I've read that
Blue tin Nivea is a cheaper version of creme de la mer so I've bought 3 tins!

Please can Anyone recommend anything that is as good as the branded version but cheaper?

Sainsbury's also do really good chicken dippers which are just as good if not better than the Birdseye ones!

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 02/03/2017 23:01

I find Blue Nivea too thick. I have used Nivea soft for decades now though.

HelsinkiLights · 02/03/2017 23:02

Another one Avon make up is really good especially their liquid eyeliners, eye shadows & lipglosses. Their shower gel, bubble bath & room sprays are good too, even better when it's choose 5 for £5. I am not an Avon lady I just keep my Avon Lady in business Grin.
Gillette Fusion razors are the better than Venus, last longer and are usually cheaper.
Waves to Vanilla whilst I'm here.

Archimandrite where do you live? I hoe you don't think that question is intrusive.. their eyeshadows are brilliant, really good pigmentation and last all day with not much fall down, I haven't tried their baked shadows yet, but their normal ones cost around £2.99, their matte lipsticks are fab too. I am still trialling lots of their make up so I will keep you updated, I am going to be doing a course for make up artists in a few months time so have a crap load of make up and am still trying and buying.

Maverick66 · 02/03/2017 23:16

KIKO make up is fantastic! Particularly their lipsticks.

Tbh I wouldn't same I can think of any proper 'hacks' but there are loads of things I buy own brand or even value brand that are just as good as branded versions. Shop Well for Less and the old Eat Well for Less proves that usually people cannot tell the difference between their usual brands and super cheap stuff.

Stuff I usually buy as cheap as possible that is just as good as more expensive stuff include a lot of my basic cleaning stuff (bleach, antibac sprays, antibac wipes, glass cleaners, cloths, scouring sponges, washing up liquid), lots of basic tinned things (baked beans, tinned spaghetti, tinned tomatoes, tinned pulses, tinned peas & carrots etc).

Superdrug are great for cheap own brand toiletries and cosmetics in particular. I use their anti-dandruff shampoo now instead of Head & Shoulders, it's just as good but a lot cheaper (and has the same active ingredient of zinc pyrithione to keep dandruff/scalp eczema at bay so works the same in that respect). I also use their super cheap vitamin E eye cream.

Sainsbury's baby lotion is a great simple moisturiser that is super cheap.

Always buy generic versions of over the counter medication where available as they are all the same active ingredients as the branded ones so unless you have a specific allergy or intolerance to something in a particular generic version there is really no reason to spend more. So paracetamol, ibuprofen, decongestant tablets, multivitamins, codeiene, hayfever tablets, diarrhea tablets...

If you can get to a good market, fruit and veg is far, far cheaper there than supermarkets. And often lots of other things too like hair accessories, some cosmetics, some clothing (basics like leggings for example).

M&S Formula skin care is reputed to be Clarins and Lance. Don't know if it's true, but it's lovely stuff for the price.

lidoshuffle · 02/03/2017 23:18

Lancome

MeadowHay · 02/03/2017 23:18

Oh and I never buy small bin liners, I get carrier bags when the shopping gets delivered and then re-use them as bin liners.

postmalone · 02/03/2017 23:18

Lidl do sunbite type snacks which are both nicer and cheaper than the real thing. Everyone else locally has realised this apparently and every time I go in now there are none left!

Also Lidl conditioner is just like Pantene. I've just bought a Tesco one to try as it look similar...using it tomorrow.

Morrison's tomato ketchup is better than Heinz (imo).

Generally men's razors are always better and cheaper than women's, and own brand as good as Gillette, but better value.

Originalfoogirl · 02/03/2017 23:19

Aldi "pretty much everything" for Aldi "pretty much everything"

Except toilet roll. Or thick bleach.

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 02/03/2017 23:20

A couple of days ago someone on here was saying about getting basic paint made up to colour-match F&B.

Yes. Take the F&B chart you your local Dulux trade place and they will mix it to match. Much better quality paint, less money.

Originalfoogirl · 02/03/2017 23:20

*for "pretty much everything"

Achoopichu · 02/03/2017 23:21

I love blue Nivea (the night cream one) - I used to get chapped lips with different balms etc and now use it instead - works well for lips and whole face and I haven't had chapped lips all winter

I really don't believe the active ingredient claims in any of the expensive creams

Found this www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2418153/Claire-used-1-Nivea-cream-half-face--105-Cr-la-Mer-The-results-VERY-revealing.html

TheOnlyLivingBoyinNewCork · 02/03/2017 23:22

Blue tin Nivea is a cheaper version of creme de la mer so I've bought 3 tins!

No its not. Of course its not, it has different ingredients.

Norpak has more butter in it that Lurpak

You've lost me there, how can one butter have more butter in it than another butter? It's all butter?

Jux · 02/03/2017 23:22

Oh yes to Lidl's jaffa cakes, the best of the lot - dh did taste tests between McVitie's, Tesco's, Co-op's and Lidl's., the latter being by far the best.

Lidl salamis and other cold meats are much better than other supermarkets' too.

I can't speak of Aldi as dh refuses to go there. Grin

MusicToMyEars800 · 02/03/2017 23:23

I love Morrisons own brand food it's really good, and I swear by their on brand bio and non bio washing gels and liquids, the liquids are better.

LowDudgeon · 02/03/2017 23:23

MeadowHay "Oh and I never buy small bin liners, I get carrier bags when the shopping gets delivered and then re-use them as bin liners"

IME binliners are way cheaper than carrier bags since the 5p charge and they don't have holes in!

I now use small bin liners for things I used to use free carriers for Grin

MatildaTheCat · 02/03/2017 23:25

Wilkinson 's heat patches for aches and pains are 50p per patch vs £1.50 plus for the branded ones such as volterol. Same product.

India Knight recommended the brand Superfacialist about a year ago and I've since been a devotee of the vit c daily serum and cream and the night cream. Really excellent products.

Dog chews miles cheaper in Wilkos as well.

laurzj82 · 02/03/2017 23:26

Thank you for the Aldi touche eclat tip. Will save me £££!

wobblywonderwoman · 02/03/2017 23:27

Place marking

Tonight boots own extra hold mousse was regarded as brilliant (purple can) for one pubs something

LowDudgeon · 02/03/2017 23:27

wilkos pedal bin liners £1 for 30

PickAChew · 02/03/2017 23:31

Women's razors have always been shite. I have coarse dark hair and need a properly sharp razor. Also need a hypoallergenic option due to recently emerged nickel allergy. Rare in women's razors.

PickAChew · 02/03/2017 23:34

Brabantia bin liners have holes in [pissed off look]

DH picks up IKEA bin bags when he's there. No holes and they're dark grey opaque, so miss out the bloody sanitary product walk of WTFery entirely.
