Inspired by another thread.

WIBU to ask what's the rudest/cheekiest thing that's ever happened to you e.g. In a supermarket, in the cinema etc.
How did you respond?

In Bangkok years ago wandering round the market and one of the traders was selling knock off designer tshirts. She shouted really loudly at me Miss, miss, l do big sizes for you! Ha l was a size 12.....wish l was as "big" as that now lol!!

Perdyboo · 11/03/2017 21:09

Trying on wedding dresses the petite assistant after lacing (nearly 6ft 16/18 running in those days) me into an effort totally not me (you have to try a few, right?) decided it was appropriate to comment that most people like to lose weight before their wedding....no I didn't return there!!

When we first got together, comments from women in hubby'scircle about whatever does he see in you...

And I can totally identify with comments from previous posters having been run into by people with shopping trolleys for not getting out the way because I wear hearing aids and can't hear behind me. DS2 aged yelling back at a man in a shop because he was shouting at us but I didn't know til a shop assistant came over to help :(

The one that makes me chuckle though is in the summer husband was getting all irate with shop staff in France and explained to me later they had been very rude about me. DS1 then felt the need to fess up that when he had "helped" me getting served (because who knows that you can't lip read French til you try?!?) when I was stood completely blankly in front of an assistant after giving her my best practised phrases, he had employed his best teenage French to apologise for his Mother who is not rude but particularly stupid. Wasn't until hubby was irate with them discussing this son looked up the word for deaf. Cheers son!!!

My most recent cheeky/naughty moment happened at work, I'm a receptionist at a Drs surgery, and someone had walked past the window and threw a pie inside!!! It landed right on the Drs desk right inbetween the Dr and the patient!!! The little f*ers! GrinHmm

Got on a bus once with my dd's. Asked how much it was for one adult and two dc. Driver said 'I don't know, I'm not a taxi driver'. I replied 'no you are a bus driver, you need to tell me how much the fare is'. At this point he stood up in his seat and started screaming in my face 'I am not a fucking taxi driver, it's not my job to know'

So I said well I can't pay then, walked down the bus with my kids and sat down. Several people looked at me and gave me sympathetic smiles but no one said anything to the driver (don't blame them, he was clearly deranged)

Two stops later an inspector got on. He got to me and I said, I don't have a ticket because the driver refused to tell me the fare. I am happy to pay but can't unless I know how much it is. At this point the driver got out of his seat, rampages down the bus and starts jabbing his finger at me and screaming at me again calling me a fucking liar and that I had threatened him.

Another inspector got on and the two of them manhandled him off the bus. The inspector got back on and apologised to me. Told me the fare was free. Also gave me the drivers details, the phone number of customer services and his details. Told me to phone up and complain as soon as possible.

I did and the driver was fired. I have never been on the receiving end of such unwarranted abuse.

I have never posted on this site but felt compelled to do so on this thread. Once a grown man pulled and actually ripped my shirt commenting on my 'lovely pair' another time a stranger shouted across the street 'how much did they cost you' gesturing to my boobs. Both times I was 14 and a b/c cup at best.

Another time I was walking down the street toward a group of builders.. one was on his phone and giving directions 'left there, then you'll see a fat girl walking down the road' and he gestured to me and they laughed I could've crawled up and died. I was 17 and about 12st having just lost a good 2st. Mortified. Blush

Mynestisfullofempty · 11/03/2017 21:57

MycatsaPirate That's incredibly shocking! There can be years between bus journeys for me, so I would have no idea of the fare. I'm astounded that a bus driver would consider that it's not his or hers job to know the fare!

bunnylove99 · 11/03/2017 22:05

As a self conscious 14 year old I had an older lady in my town ask me what had happened to me, as I 'used to be such a slim wee girl' . I was mortified. Later, as a 19 year old I had a guy I worked with comment 'you will never be thin I don't know why you are even bothering to diet' for the record, the biggest I've ever been in my life is 9 1/2 stone and a size 12.

Mags1234 · 11/03/2017 22:30

I had put I a little bit of weight and as I'm only 5ft 1". I looked quite porky from the front but didn't bother me until I heard a mum say to her child in a supermarket " be careful that lady is having a baby". Mortified - lost weight quickly unlike my DH when a child said to his mother "look it's the man from Thomas the tank engine the fat controller "............

Aspiringcatlady · 11/03/2017 22:33

I work in retail and someone called me "a stuck up c*nt who thought I was above everyone else"

I had politely asked him if he could avoid elbowing me in the ribs while I put the reductions on the shelf.
He is banned now Grin

ohmygodyouguys · 11/03/2017 22:34

Huge round of applause for Our Kid!!

