Parking, assaulted. AIBU to report to police?

Car parked in disabled spot. Only disabled bay on site. I politely pull up alongside and down my window. Person does same. I ask if they are disabled, they reply no, I ask if she would please move as I use a wheelchair and really need the spit.

I'm to,d I'm arrogant and she was refusing to move due to my attitude. So I park alongside. She'd parked, if you imagine an inverse T shape, she would be the I part. She had a car parker behind her but room behind. So I parked I. The T of the inverse T. I got my wheelchair out and displayed my disabled badge. Person 2 comes and asks me what the fuck I'm doing and to move my fucking car. Goes into my car and takes my disabled badge saying I wasn't disabled anymore and goes to their car. I start wheeling to the shop, comes up behind me, drags me back towards my car by the back of the seat. It tilts, back at my car, chair still tilted hits me in the back, tries to get in my car again, puts finger in my face saying I give disabled people a bad name.

I go into shop, came out to find badge on back of car wiper thingy and they'd gone. Should I go to the police? Was I bring unreasonable not to move my car to give them move room to exit the disabled spot (mind they exited the spot anyway)?

Then I stand corrected, purple However while I totally accept that CPS decisions must thoroughly frustrate police officers at times, surely the point in this particular case is that it wasn't even taken on board so that a decision could be made by the CPS; if I've understood correctly, the police officer simply took the decision that, in effect, there was no point in pursuing it any further

Lynnm63 · 26/02/2017 18:25

OP the 999 call will be recorded. That reply is disgraceful a crime of assault was in progress if your daughter is vulnerable or a child it's an aggravated assault. Make sure that is included in your complaint to the police.

Ele13 · 26/02/2017 19:47

It really can be worth pursuing: someone crashed into my car and drove off. My passenger (PC) got the make model and car reg. The police tried not to pursue it first time round but we complained til they did - the guy got a fine and points on their license.

Good luck. This is so awful. I am shocked and horrified by the whole thing. I hope you get somewhere. I've suffered mild ablism (invisible long term illness), but never anything like this. Keep pushing.

newnamenew · 26/02/2017 22:09

Am waiting for a call back from a sgt at local police force.

Also Baroness been in touch and asked me to forward to MP (done).

Police rang back and getting original PO to call me. Offender has been spoken to so hopefully tomorrow I'll find out what was said.

Cannot thank everyone enough for your support you've all been bloody amazing.

Yoksha · 26/02/2017 22:28

Absolutely bloody brilliant new... thanks for the update.

lionheart · 26/02/2017 22:31

Brilliant.

Masketti · 26/02/2017 22:40

I hope you are feeling more supported by the posters on this thread. Yes there are arseholes in the world but there is also us lot who you might come across too.

Bettyspants · 26/02/2017 22:47

So pleased to get an update! You were assaulted and it needs investigation, bloody impressed you've gone further with this op don't let the wanker get away with this, you can do it!

newnamenew · 26/02/2017 23:17

Simply put I couldn't have coped without the posters in this thread. It was great of Yoksha to get Baroness TGT involved, and my MP has since been emailed. The police are also getting the officer who came out to phone me with an update - it will be useful to know what the bastard said. Then I can escalate to complaint/get a sgt involved.

Well done. The thug who assaulted you will hopefully be charged, the police officer and his superiors will be shitting themselves when both an MP and a member of the House of Lords is on their case.
If nothing else comes if it your local police won't minimise an assault on another disabled person.

DartmoorDoughnut · 27/02/2017 09:10

Go get him, he can't just be 'spoken to' for assaulting you!

LizB62A · 27/02/2017 09:21

Would his fingerprints be on your blue badge?

newnamenew · 27/02/2017 09:32

Not sure about fingerprints, will raise the point with the officer tonight.

Just a small point to bear in mind ... I'm not sure how much they're obliged to pass on about what your attacker said to them?

Brilliant news about the Baroness and MP coming on board though; maybe it will make them think again before being quite so quick to brush a disabled person off in future

User200 · 27/02/2017 09:42

Yes I would report it

hmcAsWas · 27/02/2017 13:05

Good on you persevering with this - it just isn't good enough that this thug of a man gets away with just a bit of a talking to!

maamalady · 27/02/2017 13:06

Good news so far, I hope the phone call today is positive :)

sykadelic · 27/02/2017 14:10

Just wanted to add my name to the list of supporters OP. If this person can assault an adult in a wheelchair, I cannot imagine how he would treat a child or an elderly person. You can at least speak up and report, you are the voice for the voiceless

amusedbush · 27/02/2017 14:18

I'm glad to hear that you're escalating this, OP. Utterly disgusting way for a person to behave and I can't believe how the police are minimising it.

SoleBizzz · 27/02/2017 19:01

Fabulous news x Flowers I'm so sorry this happened to you. That cunt.

redexpat · 27/02/2017 19:38

Really pleased you are following this up.

Meffy · 01/03/2017 15:43

Any update OP?

flumpybear · 01/03/2017 15:50

Bump! I was thinking the same earlier ... hope you get some support OP from the authorities now

6demandingchildren · 01/03/2017 18:20

A girl in my town found out an ex has posted vile things about her online the police did nothing but give him a talking to, she took it further by going to the newspaper and MP and the police reviewed the case. The bloke for charged and is on the sex offenders list now.
I hope the scum who attacked you get what is coming to them.
