Rick Santorum: ‘Millions of Americans’ with preexisting conditions are scammers stealing health care

They should come here as health tourists.....

Fascinating parallels.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 26/02/2017 18:52

Yeah, the more Trump shouts "look, over there!" the more strongly I feel the Russia links are the smoking gun. If he wasn't such a prize chump, he'd probably realise this himself. I was about to say it's a shame that he doesn't have some clued up advisors, but then realised they probably know exactly how bad this will be playing and their failure to halt him speaks volumes. Palace coup, anyone?

GingerIvy · 26/02/2017 18:53

cozie Definitely.

The UK deported that grandmother from Singapore this morning. She had £12 and no extra clothing. Has lived in the UK (mostly) for the last 30 years. Her husband didn't know until after she was already enroute.

Her immigration status was tricky. She'd lived outside of the UK for a few years, which screwed up her leave to remain. When she came back, she hadn't gotten ILR, so when she recently used up her last visitor's visa (6 months, I think they are?), she was sent to Singapore where she was originally from. She couldn't get her ILR as she was carer for her husband (?) so neither of them earned the magic £18600 that the Home Office requires people to earn to live here. It's just such a mess.

GingerIvy · 26/02/2017 18:55

Mort I think they are already lining up Pence. The question is what will Pence do with Bannon? Does Bannon have enough on Pence to keep him around? Pence was apparently horrified by Breitbart stuff, but stuck around anyway. I don't see him keeping Bannon on if he doesn't have to.

cozietoesie · 26/02/2017 18:56

To go for him on Russia at this stage (I mean any formal process) might well put the GOP in a position it could never recover from, illegitimate. I believe they'll hit him with something...........personal.

Now this feels like it could be big: Robert mercer, financier of war on media, Guardian article.

cozietoesie · 26/02/2017 18:59

It's a disturbing article right enough, Cussing. If only the top people were as predictable and controllable, eh?

Among interesting snippets from that investigative piece is how the former IBM employee made his billions (from algorithms on the strict market) and how algorithms are changing public opinions:

"Sam Woolley of the Oxford InternetInstitute’s computational propaganda institute tells me that one third of all traffic on Twitter before the EU referendum was automated “bots” – accounts that are programmed to look like people, to act like people, and to change the conversation, to make topics trend. And they were all for Leave."

... “Look at this,” he says and shows me how, before the US election, hundreds upon hundreds of websites were set up to blast out just a few links, articles that were all pro-Trump. “This is being done by people who understand information structure, who are bulk buying domain names and then using automation to blast out a certain message. To make Trump look like he’s a consensus.”

cozietoesie · 26/02/2017 19:07

Get over this .....hump in the road then, Cussing, and it might be a case of 'forewarned is forearmed'?

GingerIvy · 26/02/2017 19:18

cozie they've been dancing around it awhile, it's good to hear it being said. I think a lot of the GOP in Congress are thinking ahead to 2018 and what repealing ACA will mean to their votes.

cozietoesie · 26/02/2017 19:22

If they're thinking ahead to 2018 - and that's all of the seats in the House of Representatives if I recall - then they'll likely be battening down the hatches well in advance of that date?

Remember the raid on Yemen

www.washingtonpost.com/national/father-of-dead-navy-seal-refused-to-meet-trump-at-ceremony/2017/02/26/567f39ca-fc37-11e6-9b78-824ccab94435_story.html

The elder Owens told the Herald he refused to meet with the president because the family had requested a private ceremony.

“I’m sorry, I don’t want to see him,” Owens recalled telling the chaplain who informed him that Trump was on his way from Washington. “I told them I don’t want to meet the president.”

He said he was also troubled by the attack Trump leveled at Khizr and Ghazala Kahn, an American Muslim family whose Army officer son died in Iraq in 2004. The couple had criticized him at the Democratic National Convention last summer. He also questioned why the president approved the raid a week after taking office.

“I told them I didn’t want to make a scene about it, but my conscience wouldn’t let me talk to him,” Owens told the Herald. “Why at this time did there have to be this stupid mission when it wasn’t even barely a week into his administration? Why? For two years prior, there were no boots on the ground in Yemen — everything was missiles and drones — because there was not a target worth one American life. Now, all of a sudden we had to make this grand display?”

CaveMum · 26/02/2017 19:31

That Rick Santorum is a real piece of work, he's the one who claimed that, and I quote, "sometimes pregnancy is God's way of comforting rape victims." Angry

He's an odious little shell of a man.
