Pancakes for tea - AIBU or DH?!

It's Pancake Day on Tuesday! Bloody love Pancake Day.
Although, who's BU?
I think stacks of pancakes for tea on Pancake Day (dinner to the Southerner lot) with loads of different toppings, fruit and fillings is perfectly adequate.
DH thinks that's not a substantial tea, and they're perfectly good as a starter but it's not a main meal for the kids.
Am I unreasonable to think "Shurrup, it's Pancake Day!" and continue to fill us all with pancakes or do you do something else as well?

We had pancakes for breakfast, DS had pancakes as pudding at school, for tea we had cous cous pancakes( a delivery from fresh food which weren't nice) so we had some more pancakes with lemon and sugar.

We might give up pancakes for lent.

RedBugMug · 28/02/2017 18:30

very right, op!
leftovers (what leftovers) get frozen for the 'have 10 min between school and club' days

I saw a programme with Hugh Fernley W and it was about celebrating pancakes. He said it's fine to have them for tea....and nothing else. So sometimes, if I'm at the end of my tether in deciding what to cook for a child who eats nothing, I suggest pancakes for tea...and that's what we have. Nothing else, just pancakes.

Libitina · 28/02/2017 18:31

We had 3 pancakes each for tea, with lemon and sugar. Am currently stuffed.

Blueflowers2011 · 28/02/2017 18:31

Pancakes are classed as a dessert in my house, not a substantial main.

Notso · 28/02/2017 18:33

I've just had three pancakes, two lemon and sugar one butter and sugar. I'm really full, no way could I have eaten anything before them.

Aworldofmyown · 28/02/2017 18:34

We had pancakes with grated apple and mashed banana in the mix. Topped with syrup ice cream and strawberries.

Twas yum.

Pancakes are breakfast or pudding. Not an evening meal (if main meal is in evening).

We've had a bit of a pancakes for breakfast frenzy over half term and since so I'm keeping shtum about it being pancake day today.

DeleteOrDecay · 28/02/2017 18:36

Dc had pancakes after their usual dinner. Me and DP will be having pancakes for dinner when he comes home from work later.

diddl · 28/02/2017 18:37

Well I had 3 pancakes for lunch, another for tea as I made another mix so husband could have one and there's mix left so looks like pancakes for breakfast tomorrow-yippee!

BettyBaggins · 28/02/2017 18:37

Pancakepizzasandwichthing here, 2 pancakes, with cooked toms and cheese in the middle, not rolled. If I had a grumpy 'what ONLY pancakes' DH I'd tell him to make the pic shown or shurrup!

When DD was small I occasionally used to sneak in some green food colouring to her sweet pancake mix for fun.

Pancakes for tea - AIBU or DH?!

We have a main meal and then I spend an hour flippin' pancakes for pudding for the kids to demolish in approx 30 seconds flat sigh I still love pancake day though, and like others, we say every year that we should have them more often. To be fair, I do make scotch pancakes quite often, so they arent pancake deprived Wink

BettyBaggins · 28/02/2017 18:39

*when I say here I mean in my belly, I did not make the pic!

Greenicicle · 28/02/2017 18:41

In a blender:
2 eggs
Enough milk for the quantity of mix you need (bit less because the flour will increase the volume)
Start slow whizz
Gradually add plain flour until the consistency of thin custard

Spray oil into a clean non stick pan
Pour mix in until you get the size you want
Wait until the batter has solidified and you can move the pancake in the pan
Flip over
30 seconds on other side
Slide onto plate.
Piece of piss!

Notso · 28/02/2017 18:42

Like clockwork DH just phoned, "What's for tea"
Me, "Pancakes"
Him"yeah but what's first"
Me"more pancakes"
Him "I'm off to Maccies first then, I don't think pancakes is a meal for the kids"
Me "kids disagree, they've eaten about 5 each"
Him"harrumph"

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 28/02/2017 18:43

You're DH is the devil! Ha ha
And as for the suggestion of filling them with vegetables......barf!

glitterazi · 28/02/2017 18:45

Notso - sounds like mine and yours would get on, lol Grin

Grin glitterazi what makes me laugh more is his 'decent meal' will be Big Mac meal, large with milkshake and probably an extra hamburger or chicken selects in the side followed by four or five pancakes with Nutella and banana. Healthy.

PlumsGalore · 28/02/2017 18:51

Of course they are adequate once a year. Personally I bloody hate them but I wouldn't deny anyone else the treat as long as I didn't have to make them. That's what nannnas do isn't it?

cheval · 28/02/2017 18:53

I'm sad face here as this is the first time in 26 years that no one has been with me to enjoy a pancake fest. Youngest used to get more excited about pancake day than his birthday! I haven't bothered doing them as a solo dinner. Sob.

ithakabythesea · 28/02/2017 19:10

We are stuffed with pancakes, nothing but lovely yummy pancakes. Love pancake day.

MaisyPops · 28/02/2017 19:14

Pancake tea all the way!
But my DH is like yours. Theyre boring.

WhateverNameIsStillAvailable · 28/02/2017 19:21

Oooops... I'm from Germany and we just had a pancake breakfast lunch and dinner wit apple pieces in the dough. 😂😂😂
The kids told me we must eat pancakes all day. LITTLE LIARS.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 28/02/2017 19:24

He is BU.

You keep making them until you're sick!

And everyone eats one at a time in a queue!
