It's got 25 minutes to go and I'm EXHAUSTED and want to go to bed and will likely be up in 2 hours with the baby anyway....

Tell me it's fine.

I really can smell it, even on a brand new machine but my husband can't smell it at all. It's only when it's dry I can smell it too and mainly on fleece or acrylic wool type (kids school jumpers) materials.

Saying this, I leave mine all the time, I can just smell if I do.

Trifleorbust · 07/03/2017 11:14

Oh I would.

upthegardenpath · 07/03/2017 11:14

Just go to sleep, then when you get up in the morning, run a very quick one-rinse-only cycle and it'll be uncreased again Grin

Sammysquiz · 07/03/2017 11:51

It will be fine! We have an Economy 10 meter so our electricity is much cheaper at certain hours of the day. So I put a wash on in the evening when it's cheap and then hang it outside in the morning.

My 9 year old DD wants to start walking to school with 2 other friends on their own, as they have just started doing it. I don't feel comfortable with it as the volume of traffic around on their route causes me concern. I'm quite happy to walk her to school, but feel railroaded into letting her because the other 2 girls are allowed to. I was thinking year 6 for letting her walk on her own, starting in stages - maybe I walk half way with her, and continue from there. Obviously, everyone's journey/route is different, but we have some difficult crossings. I would appreciate people's thoughts

I bet the clothes of all you people leaving the washing in the machine for ages do stink. You've just became used to the smell so it doesn't smell to you.

OnHold · 07/03/2017 15:48

No our clothes don't stink. Your attitude does though.

Ragwort · 07/03/2017 15:56

I've never even given this a second thought Confused - I frequently put the washing on when I go to bed and get it out in the morning. Or put it on when I leave for work and hang it out when I get back.

The things you learn on mumsnet Grin.

One way to keep a frontloder fresh is to keep the door slightly ajar when not actually washing.
Leaving wet laundry in the washer overnight will do no harm.

SealFinger · 07/03/2017 21:20

I do this all the time, but I use far too much fabric conditioner in a wash, I also use tumble dryer sheets and scented ironing water..

I am obsessed with smells though, and iron everything (not pants and socks, but everything else, including towels!)

user1486897010 · 07/03/2017 21:20

my dp does it thinking he's helping! Then i wake up in the morning and find a load of wet washing in the machine. Normally need to end up washing it again too... not very helpful! Keep telling him too but doesnt change

garbagegirl · 07/03/2017 21:21

I do this and then pop it on a quick wash with just fabric conditioner in to freshen it up

I am a shameless sloven

NonDropbear · 07/03/2017 21:21

Dettol laundry cleanser! Best product ever! Kills the stink, discovered it living in the tropics where stuff became rank within about 10m of completion.

ForTheSakeOfFuck · 07/03/2017 21:22

Boring observation but the stinkiness of clothes left wet in the washer might be impacted by water hardness/quality. I grew up somewhere with excellent water (the kind that gets bottled and sold) and could leave wet clothes in the washer for ages before the dreaded smell kicked in. A few years ago I moved to a new county across the country with less, er, glamorous water - same washing machine, powder, clothes, etc. - and within six hours they can start to reek. They also smell faintly if they get wet, e.g. in the rain, and seem to react to sweat much more fragrantly. Have had said washing machine serviced and cleaned multiple times since moving to no avail.

MrDacresEUSubsidy · 07/03/2017 21:24

I do this - it's fine. Keep the door closed though.

Sara107 · 07/03/2017 21:27

It's ok until the next day. Especially this time of year.

BertieBotts · 07/03/2017 21:27

Yes that makes sense FFS

Our water is ridiculously hard and it doesn't even wash some things properly, like DS's socks Confused

Thalissadaan97 · 07/03/2017 21:28

A cup of white vinegar with your washing powder/liquid stops your machine smelling and is good for stopping the build up of gunge. A spoonfull of soda helps as well.

smellylittleorange · 07/03/2017 21:31

Zorflora is great for holding any smells at bay..linen fresh or lavender ..a capful in the wash..everything comes out smelling superclean even after a day or two

londonrach · 07/03/2017 21:37

It be fine but i try not too prior dd as hate the smell. However since dd ive let things slide as sleep is more important than washing. Go for it op..go to bed x

PickledCauliflower · 07/03/2017 21:40

I worry about creasing if it's left in the drum too long. The ironing board is a rare sight in this household.
We all hate it - including the dog :)

Marmalade85 · 07/03/2017 21:41

My standards of cleanliness are incredibly low but even I wouldn't leave washing in overnight.

MsJamieFraser · 07/03/2017 21:45

I do it all the time, most days and nights actually, put a wash on before bed, and a wash on before going to work.
