To have taken back my walnut whips?!

I've NC'd as this is a bit embarrassing. I rarely shop in M&S as I can't afford to but went in this lunchtime as they often have a few reduced items. I spotted two single packet walnut whips on the end of an unused conveyor belt - they had various reduced things on there. I picked them up and had a look at them, saw they were 30p which is fab! I love the 'whippy' bit and their chocolate is amazing IMO.

My phone rang and I put them back down on the end of the checkout (it's hard to explain the logistics), but so they were close to me. It was an important call so I couldn't really rush the person off the phone as I saw this happen - a couple aged about 60ish who had been looking at said reduced items nearby took the walnut whips and put them in their basket. I was so pissed off, as this couple were near me when I was looking at the whips and I only put them down to get to my phone. They were right next to me so I thought it was obvious I'd 'claimed' them.

Ok I'm a bit ashamed but I subtly followed them and when the phone call finally ended and they were busy sifting through some pasta products I took the walnut whips out of their basket and didn't look back!
Quickly got to self checkout and paid for them then half-ran out of the store and to a shop a few doors down.

I feel really guilty and can't bring myself to eat them, am I a horrible person?!

GrinGrin
This made me laugh out loud!

Idontevenlikewalnuts · 01/03/2017 20:12

Just heard that this is the lead story on Crimestoppers tonight.

I actually did panic a bit for the first seconds of reading that, I had this vision of them complaining to the store. I need to get a grip.

I put down my heavy basket and went to get something nearby (not out of sight). When I turned back I saw a man surreptitiously going through my basket and he was taking a bag of salad leaves out of it. I was standing quietly behind him and asked what he was doing.

Oh my god now that is rude Shock See reading that it does sound such a bad thing to do...! Im glad he didn't take your leaves, the bugger!

thunderbuddy aw did she really? That's made my day reading that Grin That would be so funny if it's your parents, you'll have to update if so (and I can apologise sheepishly)

Astrantia that picture GrinGrinGrinGrin Brilliant.

Imagine the couple in the security office peering at the screen watching you pinch the walnut whips back

That's actually a good point. I look forward to seeing you on You've Been Framed Grin I hope the store has colour HD cameras

glitterazi · 01/03/2017 20:23

I hope this thread makes it to classics.

Why? Christ, it doesn't take much to get nominated for classics now, does it?!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 01/03/2017 20:27

dashtracksuit · 01/03/2017 20:30

Kluffman61 · 01/03/2017 20:40

Hahaha love it 😁

ForFiveMinutes · 01/03/2017 20:42

I've just eaten a salted caramel one and it was lush. Trying not to go down and get another one....
YANBU, I've been elbowed out the way many a time by a more mature customer in M&S when they start knocking down the cream slices so I say well done to you

HappyFlappy · 01/03/2017 20:46

Thank you Astrantia

I will keep a sharp look out for That Woman whenever I am in the vicinity of M&S Walnut Whips.

(She is an obvious criminal type - shouldn't take the Forces of Law and Order long to pick her up.)

PolaDeVeboise · 01/03/2017 20:46

Cappucino. CAPPUCINO - Walnut Whip of the gods I tell thee.

It won't don't worry, it's not worthy of that and I'd feel silly if it was when others should be, didn't even expect many replies and genuinely thought a lot would be telling me off!

What woman is this - I will google, worried now!!

Idontevenlikewalnuts · 01/03/2017 20:55

Livia that's not to say I'd mind if it was, just be surprised. It's pretty amazing to make it into Classics isn't it, I'd be proud :)

You're probably bloody mean but you gave me a great laugh 😂 Love that story!

BettyBaggins · 01/03/2017 20:57

Hilarious!!

If guilt pangs too hard you could always head back to a supermarket, a nice cheap one, stalk an old couple and see what choccies they eye up, buy them and then sneak them in their bag.

Stealing from old doddies, what a naughty, naughty Idontevenlikewalnuts you are!!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 01/03/2017 20:59

As it's AIBU it won't disappear anyway!

It's one of those strange situations - they were possibly mistakenly under the impression nobody was going to have them - it was you who actively did something wrong. And yet people are applauding - MN is an odd place at times Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 01/03/2017 21:00

old doddies They were 60 odd - nice bit of ageism there

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2017 21:03

I also live near the factory which makes them. 6 for 50p indeed.

I don't like them.

littleladybird14 · 01/03/2017 21:03

Love this! OP you are my hero!Grin

PatMullins · 01/03/2017 21:04

I didn't realise this was a thing, thanks OP Grin

phoebe2016 · 01/03/2017 21:06

Lol, fair play to you for having the balls to go and get them back!!

Clandestino · 01/03/2017 21:07

I have the image of the OP sneaking behind the couple with the facial expression an outraged Mr. Bean would be proud of, sticking her outstretched fingers into the basket of an old and frail couple and then running away, hiding behind the stand with Percy Pig jelly sweets.
I hope that all m&s employees among mumsnetters are checking their cctv footage for the recording of the OP right now.
