To be baffled by and disappointed with the amount of transphobia on MN?

I know I'll get flamed for voicing my opinion on this, but I don't care.

I just don't understand why there is so much hatred for trans people on here.

Yes, some trans activists are extremists and no I don't agree with them, but should all other trans people suffer because of them?

I get that there are issues that need to be addressed, as highlighted by recent items in the news and recent threads (which prison should trans people be sent to, can a MTW be a girl guide leader and various others). I don't have a solution for these, but I feel that as a society we should work together to make it work, rather than just spout hatred and insults.

It is especially disappointing as there are a lot of people in the trans community suffering mental health issues, often as the result of how they are being treated, and MN is usually a safe haven for people with MH issues.

I used to enjoy reading the Feminism chat (or most of it anyway), now almost every thread on there is transphobic Sad

Most of us here are women, a lot of us are from ethnic minorities, or have a disability, a lot of us have been discriminated against, we know what it feels like so why do it to others??

@FishInAWetSuitAndFlippers

Why is it than any other body dysmorphia is treated as a psychiatric issue but trans is a social one?

When you find out please tell me. I cannot get my child psychiatric help on the NHS anymore because I refused medication for my child.

25 year old women who want to be sterilised because they don't want kids are refused despite assessments saying their mental health is perfect, yet they are perfectly happy to effectively sterilise children with next to no assessments at all.

The whole situation if utterly fucked.

Trans activists have a lot to answer for.

Just wanted to highlight this post.

Fish I am so sorry that you are having to fight this battle. As well as being lesbophobic, homophobic and misogynist, the trans ideology increases the stigma of mental health issues: no-one can query the mental health of a transgender person without being accused of transphobia. This is what the transactivists want and we, as women and mothers, are being shut down by accusations of transphobia if we dare query it.

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 26/02/2017 12:39

stitchglitched no I don't think it's transphobic. I don't think discussing any of this is transphobic and this is not what I am posting about.

Fish, have you thought of (obviously it has its own negative points) setting up a go fund me type thing to get counselling for your DC, drawing attention to what is not available within the NHS, and what is?

coldcanary · 26/02/2017 12:42

So are you equally as angry about the mysoginism and threats doled out by trans activists then?

IPityThePontipines · 26/02/2017 12:44

PlayOnWurtz you might want to have a closer look at the American College of Pediatrics.

That they've been categorised by the Southern Poverty Law Centre as a hate group would be a good start: www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/04/06/the-religious-right-s-favorite-medical-association-is-a-hate-group.html

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 26/02/2017 12:44

coldcanary of course I am!

So what are you posting about then? What transphobia have you seen?

I don't think questioning these issues is transphobic btw, and a discussion definitely needs to be had, it's the tone of some posters that I find shocking

Tone policing is an effective way of derailing a discussion. You use whatever tone you like, and I will too. Its not all about you.

TheFirstMrsDV · 26/02/2017 12:46

There is no reason why it hurts anyone to use the word 'cis' except it's a sign of losing that one bit of privilege

Are you fucking kidding me?
What, as opposed to the MTF trans losing the WHOLE amount of privilege they have as a born and raised as a man? Them wanting to hold onto their right to tell women what they can call themselves, shove them backwards just a little bit more.

Yeah these over privileged women and their spoiled demands not to be sub women.

IN.SANE.

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2017 12:46

I have no issue with either cis gender or transgender, both are factual statements of different types of women in our society which should only be used if further identification is needed for whatever reason ie medical. Past that I see no reason to define, we are all women. I take no issue or offence at it at all.

I'm a woman, I'm a cis woman, just like I'm a brunette or whatever. It doesn't reduce me as a Person in any way it's simply a statement of fact.

venusinscorpio · 26/02/2017 12:48

You can see how angry people are OP. It's not generally the done thing to tone police in internet discussions where people feel they are being oppressed. Would you go onto a black activist forum and do it? Do you think that would be appropriate?

BeyondUnderthinking · 26/02/2017 12:48

Calling me cisgender is not a factual fucking statement. It is made up non-science.

Thingsgettingstranger · 26/02/2017 12:49

I haven't seen any transphobic posts and I lurk on the feminism board. I've even asked ds16 who is trans, and he says they aren't transphobic. What you class as transphobic appears to be discussions about a subject that is very mainstream lately, and that's exactly what is fueling TransActivists. There's nothing 'transphobic' about the discussions on the feminism boards.

Good for you. As you can see, many women disagree.

FishInAWetSuitAndFlippers · 26/02/2017 12:50

BeyondUnderthinking great idea, but unfortunatly we have to stay anonymous. I've taken on extra work and am managing to fund some myself at the moment. Finding a counsellor who is neutral and not encouraging was another battle and a half though.

There is nothing that I would want more than to highlight the woeful 'help' these kids get to try and help, I can't put my child at risk from any sort of public platform though.

I guess that's a way that I'm letting the activists win too, being too scared to speak out in a meaningful way means that their voice is louder still.

PencilsInSpace · 26/02/2017 12:50

Bluntness - I have no issue with either cis gender or transgender, both are factual statements of different types of women in our society ... we are all women

  • what definition of 'women' are you using here please?
venusinscorpio · 26/02/2017 12:51

You do realise your statement is an opinion, Bluntness? Or are you into "alternative facts"?

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2017 12:51

There is no need for a label, as we already have one. Women. What possible medical reason is there to define that further?

BeyondUnderthinking · 26/02/2017 12:52

I understand fish. It isn't letting anyone win, it's doing what is best for your child Flowers

venusinscorpio · 26/02/2017 12:52

Why should people have to respect opinions they consider stupid and damaging?

TheOnlyLivingBoyinNewCork · 26/02/2017 12:52

And this would be the abuse I referred to earlier. People who refuse to even be polite about another's opinion

We don't have to be polite when you label us with a word we don't like! We don't have to be polite when your opinion is offensive to us. We don't have tp be polite at all!

MercyMyJewels · 26/02/2017 12:53

Do you have an issue with calling black people "Cis-black" and accepting that you can self-identify as being black?

Mistressiggi · 26/02/2017 12:53

How strange that you are called "Bluntness" and yet expect others to pussyfoot around nonsensical statements.
There is a definition of woman, it isn't an opinion, it just is
