To have taken back my walnut whips?!

I've NC'd as this is a bit embarrassing. I rarely shop in M&S as I can't afford to but went in this lunchtime as they often have a few reduced items. I spotted two single packet walnut whips on the end of an unused conveyor belt - they had various reduced things on there. I picked them up and had a look at them, saw they were 30p which is fab! I love the 'whippy' bit and their chocolate is amazing IMO.

My phone rang and I put them back down on the end of the checkout (it's hard to explain the logistics), but so they were close to me. It was an important call so I couldn't really rush the person off the phone as I saw this happen - a couple aged about 60ish who had been looking at said reduced items nearby took the walnut whips and put them in their basket. I was so pissed off, as this couple were near me when I was looking at the whips and I only put them down to get to my phone. They were right next to me so I thought it was obvious I'd 'claimed' them.

Ok I'm a bit ashamed but I subtly followed them and when the phone call finally ended and they were busy sifting through some pasta products I took the walnut whips out of their basket and didn't look back!
Quickly got to self checkout and paid for them then half-ran out of the store and to a shop a few doors down.

I feel really guilty and can't bring myself to eat them, am I a horrible person?!

Now I have to go and buy M and S walnut whips tomorrow - I hold you responsible OP

Soubriquet · 28/02/2017 20:08

ShockGrin

Wow the brass balls on you!

I'm a bit in awe...and I feel slightly sorry for the couple who must be extremely confused

jammyjay · 28/02/2017 20:09

Good for you! I bought a pack yesterday! 3 in a pack, so my DP had 1 and I had 2 - not the walnut! Grin

bumsexatthebingo · 28/02/2017 20:12

I think I'd just assume I'd dropped them tbh.

Idontevenlikewalnuts · 28/02/2017 20:12

timeforabrewnow I apologise - but you'll be thanking me when eating them, they taste more amazing than usual.

jammyjay good work getting 2 out the pack ;)

I gasped a bit too, but more in delight, because that is fucking funny 😂😂

isseywithcats · 28/02/2017 20:13

ApplePieLikes · 28/02/2017 20:14

I'm desperate for a walnut whip now, shame on you OP!

chocolateworshipper · 28/02/2017 20:15

You have just become my hero.

I don't normally condone theft, but all's fair in love and chocolate.

Creampastry · 28/02/2017 20:15

That's fantastic! Don't worry about it. You have given them something interesting to tell their friends!!

Patriciathestripper1 · 28/02/2017 20:16

😂😂 that was soooo funny!
Well done you! Enjoy them with pride.

Dawndonnaagain · 28/02/2017 20:17

You are outrageously unreasonable, but really fucking funny! Grin

llangennith · 28/02/2017 20:17

😂😂😂

Minstrelsareyum · 28/02/2017 20:22

YABU (and another PP) for not eating the walnut!! Why? Best bit!

Idontevenlikewalnuts · 28/02/2017 20:22

I'm genuinely surprised and touched by the replies, I honestly thought I'd get a bit of a telling off but felt I needed to confess to someone. Might tell my friend when I see her tomorrow.

issey yep, been telling myself all afternoon that they can just buy the regular packs because they might possibly probably definitely have more money than me Grin

Brilliant Grin just wish I had your balls

Idontevenlikewalnuts · 28/02/2017 20:24

Minstrelsareyum (yes they are btw!) - my mum always used to buy walnut whips when I was a child and she said every time, without fail "Oh look, the walnut looks exactly like a brain" and since then I can't eat it :( Plus it's my least favourite nut taste wise.

GabsAlot · 28/02/2017 20:25

i love them too but yes you a little unreasnable-i wojuld have flipped if someone took something out of my basket

ObviousChild · 28/02/2017 20:26

I also love how much you're stressing about it - as if they were look on cctv to see where the walnut whips went!!! Too funny. But the fact you are thinking about this shows how much it is weighing on your conscience, which means you are a good person. So you can trough your chocs in peace.

Teacupinastorm · 28/02/2017 20:28

This is hillarious! I used to work at M and S in foods and believe me I've seen a lot worse when it comes to reduced food. Christmas Eve reductions were a sight to behold.

Enjoy your whips!

mummabubs · 28/02/2017 20:29

I did this once with the last bag of custard doughnuts late at night in a supermarket- I was literally reaching out for them when a guy pushed past me and grabbed them so I stalked, whipped them out of his trolley and ran to the checkouts as fast as I could! Not my proudest moment, but I can totally understand why you did it!!!
