It's got 25 minutes to go and I'm EXHAUSTED and want to go to bed and will likely be up in 2 hours with the baby anyway....

Tell me it's fine.

Hippopotamus I'm with you. We can stink together.

bluebellsparklypants · 08/03/2017 13:36

SealFinger

You iron your towels!!? How much time do you have on your hands?!😂
I've got rid of my big ironing board just have a small camping one I hang up in the wardrobe!

LauraB74 · 08/03/2017 15:19

i do it more than I care to remember or as my machine has at timer r I set it to finish at around the time I will be getting up, same for the tumble dryer so its all toasty when I get up.7

MrDacresEUSubsidy · 08/03/2017 15:22

Shotsfired Grin I'm still amused by the people who change their tea towels and actual bathroom towels after every use. They must spend all their time washing things!

ShotsFired · 08/03/2017 15:32

TheHiphopopotamus, Coastalcommand, MrDacresEUSubsidy and I should start a gang. Our flag can be a week-old unwashed teatowel and our secret signal can be the Shake'n'Vac dance (done ironically).

Who else is in?

seafoodeatit · 08/03/2017 15:42

Shotsfired - I would join but feel a bit of a fraud! I don't use tea towels for drying, (I think that's what they're supposed to be for) I use them as a mat for making baby bottles and cleaning.

heron98 · 08/03/2017 15:43

Well I set mine running about 7am before I leave for work and take it out about 7pm when I get home and it's always fine.

MrDacresEUSubsidy · 08/03/2017 16:50

I'm in. Does the fact that I cannot remember the last time I cleaned the inside of my fridge - let alone behind it - qualify me for some kind of enhanced membership?

starbug1 · 08/03/2017 17:00

Leave washing in machine - yes
Leave machine running - no

I would worry about it starting a fire. Happened to my friend, fortunately she noticed quickly.

I think we can arrange for you to have a special merit badge? Tell you what, I'll even use my used-for-a-good-month-dish sponge to give it a quick spit and polish, ok?

MrDacresEUSubsidy · 08/03/2017 17:22

Only if I can dry up afterwards with my trusty tea towel - still good after a whole week of use!

BubbaM14 · 08/03/2017 17:34

I wouldn't even think twice about leaving it and getting some sleep. I actually probably do this most days! Sleep always wins in my house!

Neverm1nd · 08/03/2017 18:52

This has seriously become a Daily Mail story???? Clearly the world is a very dull place today....

PatMullins · 08/03/2017 18:59

Sounds like some of you need to clean your washing machines...

melonyelon · 08/03/2017 19:28

Are you serious? I'm in the DM?!

Ooh my first mention in the press. They've cut my comment - I sound like a proper loser!

BertieBotts · 09/03/2017 00:43

Of course washing begins to smell if it's left in the machine, the same that any fabric dried too slowly will smell! It's not awful nor does it render the clothes completely unusable, it's a slight musty hint. Mostly disappears as you wear them and they get aired out. It's not a huge deal but it definitely happens.

Pouncival · 10/03/2017 06:47

It's gone bigger than that, it's reached America and Martha Stewart has given you the OK!

:o

Batteriesallgone · 10/03/2017 07:58

White vinegar. Excellent tip mumsnet.

Hard water area here and the machine gets musty quick. I do regular service washes but white vinegar might just sort it.

Chathamhouserules · 10/03/2017 11:52

I think if your washing smells after a few hours then your machine needs a clean or might have a blockage.
