It's got 25 minutes to go and I'm EXHAUSTED and want to go to bed and will likely be up in 2 hours with the baby anyway....

Tell me it's fine.

Whenever I've done it it smells of stagnant water. How are you people managing to leave it and not have a stinking mess the next day?

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 06/03/2017 22:55

Leave it, I've just done the same thing it'll be fine. Hope you sleep well and I do too!

Trb17 · 06/03/2017 22:56

I do this so often it's like it's a rule Grin

OnHold · 06/03/2017 22:57

Mine never smells. The water is all spun out.

Do you rush to empty your machine as soon as it's finished? I forget I've got washing in half the time.

RedBugMug · 06/03/2017 22:58

yabu - your dp/dp should hang it up so you can get your deserved rest.

SloanyAnne · 06/03/2017 22:59

Mine never smells unless I've left it in for more than 24 hours in high summer.
Odd.

lettuce1st · 06/03/2017 22:59

I do it all the time and out clothes never smell 😉

SloanyAnne · 06/03/2017 23:00

Oo I can see a loo brush situation unfolding in front of my very eyesSmile

FunkinEll · 06/03/2017 23:01

I do it but unhave tinrinse again as I can smell from ankle off if clothes have sat damp in the machine for more than a couple of hours.

Jeanneweany · 06/03/2017 23:01

Might stink

FunkinEll · 06/03/2017 23:01

*i have to rinse.

Bed time for me!

AdoraBell · 06/03/2017 23:03

OnHold it's been so long since I've done it that I don't remember if I set it on empty, although it did spin on the highest setting. Confused

Oldraver · 06/03/2017 23:07

It shouldn't smell if you have only left it a few hours

user1484750550 · 06/03/2017 23:08

Nah, I would have to finish it and hang it up or whatever.....

Why start it so late? You must have known the finishing time would be almost midnight yes?

hideehigh · 06/03/2017 23:11

I had to rewash one load of towels three times last week as I just kept on forgetting... overnight won't do any harm, go get some sleep!

BertieBotts · 06/03/2017 23:11

It will be fine.

But in the future if this happens quickly press "Rinse hold"

It pauses the cycle before the final rinse which means less creasing and no musty smell on the clothes. Just press the button again when you get up, it will complete within 10-20 minutes depending on your model.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/03/2017 23:13

just open the door when you are up with baby. that way it will not go as wiffy.

if you can manage tip it out into the basket.

TwentyCups · 06/03/2017 23:13

I'm waiting for mine right now. I don't think I could sleep knowing there was wet washing potentially going mouldy in the machine.

But, lets face it, that says a lot more about me than anything particularly logical about laundry!

AYankinSpanx · 06/03/2017 23:17

I'd be inclined to think that if washing starts to smell foosty after only a few hours then your machine might need a service and clean?

WatchingFromTheWings · 06/03/2017 23:17

I do this all the time. Never had a problem with it smelling if left over night. My last load for the day finished about half an hour ago. It'll stay where it is until 7am then it'll go on rads or inthe drier.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 06/03/2017 23:18

Go to bed and do a rinse and spin in the morning.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 06/03/2017 23:19

It will be fine. I have a speedy wash on my machine and if I haven't been able to empty it within about five hours or so of it finishing, I give it a quick run through on this before hanging up.

I'd far rather leave washing sealed in machine than in a damp festering lump in the laundry basket!

Natsku · 06/03/2017 23:20

Its fine. I'd put it through a new rinse cycle in the morning just to get it fresh again but that's probably not necessary.

Vermillioncomfyshoes · 06/03/2017 23:20

I leave it in and do a rinse with fabric conditioner in the morning

I do this as well. I've had family staying over the weekend and so been inordinately busy, so the washing has been sitting there since Friday.
So shoot me.
It will be absolutely fine. I really don't care :)

Broken11Girl · 06/03/2017 23:24

Another slattern that leaves it in for days. It's fine.
