You say tchoritso...

...and I say khoritho. Because it's RIGHT. That's how ACTUAL SPANISH PEOPLE say it because it COMES FROM SPAIN.
So why do you look pityingly at me as though I'm some kind of illiterate imbecile, and get me to repeat it, several times, before you say, triumphantly, 'Oh, tchoritso!' like you've just cracked the fucking Enigma Code?
And it crosses my mind, fleetingly, that perhaps my life would have been easier if sometimes I'd chosen to be wrong instead of weird.

OP posts:
PageStillNotFound404 · 26/02/2017 23:33

I'm still in therapy for it, fuckingwall.

What do kwasson-deniers ask for? "Can I have a French buttery crescent shaped bun please?"

Olivialoves · 26/02/2017 23:34

OP- do you say "Pa-ree" for Paris too?
'Cos that's how the French say it, right?

LittleWingSoul · 26/02/2017 23:34

Ch ISN'T a Kh sound in Spanish though, anywhere in the Spanish speaking world! That is just completely incorrect!

Yes, the th and the z sound are regional, but kh, no. You are actually saying it more wrong than the people you think are saying it wrong, OP!

Spanish is my first language.

PhilODox · 26/02/2017 23:35

Surely the pronunciation varies according to which part of Spain you're in? I though the Basque pronunciation was more like a 'tch' at the front?

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 26/02/2017 23:35

How else are you suppose to pronounce croissant? Everyone Iv ever heard pronounce it. Friends, family, restaurants, Including multiple times in France and my step mum who lived in France for seven years and all her French friends pronounce it kwasson.

Andylion · 26/02/2017 23:36

I think we can agree that Castilian Spanish is the purest pronunciation.

Says who? Doesn't make other dialects incorrect.

PhilODox · 26/02/2017 23:36

Wait. Do people actually say kroy-sant non-ironically? Shock

JonesyAndTheSalad · 26/02/2017 23:37

It just sounds a bit wanky though OP. You should try visiting Australia where they say "Cross-Ont" for croissant.

I find that HARD. I have also heard "sachet" said with the T sounded...to rhyme with "match-it"

PageStillNotFound404 · 26/02/2017 23:39

If you say kroy-sant, do you also say deb-riss?

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 26/02/2017 23:40

Littlewing, interesting, what's your take on the op saying "I think we can agree that Castilian Spanish is the purest pronounciation"

RustyPaperclip · 26/02/2017 23:41

I once attempted to pronounce chorizo in what I imagined was the correct Spanish pronunciation when I was on holiday in Seville. Oh the shame when he couldn't stop laughing Blush. He seemed to prefer my English attempt Confused

mygorgeousmilo · 26/02/2017 23:41

Umm you're wrong anyway OP. But yeah I say it chorit-so, even though I know the correct Spanish pronunciation, but can't stand to be that dick person.... so I just say "oh yeah, that octopus and choritso dish is amazing!" All the while, dying inside Wink

JonesyAndTheSalad · 26/02/2017 23:41

I also want to know the correct way to say croissant? I've always said kwasson....even though, now I live in Oz, everyone around me says crossont.

dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/croissant

It IS kwasson!

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 26/02/2017 23:43

Well it depends if you are talking southern or northern pronunciation.

BoydCrowdersTeeth · 26/02/2017 23:44

We all pronounce Ibiza correctly ?

PhilODox · 26/02/2017 23:44

yeah, and broo-sketta, people...

PenelopeFlintstone · 26/02/2017 23:47

PhilODox - that's just what I was about to say.

SemiNormal · 26/02/2017 23:47

It IS kwasson! - Ahh thank fuck for that, I was wondering in what way I'd been saying it wrong my whole life. I don't even know anyone from France but I've always said kwasson and can't imagine trying to say it any other way.

LittleWingSoul · 26/02/2017 23:48

GotTo I'd say that was akin to saying English as spoken in the home counties is the purest pronunciation. Just... A pretty daft thing to say!

Ch is a letter in the Spanish alphabet pronounced the exact same way as English ch, as in cheque, chocolate and chores. Never ever pronounced kh!

neveradullmoment99 · 26/02/2017 23:48

Well its lasagne and not fecking lasagna!!!! I feel the same way as you OP.

neveradullmoment99 · 26/02/2017 23:49
