Pancakes for tea - AIBU or DH?!

It's Pancake Day on Tuesday! Bloody love Pancake Day.
Although, who's BU?
I think stacks of pancakes for tea on Pancake Day (dinner to the Southerner lot) with loads of different toppings, fruit and fillings is perfectly adequate.
DH thinks that's not a substantial tea, and they're perfectly good as a starter but it's not a main meal for the kids.
Am I unreasonable to think "Shurrup, it's Pancake Day!" and continue to fill us all with pancakes or do you do something else as well?

We're having pancakes for tea. Lots of different fillings, a banana will feature along with Nutella, but that's about as healthy as it will get.

I used to make them have a healthy balanced meal first and all that, but they're teens now, so I can't be arsed with the battle.

HookandSwan · 27/02/2017 20:34

We had them as pudding when I was little. But I don't think it's a problem as a one off. And you could do savoury ones.

noramum · 28/02/2017 12:04

I am German, pancakes are a stable lunch or emergency dinner all year round.

Either apples, blueberries in the mix or strawberries as a topping. Or spread with whatever is desired. Our pancakes are as big as the pan I use.

DD will have pancakes for pudding at school, at her childminders for tea, at Brownies and then at home at 7.30pm.

Tomorrow normal diet comes again.

GavelRavel · 28/02/2017 13:11

After we have pancakes for tea on Pancake Day we can hardly move never mind anything else! We have 2/3 savoury ones first - filled with ham/cheese/egg. Then we have as many sweet ones as can manage - sugar and lemon, sugar and jam, and then for dessert, pancakes with ice cream and maple sytrup.

How could anyone manage another tea on top of that? That's after the dc have had, according to them last year, "about 10" nutella pancakes for lunch/snack at school/childminders.

nosyupnorth · 28/02/2017 13:20

nothing stack of pancakes and whole tablespoons full of sugar or jam - it's a treat and once a year (especially if you're getting them to give something up for lent)

RaspberryOverloadsOnChilli · 28/02/2017 13:29

We'll be having pancakes later, DP is good at making them.

We'll have a mix of savoury and sweet fillings. We only have them once or twice a year.

moofolk · 28/02/2017 15:08

IT'S PANCAKE DAY!!
We had them for breakfast and will have them for tea. Hopefully they didn't have them for school dinner too, but if they did... lucky them.

StickChildNumberTwo · 28/02/2017 15:13

Even my needs two full cooked meals a day husband is happy with pancakes for dinner. I make a savoury sauce to go with them for main course, then sweet things for pudding. And every year we say we should do them more often and then don't.

Funnyface1 · 28/02/2017 15:18

Reasonable as a one off if they've had a good lunch. Peppa pig does it...

venusinscorpio · 28/02/2017 15:27

Savoury first then sweet is a perfectly adequate meal. And lovely!

Huldra · 28/02/2017 15:36

I've now bought Baileys to have with mine Grin

Schmoop · 28/02/2017 15:41

I had the same grumble from my DH this morning. I have compromised that we will have some savoury ones before the sweet ones. Bacon and cheese savoury and lemon and sugar, maple syrup or chocolate spread for sweet

skorpion · 28/02/2017 15:42

I'm sorry, but 'guilt about pancakes for dinner'? Once a year? Really?

We had them once a fortnight if we could convince my mum to faff to make them. What's the problem once a year?

SealSong · 28/02/2017 15:50

Baked savoury pancakes stuffed with creamy mushrooms and broccoli with cheese on top to start, then sweet pancakes filled with dulce-de-leche and banana, or lemon and sugar, here Smile. Yum

Notso · 28/02/2017 15:57

I thought I'd like cheese pancakes. I love cheese and I love pancakes but it was sickly and claggy.
Lemon and sugar or butter and sugar are the best.

venusinscorpio · 28/02/2017 16:00

Creamed spinach is a really nice pancake filling, with a bit of cheese.

PUGaLUGS · 28/02/2017 16:04

Perfectly acceptable.

I used to do loads with lots of different toppings and ice cream. Once a year didn't hurt them. There was no "savoury dinner" involved just lots of pancakes.

zukiecat · 28/02/2017 16:08

I would just have pancakes as a snack

Not today though, I don't understand that just because it's Pancake Tuesday why I must eat them

I haven't bought any to eat today or any other day, not my most favourite thing to eat

zukiecat · 28/02/2017 16:10

Maybe it's because I'm not Christian that I don't see the point of it

venusinscorpio · 28/02/2017 16:15

It's just a tradition which has endured, you don't actually have to be a practicing Christian any more then to eat a hot cross bun at Easter! No one "has"to do it. But many people like to Smile

Soubriquet · 28/02/2017 16:17

We've eaten ours Grin

I've just had sugar but the dc have had theirs with Nutella, blueberries and strawberries

Clean plate from both

RebelandaStunner · 28/02/2017 16:19

DH and DS hate them poor things.
More for me and DD Smile

MrsKoala · 28/02/2017 16:44

Inspired by this thread i was planning to do ham and cheese savoury baked pancake rolls and chocolate pancakes with ice cream and chocolate sauce for pud. But DH has announced he isn't feeling well and just wants a pizza. :(

i'll do the chocolate ones for the dc and hope they still don't like them then i can scoff them all. Mwahahaaa

sashh · 28/02/2017 16:46

I am German, pancakes are a stable lunch or emergency dinner all year round.

For me too.

Also to use up excess YP batter.

5moreminutes · 28/02/2017 16:58

Why are some people referring to "buying" pancakes Confused
