Good for business does not always mean good for workers
Good point, Bigly. I'm more and more reminded of the 'Gilded Age' here in the US, when the Robber Barons 'ruled'. Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Astor, Rockefeller, Mellon et al. It was an age of unregulated commerce and the rape of natural resources. There was great prosperity, but also great poverty. Working conditions were horrible. And there was a 'paternalistic' feeling from the rich of "Now, now, little people, we know what's best. You need to be satisfied with the crumbs from our table!".
I think this pretty much sums up then (and now);
"What is the chief end of man?to get rich. In what way?dishonestly if we can; honestly if we must." -- Mark Twain-1871
