Pantene - It's PAN-TEN surely? Not PAN-TEEN as per this glam old ad.

It's Pan-teen in Australia too.

supercue · 12/03/2017 22:27

Well the woman who works for L'Occitane and flogs it on QVC pronounces it Loxitan.

ememem84 · 12/03/2017 22:28

I googled loccitane. It's lox-se-tahn. So not at all how I thought.

There's more than one way to pronounce Primark? Shock

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/03/2017 22:30

Aldi can be pronounced either Ol-di or Al-di. I asked. I don't get out muchGrin.

I hate Preeeeeemark for Primark.
Ive only ever pantene to pronounced Pan-ten. Panteen sounds a bit forced.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/03/2017 22:30

Ooh strike out fail

ClarePearBear · 12/03/2017 22:31

Miele is supposed to be pronounced "mee-luh"

EastMidsMummy · 12/03/2017 22:31

Apparently, Primark in Ireland was known as Pree-mark.

FourToTheFloor · 12/03/2017 22:34

I was slightly ridiculed when I called it panteen as it is known in Aus. Panten sounds like a brand for pantyliners to me.

ConfidentlyUnhinged · 12/03/2017 22:34

Still is known as preemark. Also a great country style song over here - leedel, lydel, whatever the fuck it's called, re Lidl.

FourToTheFloor · 12/03/2017 22:35

Primark in Ireland is called Dunnes isn't it?

Tiredbutfuckingfine · 12/03/2017 22:36

Cilit bang has been ruined forever for me now

Robstersgirl · 12/03/2017 22:37

PRY-MARK or Pry-Marni as we call it.

OP posts:
MerryMarigold · 12/03/2017 22:38

I've only ever heard lidl pronounced lid-l like a saucepan lid with a phonic 'l' at the end.

Blossomdeary · 12/03/2017 22:39

And as for Karcher - I can't insert the correct accent, but the advert calls it karker, when it should be kaircher (ch as in loch).

JaneEyre70 · 12/03/2017 22:41

And is it eye-key-ah or ee-kay-ah for IKEA??! Such possibilities...........

RockyBird · 12/03/2017 22:42

Pree-Mark in Scotland

supercue · 12/03/2017 22:44

And Ikea is now Ick eee aah.

smallplainblonde · 12/03/2017 22:47

Primark is called Penneys in Ireland. Dunne's Stores is a different shop.

ScarletForYa · 12/03/2017 22:47

Primark in Ireland is called Dunnes isn't it?

No, it's called Penneys. Dunnes is more like an Irish M&S. Not as posh, but something like it.

Littledrummergirl · 12/03/2017 22:47

Miele was me-lay when I went to their site in Oxford many years ago to be trained on their products. That's how the training staff pronounced it anyway.

supercue · 12/03/2017 22:50

Nessawls was the chocolate of my childhood, would have had no clue what Nestlay was.

April241 · 12/03/2017 22:51

Pantene - PanTen
Primark - Preemark
Lidl - Lidil
Aldi - eh... Aldi Grin

Near Glasgow.

treaclesoda · 12/03/2017 22:55

Primark is definitely Pree-mark in N Ireland. They used to advertise on TV when i was little and it was always Pree-mark.

Dunnes OTOH has gone very upmarket these days. All that Carolyn Donnelly and Paul Costello stuff costs far more than M&S. Smile

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 12/03/2017 22:55

I try to skip the adverts, but recently I saw one for Ickear (IKEA). Everyone I know pronounces it Eyekear.

And there's the other Scandi furniture shop, JYSK. I assumed it was therefore pronounced Jisk, but according to the instore radio it's Jay Why Ess Kay.
