything is all right on Mumsnet as long as you make it from scratch with wholemeal flour and let the children join in the fun.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/03/2017 08:36

Pizza made with wholemeal flour sounds revolting.

ThornyBird · 13/03/2017 08:43

whatwould Wednesday is pasta night Grin

mystery this is a recent development for us. Yes it is dull and repetitive but it's easier than going through the who likes what game with the 4 dc daily Grin

And yes we do buy pizzas but not often because they put green on and then a couple of dc won't touch them. It's not difficult to bing the ingredients in a bread maker, roll it out, splat a thing of pasata on and cover in cheese. It doesn't make it better or worse, just more likely to be eaten Wink

RueDeDay · 13/03/2017 08:44

We have it once a week. Pizza and movie Sundays. All home made from scratch including base and sauce.

A1Sharon · 13/03/2017 08:48

We were in Mallorca last summer and there is a restaurant right beside the water in Porto Pollensa. Kids loved the notion of eating right by the sea, so we got a table. Most of us ordered pizza.
It was whole meal and not enjoyable. It just doesn't work IMO.
We have pizza once a week I guess, sometimes homemade or else from Little Wing, which is in NI and make the best pizzas.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 13/03/2017 08:48

I make it from scratch (but using a bread maker) once a month or so. And my children did used to enjoy adding their own toppings. Have bought plenty of supermarket pizzas in the past but trying to avoid over-processed foods these days. And homemade is much nicer.
