I've never been abroad, things have just gotten better financially, it's meant booking a few holidays.. I wondered of anyone would care to share what their favourite destination has been?

  1. Aghios Gordios, Corfu. Just dh and I on our (16 years late!) Honeymoon. A week in a villa almost right on the beach....sigh

Universal in Florida Grin. I have been all over but that's the place where my children and I are utterly carefree and happy. We love it there.

Less commercial is Clearwater on the gulf coast of Florida and the beach leading to Caladesi Island State Park. It's miles long, white, windswept and almost deserted, it's how you dream beaches should be but they rarely are. You see pelicans and big shadows in the water that could be anything. Would move there tomorrow if I could.

Florida, every year! The weather, the theme parks, the shopping, the food, everything about it i love. Normally get a villa, well worth the money imo

Greenteandchives · 09/03/2017 15:19

Chile. It has everything. From deserts, to fjords, to glaciers, beautiful cities and nice people. And penguins.

hungryhippo90 · 09/03/2017 15:32

Museum of curry- I believe it's Tulum we are going to! Grand Bahia principe Tulum! As long as I don't mention the dates I hope that detail isn't too outing!!

I'm hoping to get an excursion to the ruins.

Rather excited!

I'm surprised how much California has come up although I haven't been so might be missing a trick. I'm shocked the australia has not come up much. Thought it would come up more. Surprised how much Iceland has popped up. I thought it was OK but it didn't rock my world. I'd class it the same as any other Scandinavian country. I've only been to Sweden though!

I was lucky enough to work and live in Bermuda for a year, loved it. Very British and fab beaches!

I also worked in the Maldives and had the best 6 months of my life.

I went to santorini in 2015 with my DFiance - our first holiday together - truly utterly beautiful.

laurzj82 · 09/03/2017 15:37

Maldives. Sadly these days I'd have to sell a kidney to return Sad

Have to say since having DD I love Haven holidays! Blush

Excited to see so many recommendations for the Maldives - DH and I are off there on Saturday for 5 days as a babymoon :) Luckily living in Dubai means it's only a 4 hour flight away.

Incidentally, I know DH only organised this trip because of me; he's really not into the idea of beachy island-type holidays... anyone else's significant other also not enamoured by the idea of beach holidays? Is it something we ladies like the idea of more than men do?!

Ilovehamabeads · 09/03/2017 15:46

The Maldives was beautiful. A real Paradise. But 2 weeks was too long for me, I realised that year that I need more than a beach and a reef to keep me happy!
Tobago and Grenada in the Caribbean are both lovely islands. Gorgeous scenery, deserted beaches and not completely overrun with tourists and huge resorts.
Closer to home the Greek islands are beautiful. Paxos was a favourite. Very quiet, crystal clear sea.

IadoreEfteling · 09/03/2017 15:47

For adventure - Africa -

For easy relaxing enjoyment - Mallorca

With DC but lovely for adults too - Efteling Grin

In terms of my favourite holiday destinations... as a child I loved going to Barbados. Favourite city break was Tokyo (although incredibly expensive) it's just such a surreal place. Closer to the UK, I like Paris, Monaco, Vienna.

And I guess you can count Dubai/Abu Dhabi/Ras Al Khaimah (all in UAE), since I came here on holiday 6 years ago and never left...!

ineedwine99 · 09/03/2017 15:50

Hawaii/New Zealand and Seychelles were my best holidays. Stunning places and in terms of Hawaii and NZ loads to do

ineedwine99 · 09/03/2017 15:54

Sorry to hijack OP but can anyone make any Caribbean recommendations? We want a nice all inc resort with kids club, somewhere with good walking/snorkelling, somewhere scenic. Considering BVI's/ St Lucia (bit concerned re crime)

Overland expedition and camping in the wilds of East Africa. We went through Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. Went to the rift valley, jungles and white water rafting (grade 5) on the white Nile.
Amazing experience and very basic but it was magical. The only time we were worried was when hyenas went through our campsite at night.
And I hated having the job of keeping the baboons away from the tents when everyone went on Safari.

imonaplane · 09/03/2017 16:34

Florida is my favourite place - so much more than theme parks. The Gulf Coast is just stunning, weather lovely and it's not too expensive when you are there, even with the low dollar rate. Yellowstone National Park is spectacular. California, Maryland, Washington DC and Cape Cod are all wonderful places to visit. I loved Hong Kong but have not been for many years. Seychelles are also beautiful if you are not scared of spiders!

ErneyAndAgnes · 09/03/2017 16:38

Cornwall! Honestly, it doesn't break the bank (but can if you want it to) and on a nice day on a good beach it isn't hard to mistake it for the Caribbean. Just a shame you can't rely on the weather.

Elefant1 · 09/03/2017 16:44

Skiathos, hoping to go back for a third time in June.

Knowwhatimeanjellybean · 09/03/2017 16:49

Santorini is paradise

user1483387154 · 09/03/2017 16:51

Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt with day trips to Cairo and Alexandria

motheroftwoboys · 09/03/2017 16:53

Depends. Holidays can be fab but very different. Best holiday rental - Gaucin in Andalucía. Best citybreak New York. Best all inclusive Bahia Principe Sian Kaan in Mexico. Love, love, love holidays and always have to have one to look forward to!

MulderitsmeX · 09/03/2017 16:56

For a one off holiday - safari. We went to Botswana which was amazing, literally life changing.

Thailand for culture and beach

Italy - you can't go wrong it's all great!!
