Pancakes for tea - AIBU or DH?!

It's Pancake Day on Tuesday! Bloody love Pancake Day.
Although, who's BU?
I think stacks of pancakes for tea on Pancake Day (dinner to the Southerner lot) with loads of different toppings, fruit and fillings is perfectly adequate.
DH thinks that's not a substantial tea, and they're perfectly good as a starter but it's not a main meal for the kids.
Am I unreasonable to think "Shurrup, it's Pancake Day!" and continue to fill us all with pancakes or do you do something else as well?

You don't even want to know how many my dh made this afternoon.

It's awful.

So yes, that's all we are having for tea and probably breakfast at this rate.

mumeeee · 28/02/2017 17:16

When our DDs were at home we usually had normal stuff for the main course but pancakes for dessert. My friend would do savoury and sweet ones for tea. I would never have pancakes for a starter to filling.
We also sometimes went out for Pancakes which is what DH and I have done today

Ginosaji · 28/02/2017 17:23

Your dh is being vvu! Its only once a year, as long as they had a proper breakfast and lunch it wont hurt them to pig out for dinner on pancakes, ive done the same with my dd,

Its like xmas day, and her birthday, i let her her be greedy on those days as they are special, pancake day i do give her a proper breakfast and lunch tho, but yes i let her pig out on pancakes at dinner time, the rest of the year im a mean mum who makes her eat plenty of fruit and veg Grin

simiisme · 28/02/2017 17:29

A stack of pancakes, savoury then sweet, is what we do every year.
Veggie sticks - peppers are lovely, grated cheese, cooked chipolatas, ham.
Then Nutella, sugar and lemon or honey.
Yum!

Lazyafternoon · 28/02/2017 17:30

My DS had pancakes for his tea. Tried to encourage cheese and ham but having none of it. So honey and blueberries it was! That'll be it for his tea, he said he was full. He had loads of fruit and veg for breakfast and packed lunch so isn't going to come down with scurvy from one day with without a 'cooked meal'!

DH and will probably have a normal dinner then a pancake for pudding though.

paxillin · 28/02/2017 17:30

Big pile of pancakes, sugar, lemon juice, chocolate, jam. Cheese and mushrooms if you must. It's the law.

Make him a leafy salad.

freefallingthruthisshit · 28/02/2017 17:35

I woman I work with (who's more than a bit odd, is more than a little unhinged and is an incredibly finickity fanny) also said it wasn't a proper tea. They've had hot dinners at school and once they've had a couple of pancakes they'll be stuffed. You ANBU

Aniayka · 28/02/2017 17:48

Absolutely adequate even not for a pancake day. :) Having them regulary here :)

ScrunchyMonster · 28/02/2017 17:55

YANBU

We do a fry up on a pancake then as many sweet ones as we can fit in!

isthishouseamidden · 28/02/2017 17:59

just pancakes here. DS 16m is a fussy soul and pancakes (egg, flour and milk) with peanut butter and pear ( and chocolate sauce and ice cream) is probably healthier than what he will normally eat.

I made the batter with double egg to try and boost the nutrition too. He finished the first one before I had time to cook the second... I'll be making them again before next pancake day!

geordiedench · 28/02/2017 18:00

We have veg soup to get in the 5 a day then pancakes with unhealthy toppings. Then Lent!

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 28/02/2017 18:02

There's no way I'm cooking a meal and making pancakes.
It's either or.

It's only one day a year. It won't kill them to have a 'proper' meal.
(I wouldn't even bother with the fruit)
Let them have all the wrong fun toppings and fillings. It's part of the fun of pancakes - all that nutella and sugar and cinamon.

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 28/02/2017 18:02

won't kill them not to have a proper meal.

Galdos · 28/02/2017 18:03

Pancakes today? Yup: with cheese and ham fillings, and for puds with lemon/sugar or (yum yum) golden syrup. They are very filling (my recipe is a pound of flour, a pint of milk, salt and two eggs).

Not at all difficult to make, but a bit of a flaff getting 4 on the table at about the same time.

Pancakes about once every 6 weeks too.

Elendon · 28/02/2017 18:05

Three of us had pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup, alongside a pancake with buttersyrup or butterscotch.

My veggie daughter had just everything with the syrup, minus the bacon.

We are all stuffed! Delicious. Mind you, I do pancakes more than once a year.

Mrsmadevans · 28/02/2017 18:08

YADNBU op get the pancakes down you
tis only once a year and they are delicious!

Katedotness1963 · 28/02/2017 18:20

I made "real food" for husband and kids but I've only had crepes, with so much sugar my teeth hurt and so much lemon juice my cheeks almost meet in the middle. Delicious! I'm now trying to ignore the batter covered kitchen in the hopes someone else will clear up....

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 28/02/2017 18:20

Crispy duck and pancakes for dinner in my house!
Followed by normal pancakes for supper if anyone has room.

RedBugMug · 28/02/2017 18:21

pancakes are nutritionally quite ok I would think. especially if you make them with (part) wholemeal and serve with fruit and veg.

ChangelingToday · 28/02/2017 18:22

We're having rashers with ours, I'll put some sausages on for dh and kids too since they will probably not eat the pancakes (but like the idea of having a pancake day).
I'm having American style buttermilk with strawberries, blueberries and maple syrup 👅

MrsTeller · 28/02/2017 18:25

My ex MIL told me she'd bought pancakes.

glitterazi · 28/02/2017 18:25

Well, we've had pancakes followed by more pancakes for tea.
DH was predictably like "what else are we having?"
Erm.... PANCAKES!!
Quit your whining, fill your hole, and if you're still hungry later on you know how to cook yourself something lol Grin
