Parking, assaulted. AIBU to report to police?

Car parked in disabled spot. Only disabled bay on site. I politely pull up alongside and down my window. Person does same. I ask if they are disabled, they reply no, I ask if she would please move as I use a wheelchair and really need the spit.

I'm to,d I'm arrogant and she was refusing to move due to my attitude. So I park alongside. She'd parked, if you imagine an inverse T shape, she would be the I part. She had a car parker behind her but room behind. So I parked I. The T of the inverse T. I got my wheelchair out and displayed my disabled badge. Person 2 comes and asks me what the fuck I'm doing and to move my fucking car. Goes into my car and takes my disabled badge saying I wasn't disabled anymore and goes to their car. I start wheeling to the shop, comes up behind me, drags me back towards my car by the back of the seat. It tilts, back at my car, chair still tilted hits me in the back, tries to get in my car again, puts finger in my face saying I give disabled people a bad name.

I go into shop, came out to find badge on back of car wiper thingy and they'd gone. Should I go to the police? Was I bring unreasonable not to move my car to give them move room to exit the disabled spot (mind they exited the spot anyway)?

Oh I'm so sorry.that's awful that they're allowed to get away with it.
I hope you heal soon and please don't let this stop you from going out.Flowers

wishcarry · 24/02/2017 19:24

*that's awful not that'sul.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 24/02/2017 19:25

I'm so sorry that the police couldn't do more. It's disgusting.

FairfaxAikman · 24/02/2017 19:27

But there is a witness - your daughter!
I've seen loads of cases where it's one story versus another, and it comes down to credibility.
If they couldn't deal with one persons word against another then no rape case would ever make it to court.

newnamenew · 24/02/2017 19:42

His opinion was it was my word against his, and my daughters word against his partners.

Very good point Fairfax

CarelessWispas · 24/02/2017 19:46

I'm sad to read this OP.

However, the police are going round to speak with him because you stuck up for yourself. This is a good thing Flowers

FairfaxAikman · 24/02/2017 19:56

It's up to prosecutors whether there's a case, not the police.
Your daughters version of events and yours would corroborate each other's.

Scrumptiousbears · 24/02/2017 20:01

Thing is OPs daughter isn't independent.

Was there literally no one else about when this happened?

TheCakeCrusader · 24/02/2017 20:01

I'm very sorry to hear what you have gone through. I also agree with some of the posters above that your daughter is your witness. If the police were to interview both you and your daughter separately, surely your experiences would be consistent! It does sound like the police are not taking you as seriously as they should. Just because the CCTV didn't cover the area of the attack, it doesn't mean the asssault didn't happen! Maybe consider speaking to the police again about this?

Scrumptiousbears · 24/02/2017 20:03

Another question (sorry). Did your daughter video the incident or just photograph their license plate?

TrulyFubar · 24/02/2017 20:08

I do hope the Police logged this as a Hate Crime which it most definitely was. They are supposed to take Hate Crimes very seriously indeed. SUPPOSED to. As a Blue Badge holder myself I've experienced a lot of things that other posters have mentioned, not a vicious assault like OP though. I hope you still feel able to get out and about in the future and don't let the bastards win. Solidarity.

newnamenew · 24/02/2017 20:14

Scrumptious, is a very niche shop. I use "shop" as a catch-all. The type of "shop" is one where only very small numbers of people are present at any one time. The shop confirmed they hear shouting but by the time anyone was within eyesight the incident was over.

newnamenew · 24/02/2017 20:17

She suffers disabling panic attacks, to be honest she did great to get the license plate.

Nope not logged as a hate crime.

Lovewineandchocs · 24/02/2017 20:19

OP please reconsider. If you and your daughter give statements to the police, and there is a medical report on your injuries, it may well be enough, although it will be up to the CPS to decide if it goes to court. You'll at least have given it your best shot

RandomDent · 24/02/2017 20:19

Ffs the police officer who spoke to you sounds like a lazy so and so. I'd try again if you feel up to it.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/02/2017 20:20

I'm so sorry that what happened to you has been minimised.

I understand that it comes down to corroborative evidence but I hope at least that the "word" that the police have with this piece of work scares the pants off him

flippinada · 24/02/2017 20:28

Truly sorry to read this newname, I was hoping you'd get better support from the police. How rotten.

Lynnm63 · 24/02/2017 20:34

OP, insist they take it seriously. Ask for the duty sgt or inspector. Tell them you intend to write to the chief constable and your mp. It might be enough to get the police to arrest and charge even if cps drop it later the twat will be arrested, fingerprinted and put in a cell.

Littledrummergirl · 24/02/2017 20:36

Isn't this why they have commissioners? Ask them how you contact the independent police complaints commission, maybe they'll take you a bit more seriously if they know you are determined.

sotiredbutworthit · 24/02/2017 20:41

I'm sorry OP. But to be honest there is no evidence to back up what happened so the police have their hands tied really. They can't prosecute based on your word and the word of your daughter. I really hope these horrible people get the karma they deserve though. Hugs xxx

SoleBizzz · 24/02/2017 20:46

What has happened to our society? ??

Today some guy sneered and laughed at my DS.

I wonder if there is a charity who coukd advise you what action to take?

I'm angry

cowgirlsareforever · 24/02/2017 20:50

That's rubbish *sotired' A witness account is evidence.

cowgirlsareforever · 24/02/2017 20:51

The Police could gather enough evidence to pass on to the CPS who would then prosecute the case, but they simply can't be arsed.
