Middle DS is 7 today , party booked for 1130 , cake made etc etc. youngest DS (3) has developed chicken pox yesterday morning and obviously is in quarantine. So it is highly likely birthday boy is incubating it. AIBU to go ahead with his party in a soft play area knowing this is the case ? On one hand, children need to have it ideally , on the other by keeping schtum I am taking away the choice from the other childrens' families ....what if and are immunocompromised? Elderly? Pregnant ? Advice please - I don't want to disappoint DS but ...!Confused

You're a bit late as the party is now over!

I would go ahead, my house has just gone through chickenpox the time between my first ds getting spots and my youngest getting spots was 14 days. As someone has said before they are only contagious 48 hours before so it would be unlikely.

I would let everyone know who is attending so they can make their own decision as you don't know who may be pregnant, have a new born or weakened immune system.

Just some advice, my second ds was hospitalised as he had severe chickenpox and only 17 weeks old, they were concerned he could develop sepsis. He's fine now, just a scabby mess! Anyway the doctor advised us not to use calamine lotion as it only soothes short term and then itches like crazy. He advised making a bicarbonate of soda paste and dabbing it on and it worked ds fell asleep on his change mat after crying most of the day xx
