What the hell is this 'present' from work colleagues? (Pic included)

My very lovely work colleagues got me a beautiful present for my birthday today (happy birthday to me). It was a voucher for John Lewis that they had all clubbed together to get.

They also handed me a present and told me it was a joke and said I had to open it at home. And that I could chuck it away once opened, they didn't need it back. All my work colleagues were smiling to themselves.

Expecting a massive chocolate penis or something equally immature I opened it and found this.

It looks to me like this is a section of a handheld vacuum cleaner. I don't get the joke at all! 🤔

I'm not messy or particularly clean. It's been used they've not given me a new one.

They're a great bunch and we're all really close so it won't have been meant as nasty.

They messaged me on group chat and won't tell me what the joke is until tomorrow morning. So I thought I'd come to mumsnet to see if you can work it out.

What the hell is this, and what's the joke?

Way too much effort on their part though!

Ah I see now. Grin

SugarBlossom92 · 10/03/2017 18:01

There is a phrase 'rug muncher' or 'carpet muncher' which is supposed to be slang for a lesbian I wonder if that is what the joke is I always thought that phrase was supposed to be offensive though.

Aroseforemily · 10/03/2017 18:02

Solved. What's my prize for guessing? Grin

Northend77 · 10/03/2017 18:02

That's an amazing gift - thought and humour, I'd have loved it (and then been slightly embarrassed at being told I needed a filter!!!)

HamletsSister · 10/03/2017 18:02

I don't get it.....

ThoraGruntwhistle · 10/03/2017 18:03

Okay, well it's good you found it funny and you think they're right with their joke. I think I would've been quite insulted tbh Confused

SugarBlossom92 · 10/03/2017 18:03

Sorry just realised my comment was abit late lol

Ha, you were right!

justanotheryoungmother · 10/03/2017 18:05

I don't know but please let us know when you find out!Grin

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 10/03/2017 18:05

Ha! What's the little drawing, I can't make it out?

I'm also excited because that's my first sighting of a real live "hella" in the wild. I thought it was only ever seen in captivity on American TV shows set in California.

Happy birthday OP, and thanks for the entertainment Cake

Jux · 10/03/2017 18:05

Happy birthday!

Flisstizzy · 10/03/2017 18:06

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis · 10/03/2017 18:07

They love me! Idolise me almost. But I don't blame them, I'm amazing.

Bizarre tbh, or am I the only one that thinks so? Maybe an 'in joke' that we don't get OP. How do you feel about it?

FruSkogKattOla · 10/03/2017 18:15

I can't make out the note either. Is it just a note to say that they've bought you a present of a Dyson which hasn't arrived yet? Have you been complaining about having a rubbish vacuum cleaner?!

Serialweightwatcher · 10/03/2017 18:15

Please someone explain - I don't understand Confused

FoofFighter · 10/03/2017 18:15

I can't be the only one finding this rather passive aggressive can I? Sad I wouldn't be finding this amusing, I'd be rather hurt if it were me.

(Happy birthday OP!)

LuluJakey1 · 10/03/2017 18:16

What does 'hella' mean?

MangosAndPapayas · 10/03/2017 18:17

I don't think it's very nice and I'm not surprised they added the "we love you" bit. It's a poor attempt to save a not very nice comment.

I'm sure they think they are very funny.

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis · 10/03/2017 18:18

It's great.

It means I have no filter (on other words I say whatever is in my head without thinking).

They love me for it though...honest!
