To have taken back my walnut whips?!

I've NC'd as this is a bit embarrassing. I rarely shop in M&S as I can't afford to but went in this lunchtime as they often have a few reduced items. I spotted two single packet walnut whips on the end of an unused conveyor belt - they had various reduced things on there. I picked them up and had a look at them, saw they were 30p which is fab! I love the 'whippy' bit and their chocolate is amazing IMO.

My phone rang and I put them back down on the end of the checkout (it's hard to explain the logistics), but so they were close to me. It was an important call so I couldn't really rush the person off the phone as I saw this happen - a couple aged about 60ish who had been looking at said reduced items nearby took the walnut whips and put them in their basket. I was so pissed off, as this couple were near me when I was looking at the whips and I only put them down to get to my phone. They were right next to me so I thought it was obvious I'd 'claimed' them.

Ok I'm a bit ashamed but I subtly followed them and when the phone call finally ended and they were busy sifting through some pasta products I took the walnut whips out of their basket and didn't look back!
Quickly got to self checkout and paid for them then half-ran out of the store and to a shop a few doors down.

I feel really guilty and can't bring myself to eat them, am I a horrible person?!

And PS- I've never heard of another human being doing this so thank you for absolving my 10 year long shame for my actions!! 😂😂

Sherlock35 · 28/02/2017 20:31

Well done you! Grin

BeastofCraggyIsland · 28/02/2017 20:32

That's hilarious, good on you OP, I wish I'd been there to see your grab and run manoeuvre Grin I don't like walnuts either so it's a double YANBU!

WhispersOnTheWind · 28/02/2017 20:32

You whipped their walnut whips? Perfectly reasonable thing to do, it's every woman for herself when it comes to walnut whips - and you had them first. Even if you hadn't it was clearly an act of heroism to rescue those walnut whips from those awful, neglectful people. What kind of monsters just carelessly toss walnut whips into a shopping basket and then fail to guard them with their lives? They probably kick puppies too.

kissmewherethesundontshine · 28/02/2017 20:33

I once arrived home & couldn't find my mega reduced bargain, assumed It slipped off the conveyor belt...I'm now wondering if there is more people like you around Wink so funny!!

GrandDesespoir · 28/02/2017 20:34

All's fair in love and wa...lnut whips.

Idontevenlikewalnuts · 28/02/2017 20:36

Miss Whip-lash I bloody love that!!! :)

obviouschild yes I've really stressed about it and the CCTV thing just came into my head, I'd be gutted to be banned from there or in trouble. I was imagining if they made a complaint or something.
Yeah I suppose you're right, the worrying about it might mean something, I am honestly not someone who does things like this, I hate confrontation, complaining, arguing and worry about everything! It was a moment of madness and a severe craving for those whips!!

mummabubs a fellow stealth treat food thief! Your post is hilarious and I'm glad you got your doughnuts :D

Stop feeling guilty, its not like you shoplifted them.
All you did was deprive two poor elderly folk a little bit of luxury. A small treat they could have had after their dinner of cold baked beans as they shiver around a candle stub.

Amazing post - this is why I love MN Star

I've never got the Walnut Whip love what am I missing?! but I'd probably have done the same as you.

What would you have done if they'd noticed what you'd done though?! Grin

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/02/2017 20:42

You didn't steal them as they hadn't paid for them yet!
I love an M&S bargain. I got some heavily reduced venison steaks from there once. Delicious!

SabineUndine · 28/02/2017 20:44

You are my hero for today. I'm feeling a bit downtrodden, and wish I were more like you.

HappyFlappy · 28/02/2017 20:45

You are my new hero!

Something similar has happened to me on occasion, but I would never have dared.

On the other hand, if you were the woman who took the reduced chicken thighs out of my basket after you'd been fanning about with them for 30 minutes and then put them down - YOU BLIDDY BITCH, YOU ARE DEAD - DEAD - D'YOU HEAR?!?!?!?!?!?!

HappyFlappy · 28/02/2017 20:45

*fannying, not fanning as well you know, autocorrect, you sod!

HappyFlappy · 28/02/2017 20:47

Baggy - they were probably cooking their luxurious dinner of Whole Roast Mouse over that candle stub - they can afford it!

Dagnabit · 28/02/2017 20:48

Oh my god....I wonder if you go to my local M&S because I saw a wanted poster up on the wall there today...something about a chocolate snaffling thief...small world!

Idontevenlikewalnuts · 28/02/2017 20:50

DJ that's just mean!!! Sounds silly but I will do a good deed tomorrow to make up for this, will look for an opportunity to be kind somehow.

What would you have done if they'd noticed what you'd done though?!

Umm that's a very good question - probably either thrown the whips at them and ran, or literally froze and smiled out of embarrassment. I've cringed at myself all day since.

Sabine sorry to hear you feel downtrodden, I do understand (the phone call was regarding me having CBT for anxiety and other things)
Every day is a new chance to be a Whip thief though :)

I live near one of the chocolate factories that makes the M & S walnut whips - you can buy 10 for 50p. Just sayin..

Cherrysoup · 28/02/2017 20:58

I once found several packets of stuff I love in a big supermarket. I shoved them in my trolley, then as I bent to check for other things, a lady came over and started sorting through my trolley. I had to defend my stuff!

You're very brave to take them back, OP! I'm laughing at the idea of fisticuffs in M&S over walnut whips! Eat and enjoy!

HappyFlappy · 28/02/2017 20:59

I will do a good deed tomorrow to make up for this

NOTHING can compensate for two walnut whips . . . .

Septbaby · 28/02/2017 20:59

Hero!!!

MrsDc7 · 28/02/2017 21:00

Omg I am CRYING! Imagine the couple in the security office peering at the screen watching you pinch the walnut whips back 😂 Haha... you're face will be on a poster at the door next time you go OP... THIS WOMAN IS BANNED FROM THE STORE. IF YOU SEE THIS WOMAN DO NOT APPROACH, SHE IS RUTHLESS AND WILL STEAL YOUR WALNUT WHIPS

mowgelijeffs · 28/02/2017 21:01
