You say tchoritso...

...and I say khoritho. Because it's RIGHT. That's how ACTUAL SPANISH PEOPLE say it because it COMES FROM SPAIN.
So why do you look pityingly at me as though I'm some kind of illiterate imbecile, and get me to repeat it, several times, before you say, triumphantly, 'Oh, tchoritso!' like you've just cracked the fucking Enigma Code?
And it crosses my mind, fleetingly, that perhaps my life would have been easier if sometimes I'd chosen to be wrong instead of weird.

Does it matter?

It's just a fancy word for sausage.

honeysucklejasmine · 26/02/2017 23:03

I saw chor-it-zo because I am a heathen.

Cat0115 · 26/02/2017 23:03

With you entirely. Simlarly CAVA. Not CARRRVA.

I honestly wouldn't know what you were saying if you pronounced it the authentic Spanish way. I've only ever heard it pronounced the 'wrong' way. I wonder if I am alone in my ignorance?!

BrillianaHarvey · 26/02/2017 23:04

Let's not get existential about charcuterie, Joffrey.

I have a villa in Spain and have Spanish lessons.
CH is pronounced TH in Spain so they were correct theoretically but its a bit anal as however it is pronounced everyone knows what it is???

BoomerAnge · 26/02/2017 23:06

I speak Spanish and it's choreetho!!

MadMags · 26/02/2017 23:06

Do you think whoever this is thinks you're a bit pretentious?

BoomerAnge · 26/02/2017 23:06

So no kh at the beginning

thebakerwithboobs · 26/02/2017 23:06

I bet you have a coronary over chipotle!! 😂😂

ivechangedmyname123 · 26/02/2017 23:07

Interestingly it can also be pronounced Choreeso and would be understood as South Americans tend not to use th... useless fact of the day!

BrillianaHarvey · 26/02/2017 23:07

And don't get me started on jalapeño.

You sound tiresome. So how do you pronounce spaghetti?

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/02/2017 23:09

I pronounce it "chore ee tho"

I did Spanish a'level.

Obsidian77 · 26/02/2017 23:09

It would be tchoriso or tchori-tho, depending on how they say the z. Doesn't start with a k sound.
Hth in this most crucial of charcuterie--related crises.

What about pai-yay-ya?

I have Spanish family by marriage. I am not allowed to mispronounce these words

TheOnlyLivingBoyinNewCork · 26/02/2017 23:12

It depends where in Spain, so in some regions you'd be totally wrong, OP. Most in fact.

QueenMortificado · 26/02/2017 23:13

Alright, I know it's technically correct but people that say choriTHo often accompany it with a look of smug satisfaction. I don't like those people.

See also those who pronounce Moët as Mo-et with a hard T. Technically correct but makes you sound like a wang.

fuckingwall · 26/02/2017 23:13

I didn't ask whether you ate spaghetti - how do you pronounce the word?

BrillianaHarvey · 26/02/2017 23:13

I think we can agree that Castilian Spanish is the purest pronunciation.

OP posts:
kissingJustForPractice · 26/02/2017 23:13

Ch is pronounced the same as it is in English. Z is either th or z depending on whether you are in Europe or not. So it's chorizo or choritho. If you say khoritho then you're still saying it half Italian half Spanish, just the opposite way around from the people you're complaining about.