Sara107 · 11/03/2017 22:36

I bumped into our ex neighbour in town while on maternity leave. She's an Indian lady and after greeting each other, and introducing the baby she said 'I wasn't sure it was you, I can't believe how fat you are, so big! Your face, so bloated! You were always so small, so slim - now look at you, I can't believe it!'… All of this was accompanied by lots of hand / arm gestures graphically describing the big, bloatedness of me. I tried really hard to keep a big friendly smile on my face but I felt very deflated. I knew exactly how big I was and didn't really need it spelled out in mime on the market Square.

lemonchello · 11/03/2017 22:36

I booked an appointment at the dentist for myself and my husband. We went in together. I was examined first, all good then my husband, he needed a filling. I felt quite smug. Then the dentist asked my husband if he had been grinding his teeth and snoring to which my husband replied no, but she does! It was out of character really and I was taken aback that he had said that. The dentist then began a very long detailed lecture about how other peoples snoring affects how others sleep and how if I was to lose weight I wouldn't snore anymore. The dental nurse looked shocked and my husband laughed nervously. I just felt myself sink into a deep dark hole wondering how on earth this conversation had taken place. My embarrassment soon turned to anger on the way home and I've found a new less judgemental dentist. Still considering whether to keep to husband!

This thread really reminds me of the Everyday Sexism Project.

The Everyday Sexism Project exists to catalogue instances of sexism experienced on a day to day basis. They might be serious or minor, outrageously offensive or so niggling and normalised that you don’t even feel able to protest. Say as much or as little as you like, use your real name or a pseudonym – it’s up to you. By sharing your story you’re showing the world that sexism does exist, it is faced by women everyday and it is a valid problem to discuss.

facedontfit · 11/03/2017 22:46

All the people in my antenatal group (had kept in touch, met up weekly) were going to France for three weeks in their camper vans. We weren't invited. ☹️ I did get a phone call though asking if I would lend our camper, to someone we didn't know, so they could go to France too!

The person bitch who phoned to ask is a deputy headteacher in a senior school! Let's hope she shows better judgement/empathy in her work environment.

Fletchasaurus · 11/03/2017 22:47

My SIL has always been awful to me, but saying to my DH that I was a fat bitch and she wished he had never married me was lovely as was her comment that my parents had raised a psycho and I would hurt my children. She is such a joy (I haven't spoken to her in 2 years).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/03/2017 22:52

Pirate. I'd have bit the cunt's finger off. Had he pointed at me. That's one thing I do not like pointing.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/03/2017 22:54

Fletch. It Makes me wonder Did she fancy her brother or something.
Is that why she wished he'd never married you.

Fletchasaurus · 11/03/2017 23:03

Spider, she ws always incredibly controlling as his older sister. It took him years to stand up to her and his family were awful when he did. He does see her but thankfully it is a bit more limited and he tries not to let them discuss me. I try and stay out of it now, but it still riles me! And I miss her son (DH's nephew) Sad

mylittlephoney · 11/03/2017 23:08

Wow people are cunts. It will never change I'm afraid.
My story is I was in town with my friend who is a paraplegic with stunted growth. A man walked past us and spat at my friend in her wheelchair and said "you should have been put down at birth"
I punched the bastard got arrested and let off with a caution because the police said they would have done the same.
I hope their is a special place in hell for him.
My friend died last September she had dignity and grace till the end.

RoboticSealpup · 11/03/2017 23:12

When I was about fourteen, my dad told me:

"You're not especially pretty nor especially ugly. You're not particularly intelligent nor particularly stupid. You're not someone that other people notice, you don't stand out."

Polarbearflavour · 11/03/2017 23:16

My mum once said to a teenage me "you look so much prettier now your acne has cleared up."

lozster · 11/03/2017 23:22

Called a f'ing white whore by a random non-white bloke I passed in the street. Called a bourgeois bitch by a random bloke as I exited the Oxbridge college I was at. Isn't life 'interesting'? I have some more groping tales but I class them as sexual assault not just 'rude'.

Comedyusername · 11/03/2017 23:28

I was walking home from the pub late at night with my husband. Group of teenage girls hanging around said "I wouldn't fuck him", gesturing to me. Didn't know whether to be most offended by them mistaking me for a man, or that they didn't fancy me. Of course husband thought it was hysterical Grin

neverumind · 11/03/2017 23:35

Think it's really shocking & depressing that we're experiencing this shite. Just to tip the balance some of mine from other women accusing me of having an eating disorder & being a fitness freak( I'm not & naturally slim/not skinny) but told I need to eat more cos I'm not eating the biscuits/chocs passed around, female colleague said to me have u been to a clinic?(I was wearing makeup & looker a bit fresher) also said we're nearly the same age aren't we-she's retiring this year & im 20 yrs younger wtf?

kyph09 · 11/03/2017 23:42

I was queuing in a shop at the hospital where I was a patient having chemo and could hear a snotty woman and her even snottier daughter in front of me making fun of my head scarf. I also had an agency nurse tell me I was stupid and irresponsible for getting pregnant when I had cancer. I corrected her that I had actually got cancer half way through my pregnancy. Looking back I can't believe I didn't confront these people but I suppose I had a lot more to worry about than other people's ignorance.
