What the hell is this 'present' from work colleagues? (Pic included)

My very lovely work colleagues got me a beautiful present for my birthday today (happy birthday to me). It was a voucher for John Lewis that they had all clubbed together to get.

They also handed me a present and told me it was a joke and said I had to open it at home. And that I could chuck it away once opened, they didn't need it back. All my work colleagues were smiling to themselves.

Expecting a massive chocolate penis or something equally immature I opened it and found this.

It looks to me like this is a section of a handheld vacuum cleaner. I don't get the joke at all! 🤔

I'm not messy or particularly clean. It's been used they've not given me a new one.

They're a great bunch and we're all really close so it won't have been meant as nasty.

They messaged me on group chat and won't tell me what the joke is until tomorrow morning. So I thought I'd come to mumsnet to see if you can work it out.

What the hell is this, and what's the joke?

Very strange! placemarking for the answer

PavlovianLunge · 10/03/2017 17:26

As much as I dislike place-marking...

Foxysoxy01 · 10/03/2017 17:27

As a previous poster said I reckon it's to do with not having a filter.

BoneyBackJefferson · 10/03/2017 17:27

"await further instructions"

now I'm curious :)

DramaInPyjamas · 10/03/2017 17:27

They have hired you one of those nudie men cleaners Confused

LoriD · 10/03/2017 17:27

Mmm interesting

alltogethernow123 · 10/03/2017 17:28

Is it alluding to you being a lesbian? Carpet muncher sprung to mind Blush sorry that's horrible

horizontilting · 10/03/2017 17:28

Is there something hidden inside the leftover dust?

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis · 10/03/2017 17:28

I can't pull it apart! But there's nothing hidden inside anyway.

I'm sort of thinking well if a joke's this hard to fathom then it can't actually be that funny. But then again they've gone to a fair bit of time and trouble - they obviously care about you a lot. I'm really intrigued.

Looneytune253 · 10/03/2017 17:29

It contains the filter so im guessing its got something to do with your (lack of) filter? Try opening it up, it may have a clue inside.

msrisotto · 10/03/2017 17:29

They've put far too much thought into this me? placemarking? never

ineedamoreadultieradult · 10/03/2017 17:29

Im guessing its to do with having no filter.

SquatBetty · 10/03/2017 17:31

It's definitely part of a cordless Dyson - we've got one but in a different colour way

Finola1step · 10/03/2017 17:31

Blatant place marking.

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis · 10/03/2017 17:31

Okay asking now.

Either I'm a sucker

I have no filter

It's to do with me being clean

To do with me being dirty

Or I'm a carpet muncher 😳

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis · 10/03/2017 17:32

I suspect they thought I'd get it much quicker than I have done!

OP posts:
Glitteryfrog · 10/03/2017 17:32

It's missing the battery and handle?
Wierd!

SuperFlyHigh · 10/03/2017 17:32

I'd pull it apart as they say...

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis · 10/03/2017 17:35

I can't. It's stuck too much.

MsJuniper · 10/03/2017 17:36

Do you think the joke is just that they wanted you to puzzle over it? There's no actual meaning?

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 10/03/2017 17:36

Are they teasing you with these clues knowing you'll try to follow them...i.e. is it part of the "sucker" thing and they know they can keep you hanging on for ages because you're gullible? Have you got a name for being someone who believes whatever you're told?

Mummysh0rtlegs · 10/03/2017 17:36

if you press down the red bit the bottom should open of the canister and when you press it down again you should be able to pull off the plastic canister at the same time?

bloodyteenagers · 10/03/2017 17:36

If they don't want it back whack it with a hammer.

Whatthebloodyhellisthiis · 10/03/2017 17:36

I hope not msjuniper
