Oh I'm not offended by people talking about Dubya.

But... I wonder if we're so transfixed by the cartoonish awfulness of 45, that we're losing sight of how dangerous "normal" people, with a modicum of competence and without the red flag of florid behaviour, can also be hugely dangerous.

I completely agree that 45 is personally malevolent. But he's also a puppet, a front man put there by more competent malevolent people to bedazzle the crowds.

I'm won't to be relaxing if he's removed from office - or at any rate from power - leaving the US with Vice-President Pence or Crypto-President Bannon. It'll just be the start of a differently dangerous phase.

PausingFlatly · 28/02/2017 08:35

Too many dangerouses. Freudian slip?

BiglyBadgers · 28/02/2017 08:57

you can fool some of the people some of the time, and who cares if you can't fool all of the people all of the time? You can still make lots of money out of some of the people.

We should get this embroidered onto a sampler and send it to him to put on the Oval office wall behind his desk Grin

Like this one, sewn by a British POW as a "present" for the Germans?

Speaking of WWII, exchange in Twitter:

  • some people in Germany love Trump. I wish we had him here.
  • You've already had him.

So, he's being interviewed by Fox and Friends at 6:00 am apparently.
That was posted 6 hours ago.
What time is it in DC?

Argh - lost me post and on my way to work so will just summarise:

DumdeDum - excellent point

Pausing - Scrotus (so called ruler of the US, I think) makes everyone look good even bloody Pence. Don't forget though that Paul Ryan is after him and the budget announcement may just tip him over the edge into open dissention. He's not great either but....

Someone on Twitter said the extra expenditure for the military was the same as the department of education. Hmm

It's actually less. But I wonder which funding Trump will cut: www2.ed.gov/about/overview/budget/budget17/budget-factsheet.pdf

Someone said this a few threads ago, but every time I hear Fox and Friends, I think it is a children's show with really brightly coloured animations and a jolly theme tune. The sort that you stick your toddler gratefully in front of to have a little break.

CaveMum · 28/02/2017 10:06

I've been rereading yesterday's briefing. A reporter pointed out that the budget means a 12% cut across departments, but cutting Foreign Aid will only amount to 1%. So where the frigging heck is the other 11% coming from.

I saw that Spicer acknowledged the attacks in recent days/weeks on the Jewish community but on bringing up the Kansas shooting brushed it under the carpet by saying "investigations were still evolving" Hmm.

lljkk · 28/02/2017 10:09

Nigel Farage is such a deliberately divisive person. (Speaking as one of the indecent extraordinary people who did not want Brexit). I will be livid if NF gets an honour.

Not sure this has been posted here, about how Alt-right funds social media to promote their agenda. www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/feb/26/robert-mercer-breitbart-war-on-media-steve-bannon-donald-trump-nigel-farage?CMP=sharebtntw

Meanwhile in the UK...

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/feb/28/government-departments-told-to-outline-cuts-of-up-to-6-per-cent

Core budgets for schools and the NHS will not come under review, the announcement said, and savings made by local government cuts will be used to ease pressures on social care. There was repeated criticism of the government throughout the winter for the crisis in social care which NHS and council chiefs have said is chronically underfunded.

The Nato target of spending 2% of GDP on defence and legal commitments to spend 0.7% of GDP on international aid will also continue to be met, the Treasury said.

Trump thinks Obama is behind the leaks & the protests

In the clip from that interview he calls him "President Obama" Shock

So Trump still doesn't get that he's the President.

AcrossthePond55 · 28/02/2017 12:46

"I just saw trump's assertion that Obama is behind the protests"

What the fucking what?!?!? Scrotus would be amusing if he wasn't president.

Actually, since Obama was a former community organizer, that might not be a bad idea! We all know he can get shit done.

But it'll never happen. I don't think you'll ever see a former president totally undermine his direct successor. Dubya's comments are about as pointed as you'll get but he's one-removed from office.

peaceout · 28/02/2017 12:51

paranoid delusions?

cozietoesie · 28/02/2017 12:52

Well you're pretty exercised, Across. Can you imagine how others feel? Wink

CaveMum · 28/02/2017 12:57

SuburbanRhonda everyone who holds the office of President is entitled to keep the title until they die. Though most people would obviously precede it with "Former".

SuburbanRhonda · 28/02/2017 13:03

cavemum

That's interesting. I don't think I've ever heard it used for a former president in the media before. The BBC, for example, calls him Barack Obama.

But then it goes well with Trump's bizarre tendency of always referring to himself as "Donald Trump".

FantasticButtocks · 28/02/2017 13:11

The person interviewing Dubya called him President Bush
