I'm not really a dress person and I've been looking at coloured dresses/non wedding dresses for my wedding this summer, which is not going down well with family...mainly my mum surely I'm not BU?

YANBU, do what you like. I wore blue, my grandma wore green. You do have to be quite confident in your choice though as you have already noticed that others will be nervous of you breaking the mould.

My Dd is getting married for the second time in Sept. this year. She is wearing a black dress. It has been created especially for her. She's over the moon. Won't be swayed by anyone.

Wear what your comfortable with. Enjoy your day. Smile

@daddyorchipsdaddyorchips: Who is your dress designer please?

HouseworkIsASin10 · 02/03/2017 10:43

Another ASOS maxi dress here. Summer wedding, no bridesmaids.

Lovinglife17 Good luck for Friday!

I wore a scarlet dress at my 2nd wedding. I was recently divorced and carrying my newborn up the aisle. I decided to go with it! I wore a bright white dress to my first wedding, but only because the colour suits me. I wouldn't have thought twice about wearing a different colour had i wanted to.

gameofchance · 02/03/2017 10:51

I bought a green full length bridesmaid dress (that looked like a more streamlined proper wedding dress). Not only was it a fifth of the cost of a wedding dress, I was able to get it shortened and wear again and more importantly I look awful in white / cream

Dowser · 02/03/2017 10:57

A 65 year old granny here.

I wore white to my first wedding.

A pinky beige to my second

A champagne off white colour to my third.

daddyorchipsdaddyorchips · 02/03/2017 11:45

TheEmma the dress is Charlotte Balbier Untamed Love.

daddyorchipsdaddyorchips · 02/03/2017 11:48

@Dowser what will you wear to the fourth? Grin

daddy that dress popped up in my newsfeed on facebook last week. Its lovely and I would be so trying it on if I was getting married again.

My dress was champagne but literally covered in antique silver colour embroidery and beads so I could 'just' get way with teasing DH about it being coloured before the wedding.

I think wedding outfits just have to be lovely. Whatever the brides version of lovely is, although I might have a giggle during a nudist ceremony Smile

MotherofA · 02/03/2017 13:04

I would wear whatever I bloody wanted on my wedding day ! Grin

shovetheholly · 02/03/2017 13:38

I got married in a grey office-style dress from Ted Baker. It was very functional and not what I really wanted. I'm very happy in my marriage, and also happy to be married, but the wedding day itself was a bit of a nightmare and I think I'd just given up by the point of choosing the dress. I'm very much of the 'it's just a day' school of thought, but part of me does rather wish sometimes that I'd had something just a touch more glamorous.

StarkintheSouth · 02/03/2017 13:41

I wore pale pink, kind of a 30s style on my day. All the white dresses that I liked were way out of my budget anyway!! Enjoy the shopping :)

OliviaBenson · 02/03/2017 14:29

Daddy I love that dress! If I was getting married again that is something I would seriously consider. You'll look amazing.

Superintrovert · 02/03/2017 14:34

Please wear what you want! I wore a pale green dress to get married in and it's not really a wedding dress either (well it is now!). I don't really like wedding dresses and would have felt ridiculous dressed up as a 'proper' bride. The only thing was that I did think a guest could potentially turn up in the same dress so I just let all the ladies know that while I absolutely didn't want to tell people what to wear, they might want to avoid x dress from y shop. But I know not everyone wants to reveal what they're wearing, I wasn't bothered about that as I'm not that into weddingy traditions!

Superintrovert · 02/03/2017 14:38

Mine (but not me in it 😆!)

Of course you don't have to wear white - I'd rather wear jeans than a white wedding dress! Grin

Some gorgeous dresses on this thread Smile

Polly is yours a Rivendell dress? A friend of mine had one of hers for a medieval themed wedding 10 years ago and it was stunning, similar to yours (I think the style is discontinued now) but hunter green with gold Celtic trim. Such a talented dressmaker and high quality dresses.

OP If you have some cash to splash I would definitely recommend her Rivendell Bridal

cannotmakemymindup · 02/03/2017 15:37

I wore black, this will seriously out me, the photi. I do not regret it one bit. It was a dress that was very me and although my parents were upset at first over my plans it was all fine on the day.

Ignore my bad spelling!

I wore a floor length gown in royal blue. I had bought it second hand and it is designed by Belville Sassoon. I accessorized it with a cream cashmere pashmina and cream roses. It was at San Francisco City hall which is quite grand but just a registry really so I didn't feel like going all out with a big white dress. Still love looking at pics of me in it. And I've worn it again. Do what you want OP!

nessus · 02/03/2017 16:26

Wear what you want OP. I was happy to wear white(ish) but no doubt that the same dress in black would have got more wear post-wedding!

AcaciaYou · 02/03/2017 19:22

Some beautiful dresses on here. I'd love to see photos of some of the ones described! The Charlotte Balbier is gorgeous; I had floral too - ivory background but heavily embroidered with pink roses and green foliage.
